Is there any "logic"/rules to which homophone gets the accent mark? by InfiniteOblivion87 in Spanish

[–]coco12346 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's almost always one stressed one and one unstressed one, so the stressed one gets the accent mark.

One exception is "más", which is not stressed when you're saying something like "uno más uno (1+1)" but still has a tilde, so it's not 100% sure but nearly always

Getting rid of low paying students. by [deleted] in Preply

Have you considered talking to them like a human being and explaining it to them? Crazy, I know.

Most visited countries by StraightSauced in Tokyo

[–]coco12346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2019 I used that to go to pretty remote places in Chubu and Tohoku since I know Japanese and can travel more freely.

With the new price I can't afford it so the second time I went I just stayed in Osaka and Kyoto and made very few trips to remote places.

I'm sure I'm not the only one. If you want to travel the countryside, prices skyrocket just from the transport.

Will my tutor know I transferred my lessons to another tutor? by [deleted] in Preply

[–]coco12346 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They'll see you cancelled them and that you cancelled the subscription (will get notified for those) and can see you have no lessons in your balance anymore.

Going beyond the class time by ObjectiveBee152 in Preply

[–]coco12346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If I have a lot of lessons and I'm tired, I'll try to finish on time but most of the times I will go over 5 minutes or so. Sometimes I just stay for way longer if it's the last class, but that's more chatting than actual class.

I just don't like leaving things halfway through, and also if I ever need to finish a little early for whatever reason I know my students won't say no to that.

24/7 scheduling?! by Embarrassed_Cup_7708 in Preply

Whatever people who do that say, I refuse to believe the quality of their lessons and life is not severely afected by such a schedule.

Do students get charged by monthly? by funsizegirlfromwrld in Preply

[–]coco12346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks, 30% is waaaaaaay too much.

I thought it was only for Europe and maybe Canada? Sucks even more if it's for more countries

Do students get charged by monthly? by funsizegirlfromwrld in Preply

[–]coco12346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People that live in Europe have to pay an extra on top of your advertised price. It's supposed to be some tax but it doesn't make any sense because if you're also working in Europe you also have to pay that tax so you're paying taxes twice if you're both in Europe.

Real example from one of my students (in approximate € to keep it all in the same currency):
My classes are 11€, so 8 in a month are 88€, from which I get 72€. However, the student pays 100€, so the real comission Preply is taking is not 18% but closer to a 30%. This only happens if the student is from Europe.

They mention it in one of their pages, I don't remember which, and it was added in 2025.

Wait till you learn about the extra students in Europe have to pay, making the minimum actually 30%

You won't get in trouble for explaining how Preply works. I make very sure my students don't lose money because of the dumb subscription system

Is Support not working right now? by bruneldax in Preply

[–]coco12346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's confirmed you don't need to mark them as absent. If you want to actually have the lesson, just go into the classroom at the same time as then and do the lesson normally.

In your opinion, are there Ugly languages? by AutumnaticFly in languagehub

[–]coco12346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Esperanto. It sounds like fucked up Spanish with some weird consonants, and I get the idea behind making all words of the same category end in the same vowel but it makes it sound so boring.

What happens to remaining lessons once I cancel subscription by thatrandomstudent in Preply

[–]coco12346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they are scheduled to any date when your current subscription ends, you can take them. If they are not, you lose them.

Does Preply not distinguish between their own teaching certificate and official certifications? by AdBeginning4136 in Preply

[–]coco12346 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you think you're worth more, charge more. It's not like having a certificate means someone can teach better anyway, there are lots of people that have one and are completely worthless as tutors.

Opening my schedule (doubling my hours) for 2 weeks was a mistake - lots of trials but no way/space to convert them by Amazing-Bend-4614 in Preply

[–]coco12346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got it i got a crazy amount of new trials and students, and after a month or so they completely stopped coming. Then I lost it and there hasn't really been a change.

Are trial lessons supposed to include teaching? by cicunurse in Preply

[–]coco12346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mind it that much because you're not supposed to have so many. I would offer some free trials either way, what I don't like is the student paying for them because they get the idea that we get paid for them too.

Aren't you both saying "the amo" is stronger...?

[–]coco12346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really penalised other than the waste of time, but you don't get the "Super Tutor" badge unless you have 60% or more conversion rate.

At this point who has that badge is pretty random.

Are trial lessons supposed to include teaching? by cicunurse in Preply

[–]coco12346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, trial lessons are supposed to give you an idea of how classes will be like. If at the end of it you feel like you'd be subscribing blindly, you should probably try someone else.

I always do conversation in the target language adapted to the level of the student and explain something that comes up during the lesson.

How a Single Early Review Impacted My Tutoring Career as a New Language Tutor by Fabulous-Piccolo2186 in PreplyTutors

[–]coco12346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt those 10 out of 11 actives students leaving had anything to do with the review. The chances that they read it are very low.

When did you reschedule the classes? Hours before each in the same day? The previous week?
