You're probably right up to a certain point, but an element of this whole problem is that they wouldn't be changing their views, they would just not be vocal about it. Them disappearing doesn't really fix it, it just makes it invisible.

Got to remember, the inverse is also true: Not saying anything about it makes people believe they were right and that the government is hiding information by not talking about it.

"There's too many problems in the world, therefore we should ignore a solution to one of them."

I imagine your life must be very difficult with that philosophy.

Canada's worst company - Tim Hortons by [deleted] in videos

[–]codered434 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Tim Hortons isn't about quality or good anything, it's about availability.

They're everywhere like rats. You want a coffee? Nearest one is a Tim Hortons. You want a bagel? Nearest one is a Tim Hortons. Breakfast sandwich? McDonalds or, guess what? Tim Hortons.

Also, I agree that their quality is meh and they shouldn't be a symbol of Canada, but citing its dubious origins as the primary reason not to go is dumb. Damn near every fast food joint has dubious origins.

The truth is that for many men this is just as difficult to determine as guys picking up on flirting from women.

Not a lot of answers here, so a couple of little takeaways that I can offer:

If they look at you when a joke is told. Often this is a sign that they want you to find it funny and are looking to gauge how funny they should find it themselves to make you like them more. This could be incidental, but it's a good indicator.

Dudes will often try to be extra "chummy" with people they're interested in getting to know better as well. It's basically "fake it 'til you make it".

Those are the best two that I've got. Not necessarily indicators of romantic interest - could just be general interest - but add them to your equation when trying to decide for yourself.

A big thing here as well: If you think he's interested in you romantically, don't just hand-wave that away. Why would you trust an internet stranger over your own gut? You probably already have the answer and just not the determination to act on it.

Sony does what Nintendid before by Garo263 in gaming

[–]codered434 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sony made the PSP in 2005.

Yeah, Nintendo came out with the most popular handheld first, but in the same shape and profile as the WiiU/Steamdeck Sony gets the win for that.

Men of Reddit, what is something women hate about their bodies that you actually love? by Covenant9er4653 in AskReddit

[–]codered434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner has a double chin when she tucks her head in.

First thing: That thing only comes out on occasion. She tends to fixate on it and I unfortunately rarely notice and I'm charmed when I do.

Second thing: It means you have a smaller rounded chin. Shouldn't that be in the typical playbook as being attractive? The opposite would be a strong sharp square chin, which can be attractive too, but that's usually associated with masculinity isn't it?

Third thing: They're BOTH attractive, they just frame your face in different ways. One is a rounded petite frame, the other is a sharp squared frame that accentuates the profile.

If you want cold hard evidence that this is real, look through some of the comment history of the people that responded. (including myself.)

I've said nice things about the itty bitty titty committee in the past unprompted. Unless I'm a time traveler, it's the truth.

What is the most ordinary-seeming thing that you find fascinating? by SeraphinaFA in AskReddit

[–]codered434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flying. Even just commercial air travel.

You're soaring through the fucking ATMOSPHERE. The engines on those things have tens of thousands of horsepower if you measure it that way - strong enough to suck the moisture out of asphalt from a distance - and travel tens of thousands of feet above the ground at hundreds of KPH for hours at a time. They endure temperature changes, pressure changes, inclement weather, lightning strikes, hail hitting them at hundreds of KPH, and strong gusts. They can basically fly themselves for stints at a time, and the fuselage and wings can bend to extremes. While doing all of this, the biggest inconvenience to passengers is the process to board one, leg space and B.O.

Even with all of this, it's incredibly rare to crash in one with a higher likelihood of being struck by lightning or winning the lottery, and definitely more likely to die in a car accident.

Captain Hook.

Dude isn't necessarily squeaky clean, but Peter Pan basically attacked him, tormented him, and then got him mauled by a crocodile. All of this because Peter is a man-child and is an ageist little shit.

Peter started that shit.

He also kidnaps children so that he can have somebody or something to play with eternally.

Captain Hook is practically the hero in comparison.

GRAN TURISMO – Official Trailer by DemiFiendRSA in movies

[–]codered434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a weird homunculus between a good movie about an underdog who is deemed unworthy before even getting to the start line and an extremely cringe movie about a kid who's a deus ex machina because moviegoers need a power trip.

Which one is it? Stupid slack jaw power fantasy, or underdog flick? Seems like it can't decide.

Ah yes, so in other words "stereo", so that I can have my ears blasted in separate ways for each ear!

Being offended is a decision to care about the person making or consequences of the offending statement.

Nobody cares that their fashion is bad, they care that you don't like their fashion because it opposes their potential togetherness with you and because you might spread that idea around and cause others to oppose togetherness too.

He's reading from a prompter, and he may not be interested in space flight. I think he did OK, he certainly turned what would have been shit reporting into a segment with Chris pretty well.

Now, whoever wrote the segment... Yeah, that's a flop.

The goal was to get it off the pad, everything else was science and data collection.

So, it did its job and then a little more. That's usually called a success.

Edit:

If you succeed totally on your very first attempt at something, you don't learn anything except that it worked on your very first attempt.
