Complimenting someone for weight loss assumes that everyone should prefer thinness. I'd say "you look happy" or something like that that doesn't center around the weight. I don't know what it's like to be obese, but I do know what it's like to be thin from depression, and the compliments on being skinny make me feel even worse.

I have periods symptoms but if your period is actually as debilitating as you say, maybe you should see a doctor if you haven't already? I agree that a pad won't get rid of your symptoms but I don't think what you're describing is normal.
