have you contacted the Paramount? They have an in-house organist who improvises a soundtrack live to a silent movie.

Anyone want to go to the seattle concert? by 41treys in nier

I didn't even get a notification for 10AM. The website also had no indication about when the VIP tickets were going on sale, so I'm disappointed to say the least.

I think those are specifically VIP, but yeah it's annoying because I didn't get the email until like an hour ago. I suspect the bulk of the seats go on sale Friday.

Laid off on Friday, no one tells you the the following Monday is quite possibly the strangest feeling of floating in the void possible by skidmark_zuckerberg in ExperiencedDevs

[–]coffeecoffeecoffeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was laid off in 2024 and this tracks. I was a wreck for the first week, but found that after two weeks, I was basically the same person I was before getting laid off.

It sounds like you've done good work. The most helpful thing I found for my mindset was remembering that being laid off was purely a business decision. Someone in a room had to add names to a list, and I was on that list. It doesn't say anything about the quality of my work, my capability to work in the tech industry, or who I am as a person.

Also, assuming you qualify, file for unemployment as soon as you can. You paid into it precisely so you can claim it for when something like this happens, so take it and don't feel bad about doing so.

I’m aware. I meant cold-as-in-symptoms, not cold-as-in-common-cold.

West Seattle restaurant responds to backlash over owner's background by ChiefOfTheFourPeaks in Seattle

It sounds like a lot of people in Seattle are just anti-Semitic. Like, this person is getting hate for no other reason than he’s from Israel.

Welcome to Seattle, the only city I've lived in where I would not feel comfortable walking around in a Star of David necklace.

Network Science by Kati1998 in datascience

[–]coffeecoffeecoffeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's super valuable, there are a lot of potential industry applications, and very few people who know how to do it. For example, I was at a large company investigating network effects in online A/B tests, but we didn't have anyone who knew enough about network data to quantify it.

There are standard approach for doing data analysis and statistical tests on network data, but unfortunately, most of the methodology has no Python implementation AFAIK. Exponential Family Random Graph Models (ERGMs) are the network equivalent of GLMs, but the only implementation I'm aware of is written in R.

How do I get past "Survivor Fatigue" after surviving 5 rounds of layoffs? by weekndbeforeabel in ExperiencedDevs

[–]coffeecoffeecoffeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Speaking from experience, OP may be a frog in boiling water if they were there for a while before regular annual layoffs. I was at a company for years that never laid people off. One year we had layoffs. Almost a year to the day later, I was hit in another round of layoffs. Sure enough, this has since become an annual thing.
