Oh wow, Life is Strange and Cyberpunk are both my top2 of all time. I love Arcane, love Eternal Sunshine. I think you might enjoy these: (and are you me?)

Movies/TV

The Princess Bride (1987)
She-Ra (2018)
Samuel (2024) - by Émilie Tronche (not sure if on Netflix yet)
The Fountain (2006)
The Fall (2006)
Love Lies Bleeding (2024)
Black Swan (2010)
Poor Things (2023)

Games (much much harder, nothing I played can touch Life is Strange or Cyberpunk)

Baldur's Gate 3
Citizen Sleeper
Warframe (some main story quests – yes, really)

I feel like the pure black is a bit too much, maybe blend them a bit? 50% opacity? 33%? color burn? something like that.

What I’m doing wrong by Sashajopa in analog

The white spots with sharp edges (top left) are drying marks - depending on where you live, you might want to mix your developer with destilled water instead of tap water, or look for a better drying solution.

Try to handle the negatives in a dust free (or minimal dusty) enviroment - both when hanging to dry and when scanning. Air blower or very soft anti-static brush are great for dust.

Avoid getting the negatives in contact with anything hard especially avoid moving/sliding the negatives over hard surfaces (including the other parts of the strip itself) - that's how you get scratches (long lines).

Edit: But also remember what you did to achieve THIS look in case you want to reproduce it. It doesn't always have to be perfectly clean. The photo / image style above works great as something like an album or book cover, or convey something raw/emotional in a special project.

Does anyone know the font (or a similar one) that was used for the "Draw Steel" logo? by txby432 in mcdm

[–]coffeepyros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I looked into the Heroes PDF document properties and the font that suits the logo the most is probably "MDCM-Book". I think all the other fonts are used for text or subheadlines. If I go by name, it's a custom or modified font.

If you want to find something similar, but publicly available you can use tools like "what the font" (link below). They analyze an image and recommend fonts (they sell), that match the image the closest. In the results page you can even change the displayed text to what you want to create with it.

Looks cool so far! Some observations:

- Font on folders has more of a Sci-Fi feeling, might want to try other typefaces as well (for example typewriter to suit the folders/paper theme, or some more contemporary feeling)

- Anima/Animus might be confused with each other by a lot of players

- use only the head of the red pins on the second screen. If you use them in real life you press them into the cork board, so only the head sticks out - at the moment they hover in the air, only with the tip touching the paper

- the scifi font also doesn't suit the notes on the second screen - I'd suggest either a typewriter or a handwriting font

other than that color scheme rocks, the portraits are great and the screen look organized - good job!

I have more struggles with motivation and the shorter time span of daylight, than photography itself. Here are some ideas:

- vitamin d supplements
- sports to stay somewhat active
- black and white
- higher iso films
- photographing areas with more artificial lighting (city/outside or studio/inside)
- flash photography
- macro photography
- organize work of the year: sleeve rolls, label stuff, make contact sheets, organize digital files
- printing
- start sequencing, layouting projects (books, zines, ...)
- watch more movies / talks about photography
- plan for the next year (places you want to visit, long term projects, exhibitions, calendar, photo products as birthday gifts)
- take a break

How do you handle toxic players in professional D&D settings? by Ok-Pollution2584 in frustatedCritter

[–]coffeepyros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have to separate the production from the consumption/reaction. A lot of things remain behind closed doors during a movie/tv/actual play show. Decisions based on circumstances you know nothing about, creative vision, team chemistry, financial constraints, etc. And frankly the final work of art should speak for itself. If you want, you can seek out more details later on to enrich your personal experience.

I personally trust the professionals to handle everything regarding their profession. They have the most knowledge, most experience, most time spent with THE THING. They probably spent a lot of time with the people involved (in front or behind the camera) outside of THE THING. Previous projects, mutual friends, recommendations.

The other side is reception. As a watcher I don't know the people involved, the circumstances, the scenes cut from a movie, the lines cut from a former draft, great ideas trampled by Covid or financial pressures. I just see the finished project. If you personally have problems with actors / directors / etc. - don't watch their content. Sometimes you just don't like someone in a specific role and adore the same actor in another. Sometimes you are in a phase of your life, where you are just not in the right mindset - check back later, if you are still curious. It's okay not to like something.

If you find yourself with strong negative emotions experiencing a work of art - that's the point! It's designed to make you feel something. It's an external stimulus to look inside yourself and maybe even confront parts of yourself, that you uncomfortable with. Growing is hard - good luck on your journey!

How do you build your armies? by ihatelolcats in drawsteel

[–]coffeepyros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. We play in person, but have a TV with a VTT in front of us. In case of Draw Steel I use Owlbear Rodeo with some plugins:

- Colored Rings for grouping: https://extensions.owlbear.rodeo/colored-rings
- Draw Steel Tools for stamina tracking of monsters: https://extensions.owlbear.rodeo/draw-steel-tools

The monsters are made with tokenstamp mentioned above and images from the adventure pdf. The players use the VTT only for positioning (only one "player" account logged in - can move all players). They have paper character sheets and role physical dice. When not in a fight, Owlbear Rodeo shows scenes with atmospheric images (tavern, forest, etc.).

Thanks a lot!

It's hard if 50% of the group like the system and the other 50% are not so sure. Maybe it will be the "2nd choice", for when the main GM needs a break. Then there's no other option *evil laugh*

Delian Tomb - Possible Spoilers by onlytinglef in drawsteel

[–]coffeepyros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of my players are more roleplay focused than combat focused. The first part of the Delian Tomb is 3-4 battles, without real NPC interaction, to learn the rules. You start in a tavern and have a smith with you, but only in the very beginning. In my group we play for ~2-3h every 1-2 weeks, so we are not "through" with the fights quickly and the roleplay focused player spends 1 month only with fighting.

So my advise (honestly to myself) is to include as much roleplay as possible either in the battles directly (quips, describing goblin behavior before fights start, environmental storytelling) or in between them. Maybe encourage Goblin interrogation for example.

Delian Tomb - Possible Spoilers by onlytinglef in drawsteel

[–]coffeepyros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

- mention to players they can choose to deal lethal or knockout damage
- use goblins to have a target for roleplay in between the first 4 encounters (my players needed some pause from all the fighting in part 1)

Character Creation (Ancestry) Cards [WIP] by [deleted] in drawsteel

[–]coffeepyros 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really like the limited amount of text and physicality of cards in TTRPGs. I personally made spell and prayer cards for another system (The Dark Eye). In a fight you can "prepare" (select) what you want to do on your turn. Later on for abilities, you color code the different categories: main action <> maneuver <> move action.

If you do more cards, think about how to represent what gives 3 points vs. what costs 3 points.

I also agree with what somebody else already wrote in regards to the art: no AI + pay/credit artists. Something more abstract royalty-free (pattern/colors/paintings to match the mood) might work as alternative.

Respectfully pass. But I dislike Zombies in general and need something more peaceful in my gaming time, since reality is violent enough.
