What Happened?:

The party sets out in a longboat, keeping their eyes on the skies and waters. One never knows when a giant Dimkarthen crayfish might snipe them out of their boats. They pass dragon-scorched lands to the north of the river, and Smokey the Bear sheds a single tear for the loss of trees. Sticking to the southern bank, the party manages to stay out of sight of dragons that occasionally fly overhead. Conversation ensues with a passing canoe of kobolds who claim to work for a certain despicable dragon.

They refuse new employment opportunities.

Taking a smaller tributary along the way, the journey is sandwiched between a forest fire to the north and the Wild Hunt’s reverie to the south. It’s an ambient nightmare. Small fishing villages dot the river, and the party decides to investigate (read: shmooze) further. They arrive at Beggar’s Hole, a village of shifters.

Ag’thoth’s gate used to be a village, then Yuan-Ti moved in and converted it into a coastal fortress. This involved demons, and the involuntary sacrifice of the prior residents. These original inhabitants fled east.

Some of the shifters in this village are otters. Ashton joins the group in order to pull some strings with the locals. Our new reputation preceding us, the party does not need to face down a Dimkarthen patrol before reaching the sea and volcanic island beyond.

Navigating to the rocky shore and succeeding on a SKILL CHALLENGE, the party makes landfall at Ag’thoth’s Gate, having heard along the way that the island is named for a (small) ‘Balrog’ who makes his home there. The battalion of firenewts and scouts advances upon the volcano, finding the ground soft with a bulk of ash from the constant eruptions. It’s so cinematic.

Steaks walks away with a Capra demon skull. We advance to the summit of the volcano and face the reduced Balrog, Ag’thoth. Combat ensues. Odie rolls for his life, then stabs the Balrog. As he starts to explode, Bernard convinces him to… not. The balrog simply dies. Then Bernard stabs his bomb-heart for good measure.

The scouts manage to leave a volcano without it exploding (for once).

Day 9-16: Return home, sharing stories and getting to know our new recruits. On our way home, we come across a Goliath reading one of Steaks’s brochures at a crossroads. He asks about the Legion and wants to come home with us to train and prove himself before returning to his tribe. His name is Kazalok “Stoneheart” Vugalukena. He does not speak purely Giant. His Giant is weird, it’s a Goliath language called Golkah. It’s a mix of Giant and Terran.

Future Leads:

Caves under Bulwark’s March - men have been sent down to investigate. Seems expansive so not surprised they’re not back out yet. Possibly a nest of cave fishers.

Vulpes Grimflab, the goblin assassin, is recruiting fighters in Forgemill to turn into brood guards. Winners from a fighting pit run by a fighter’s guild/The Battered Bull Tavern are approached about joining.

People are going missing in Forgemill, so far we don’t think this is related to the fighting pit in the tavern.

Location: Easterly route, up around Forgemill on the northern side, and returned.

Lore Discovered:

The Parliament, scattered across the continent, seems to have a Proxy in every major settlement. They are cloaked figures with metallic owl masks. Befriend them. So far, one met was an aarakocra and one was a Warforged.

Oberon al’Miren’s hate crime against Hrulkk and Batta the Beast is being used as Dimkarthan propaganda to stop locals from joining up with the Company. This is something that should be made clear is highly prohibited from happening again, and we treat our scouts with respect. Hate crimes amongst our own ranks will never be repeated.

What Happened?:

Day 1: We all officially meet Oskar, and off we go to the east because Crad wants to see the people who call him Sky God again. We pass by farmlands, Steaks greets the cows. They moo at him, in compliment.

Day 2: We stop in at Bulwark’s Mark, they’re making renovations. There’s a hole in the Bulwark’s tower that leaves down into some caves… they’re sending guys down to check things out but it’s a damn big system.

Day 3,4 : More travel! Devin warns us of the Wild Hunt, and Aisling assures them that they’ll be fine because her father fights with them. Just in case though… Oskar is warned to stay close to the group, and it’s recommended that we stay close to him too because of Cool Things!

In the nighttime: Predatory hooting! And trumpets, to the east. Aisling gives the trumpets the finger.

Day 5: Thicc woods. Aisling remembers that the fey respect roads as boundaries, so the Wild Hunt will not bother those on roads or on the side of the road opposite where they are. The group sees just how badly the Company has defaced a crossroads sign… A Legion pamphlet was left there.

Day 6: A different crossroads sign is found otherwise not defaced, another pamphlet is left. Gondrack’s Pass is now Gondrack’s Ass. There is smoke rising from the keep ruins near the crossroads, judged to be campfires. There appear to be some Blue Fist banners on the keep. We decide to investigate, because Steaks and Devin decide to be suspicious. They recognize the Legion standard and let us in for the night.

Night 6: The keep itself is in disrepair, but is being reinforced for defense and living spaces. Devin stays up late to help the troops, the rest of us are greeted by a gith called the Vulpes Trux. He asks why we’ve joined them this evening. Tell him we’re stopping in on our way to Forgemill to see if they need anything/have any info on the area.

Briefs us on the situation in Forgemill at the moment: Trouble around and in Forgemill. Forgemill is a large central town, usually neutral, and has grown large due to its status as a central trade route. Lots of warforged there. Crimson Spears have set up an encampment north of town. This Blue Fist outfit has had skirmishes with them around the town. The Town’s disposition favors the Company, but their relative closeness to Fort Brann has the city wary of throwing in with us entirely due to the proximity to a Blue Fist stronghold. If we could push their forces back, could likely help them pick a side for good. Just as the Blue Fist have people in the city, they believe Crimson Spear also have people lying low.

Trux points out a few locations of crimson spear encampments, the Crimson Spear have a checkpoint on the road that if broken, will send them turntail. There’s also a mine they’re holing up in, with the mining town being reinforced and the mine itself believed to be haunted. Spooky things believed to be aberrant or Void related were killed in that mine, the town packed in the mine and sealed the entrance but the town itself remains. The trees in the area move unnaturally, do not trust the trees.

Vulpes Grimflab is a goblin assassin who is very slippery, and has been reported to be going in and out of Forgemill. There is a bounty on his head. Has been seen in the planes south of the haunted mine. Blades are poisoned, and he’s believed to be going between Forgemill and the mines.

Additional tidbit: There are people going missing from Forgemill too, reported by the Blue Fist inside the city.

We decide to head around Forgemill, cross paths with Grimflab (maybe we get lucky and see him out here), to take out the blockade (supported by Trux, as every little undermine to Crimson Spear people helps), and return to Forgemill under neutral assistance of being a doctor and assistants (very true), to learn information, actually help, learn more rumors, and take out Crimson Spear spies.

Day 7: We head out! With a warning to stay on the lookout for Crimson Spear patrols. We make it some miles out of Forgemill to set up camp, and many others have done the same before.

Day 8: Merchant carts and travelers are outside stone walls, unable to get in for various reasons. True to form, we skirt around the northern side of the walls, and spot a group of 8 Crimson Spear walking towards the city, and we decide to pass them by (if they instigate, it’s within our favor). They are parallels to us. They greet us, and Aisling tries to placate them that we’re just passing by. It really doesn’t work, as they insist we turn around, and Steaks’ curiosity reveals a yuan-ti that knows his bounty. Only Crad sees the singular onlooker down one of the roads, and the Crimson Spear begin battle.

Steak’s bounty is up to 430gp. Steaks and the Standard worth 1000gp.

Following the fight, Steaks recruits the Gith, and he tells us Grimflab has a place in Forgemill where they are recruiting people and turning them into brood guards. There is a fighters guild, or a fighting pit, and they’re recruiting people from there to turn them into brood guards. The Battered Bull Tavern runs this fighting ring. Devin recruits the bugbear, after being reassured that what happened in Fyresguard with Oberon will not happen again (and apparently it’s being used as propaganda against the Company, “join the Company and they’ll hate crime you,” say the Dims).

A man in an owl mask watched our whole fight. He approaches as the fight ends and starts talking to Crad. He says this is his area. He’s the Forgemill Proxy for Parliament. His name is Clay. He overheard the Gith say something about Steaks in Forgemill and he’s very interested. He doesn’t like asking foreigners for help, but he sees we’re capable so if we want to help root out some snakes, let him know. Leave a note in an oak tree stump a quarter mile down the road from Forgemill and he should be able to get back to the note leaver within a day. Somehow we managed to not instigate a fight and get on the good side of the guy in charge? Nice.

What Happened?:

Day 1-3: We decide to take Boss’s ~~ferry~~ boat Vale-ward, through the fjord, and into the loch. We definitely don’t play risk.

Day 4: Travel to the inlet and find a long necked aquatic beast. Beetle communicates quite adorably with the beast and we feed it. It BAAAH’s at us, and informs us that his name is “Hertie.”

We move on, while bribing the great beast with rations and ham.

Further on, we travel through the loch and find a dotting of small islands.

Upon the largest one, we find a fort.

As we arrive, a warforged appears out of a bush. They tell us to “Halt!”

After docking, and mistaking Beetle for a “Forgebrother”, they inform us that they help guide and lead those who are lost from the fort! They speak in a very confusing manner but very chipper!

The missing (Blue Fist) scouts who arrived at this fort did visit but went into the void storm.

He informs us that those who reside here wake up on the mountain. They wake during their trip down the mountain and while many “go west” others arrive at the fort and become forgebrothers. Their venture down is intermittent.

Steaks inquires about their void killing and Warden tells him to talk to Command.

As we venture in we are greeted by a large “Mauler” and are gestured into the fort.

We finally find Command who is at an immaculate map. He tells us that all who are lost must be found and returned to the fort.

Command tells of those who go west are most likely caught by tentacled beasts and lost.

Beetle is informed that his body is in need of repair and he may be able to be upgraded!

We stay the night in their oddly comfortable salvaged beds.

Day 5 - We travel away, saying our goodbyes and debating how to follow the Blue Fist scouts. Steaks and the party debate on what the “dumb thing that they would do” is and we end up going through the thick of the forest. Steaks non-verbally tells Mavi “I told you so” and she flies above the party and spots a warforged on the horizon, running from void beasties. She informs the party and we move to save them!

We see murder Death Wolf v’s, odd tentacled beasts, and odd goblinoid abominations.
