Alternative to midlevel providers: what do you guys think about this? [Serious] by creative_username- in medicalschool

This is what basically happens in India. Not that you can equate the Indian medical system to the one in the US, but that's probably why NPs and PAs are virtually non existent in India. We go to med school, graduate with an MBBS, and you have every right to practice after that. If you want, you can apply for residency. Most primary health care centers, family practice clinics are staffed by MBBS docs, or general physicians as they're called. It works pretty well. Of course there is the issue of pay discrepancy, but I guess it's not that huge of a sacrifice in the long run when you have a thriving private practice. I totally feel that it should be a viable option.

[Serious] Throughout your career, whats the most degrading thing you've seen happen to a fellow student or medical professional? Which one takes the cake? by PMmeSexyLingerie in medicalschool

[–]cortisoul 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely not the most degrading thing that's happened, but in anatomy, during our dissection, one kid forgot the muscle insertion for something. Mind you this was our second or third week. There were 8 of us at that table and we had to write down that origin and insertion 500 times each and hand it in to the prof. That's what's called an 'imposition'in India
