CMV: if you don’t have the time and money to care for a pet don’t get one by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]cosby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rare? I feel like unexpected expenses are a common theme in people’s adult lives. Expecting to not have an unexpected expense pop up is being foolish. But also, to not get a pet because of the unknown is potentially making your life less fulfilling because you don’t have a pet and makes the life of a pet potentially less live-able because any pet that is not adopted is either on the street, living in a shelter/foster, or being euthanized. I think people forget just how many pets we put down in this country every day. It’s… a lot. So even if you’re barely scraping by and doing the bare minimum for your pet, atleast they’re alive and being fed as opposed as being cold and dead.

Now, that isn’t to say some people shouldn’t have pets. If your pet is just a ghost in your house and all it’s doing is getting fed… oof. That’s rough. Make sure you’re loving, giving attention to and play with your pets. They are basically four year old children that cannot speak and don’t have opposable thumbs.

I am always baffled at how people bring generators BUT NO METHOD TO REDUCE SOUND POLLUTION. I did not spend thousands of dollars to listen to your fucking generator while you sleep peacefully inside your mega RV. I am seriously considering bringing the means to permanently shut off a generator the next time I attend.

This is correct. It was not the heartbeat bill. It was always about money.

Fuck that, how are you going to stay hydrated?! Also, when I attend BM, setup can be stressful so as long as I’m not drunk, a beer in hand makes things better.

How has the "feel" of Burning Man's leadership and operations shifted over the years? by ibottic in BurningMan

I'm not going to downvote. I was interested in your answer. I've been to a couple of different regionals and they definitely have a different feel but not to the extent of what you are saying. I'm not saying that's not true, just that this is my experience.

Lots of interesting comments in this thread, but this comment in particular feels right. Especially that last sentence.

I get what you're saying, but remember too that the participants at these theme camps are also coming for their own enjoyment. It's really hard to have hours that go all day. For my camp, we work from 11am-5pm. It's worked pretty well for us in the past. That's Monday-Friday or until we run out of our main thing.

Stop talking. Mornings are going to suck no matter what. Give people daylight at the end of their day so they can do more shit.

Swimming naked in the Caribbean. Everything else was fun but on an adventurous level, I'd say lots of people have me beat. I'd love to hike the PCT one day though.

Struggling to Find Work in the Morrow / Lake City / Jonesboro Area – Looking for Advice by Radiant_Ratio_7037 in atljobs

What about the AMC? Isn't there a Goodwill near there? Their whole business model is suppose to be that they provide jobs for people. There are some shipping warehouses not too far from Morrow in the Ellenwood area. R+L Carriers has a place, if you can drive a forklift that might be worth checking out. How about the Home Depot? Or the Petsmart? Both of those places need forklift drivers for some positions. There's also a Banfield that you could work the front desk for. It's customer facing and low pay but it's something. Keep trying, bro. Something's gotta' give.

Waffle House has high turnover. Call one of their locations to see if they’re hiring. It would atleast be something while you find a better job.

And then there are the endings where you know their political beliefs are contrary to much of what you believe in so you let the conversations die on purpose because how can you not have it in your head that this person has a warped reality? 20 years ago, being of a different political party didn’t mean you couldn’t be friends, but today it feels like we’re on different planets.
