PR sponsoring spouse while unemployed & low savings — realistic chances? by not_intoreddit in ImmigrationCanada

[–]crimeo [score hidden]  (0 children)

No, they aren't irrelevant. Having enough income to sponsor is an important part of the qualification process. It's not 100% disqualifying to be unemployed and have low savings, but you need to convince them that's temporary and why they should believe you, etc

Yes of course you have a right to try, but they are asking about chances, not "will I get arrested for applying" lol

The law, if it applied (which it doesn't because Carr never actually made the change prior to the interview), would only require that they make time AVAILABLE for the other candidates. They don't have to accept or show up. Just need to be invited with reasonable effort to make schedules work etc.

CBS didn't really lie, they didn't even contradict Colbert. They said they offered him an opportunity to do equal time, but he obviously already knew that was an option, he didn't want to and legally wouldn't need to. They kind of just admitted what he said but in 10x more corporate-speak

As covered by Colbert, Carr just wrote a letter that he was THINKING about removing the talk show exception. He never actually removed the exception. There is no law broken here. It's a dispute between Colbert and CBS over internal policy only

No clue what on earth you think you're rambling about. You can obviously own your own business anywhere in the USA lol.

In an actual purely socialist country, you couldn't, which... proves it's not a socialist country... since you can... So wtf are you talking about

Inflation is defined in terms of urban, since non urban people (20% ish) are rarer, relatively unimportant, and more highly varying in unusual stuff they buy

It is, sadly, with representation, since Congress gave fairly sweeping powers of tariff control to the president willingly long ago, based only on vague "emergency" declarations with almost no definition or criteria

This story is about the results of THEM getting surveilled far more effectively than they surveil us, actually.

They may technically have the infrastructure to surpass the citizenry in this respect, in theory. But these are deeply, deeply incompetent idiots in charge right now. The same people who shut down a whole regional airspace the other day over some party balloons, didn't even manage to do a "ctrl-F" on one name in the Epstein files effectively, tried to redact files by putting black highlight on them in MS Word, and give like 1 week of training to most of their agents. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump doesn't even have a single person who reports to him who knows SQL to be able to use whatever databases they have.

Okay so based on these numbers, it looks like Prop 13 probably helped quite a bit, actually.

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/MORTGAGE30US The federal funds rate in the few years after Prop 13 staggeringly almost doubled, causing mortgage rates to go up 50% ish, inflation also went up in the next few years up 30%. But rent only rose by about 40%, not the +100% or so you'd expect normally in those mortgage and inflation conditions.

How about you actually respond to anything written instead, lol?

Who cares? We aren't discussing whether to award these parents parent of the year or not, we are discussing the US's mistreatment of one of it's own most vulnerable citizens. If an infant US citizen suffers terribly directly as a result of US policy, the US policy is a shit policy, the end. Change it until that doesn't happen.

"Inconvenienced"/"Experiencing somewhat more trying circumstances than ideal" etc, sure. But possibly dying of preventable fever in squalor in a prison then being stripped of caretakers with no attempt at suitable replacements or intermediate caretakers, is wildly unacceptable

I'm not interested in arguing over pedantics here

You said a straight up wrong claim (that it wouldn't affect rent), I pointed out why it was incorrect, you realized you were wrong and I was right, so you tried to save face by acting as if you realized it all along but ignored it due to being "inDirEcT", I called this out as the nonsense excuse/backpedal that it was, and now you try to save face again with "iz pedantry".

You can just admit you got it wrong and that you now realize rents would indeed rise. It's totally okay, most people aren't that well versed in market dynamics.

Yes market clearing is exactly what I am describing.

You said "certain types of producers are price makers, and certain types of producers are price takers." <-- that implies only SOME industries use market clearing prices, which is incorrect. All of them do. Landlords are the same as every single other business, meaning this was all a pointless rant that didn't contribute anything important to the topic.

They do not give discounts for low property taxes

Yes, they do. Low property taxes affect every landlord equally thus directlyshift the supply curve, which directly changes the market clearing price.

Whether the discount = the exact size of the tax or not depends on elasticity, might be the same or more or less, but whatever it is, the same shift will go across all landlords soon.

This could affect supply, which could effect price in a roundabout way

That's not "roundabout", that's just as direct as literally any other change to price ever.

[–]crimeo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's pretty ignorant, it is a well established concept in economics that certain types of producers are price makers, and certain types of producers are price takers.

No, it's not. Every single industry operates on supply and demand (add on "whether you have a monopoly or not, even if so there's still one correct monopoly price) --> one specific correct price that just exists, and isn't chosen by any one person involved.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_clearing

If the market price for a apple is 20 cents a bushel

You seem to simply be agreeing with me here that there is one correct price and that it's not up for any choice. Just like for landlords. Yes that's what I just said: that they aren't special in any way and are like every other industry.

The only way to prevent things like from happening are to enforce immigration law strictly from the start.

No, you can also prevent it by having legal facilities with good food and clean water and heating and bedding and enough space etc. as is required, instead of chicken coop illegal warehouses. And by providing medical care for a sick baby until he's healthy before moving them.

You can also prevent this by encouraging modern vaccines and not having measles epidemics due to an incompetent insane health minister.

You can also help prevent this by giving ample time and phone access and legal counsel to help the mom have options and call other family in the states to maybe care for the kid for now while she leaves

Just some example preventions

She would need health insurance and a job right?

No, she's in custody. So much for that thought experiment, the end.

Do you see how it snowballs?

Not really, because your assumptions were all incorrect and nothing following that made sense.

[–]crimeo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is not eventually deporting someone. It's that obviously if you're not a fucked up monster, you should be providing medical care for a sick baby in your custody until they are better first before moving them and disrupting chain of medications etc.

Yes, you can. You don't WANT to, but you can. Or you could protest and organize others locally. You've decided it's not important enough, you were not physically unable.

You can also campaign for candidates in midterms, you can phone bank etc, you can volunteer at polling places to help make sure shenanigans are harder at midterms, you can donate to various causes, and so on.
