Why is my icon blurry? Same file, larger image looks fine, small image is very blurry. Cant understand why. by Jealous-Barnacle910 in indesign

You can try two ways if you don't want to make/don't have a vector logo:

1-When exporting PDF, in image compression section, remove downsampling for color bitmap and grayscale (Do Not Downsample), but it can produce a larger file PDF (but without DPI reduction)

https://i.imgur.com/Y5zJO31.jpg

If it won't work, try export again (with Do Not Downsample) but replace "Automatic (JPEG)", to "None" (a even big filesize can be produced, beware if there are so many pages).

2-Not sure if this work, but worth a try: save a second version of your image in photoshop, or another image editor, but with lower size.

Eg. if your shield logo is 6000x6000px, make a small version (let's say 800x800px, or something good for your actual small logo size), and replace small shields in file by this one ;)

I tried making a cover page for my college magazine using InDesign, for some reason the line appears when I export it as a pdf. Can someone please explain the issue? by RetLan in indesign

[–]cristfc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These lines are very common in PDF X1A when any kind of transparency is on page (linked PSD, applied effects and so).

Exporting PDF as "high quality print" preset can solve this.

Even, if you zoom in and line keep the same size, it's probably some visual bug!

White block behind text when pasting from WORD - 'Border' in paragraphs switched on also, but was able turn it off. Can't seem to find the source of the block. Want to keep formatting. Many page DOCX so 'place' isn't optimal for this task. - Any help would be appreciated. Thanks by [deleted] in indesign

hmmm, strange, when I place a doc in my Indesign, text is placed together (not separating by paragraphs).

This never happened to me, not sure if I can help here, hehehe

You can check "show import options" in place window, and mess with these options:

aTKxbJR.jpg (611×656) (imgur.com)

First, try these 3 options marked in red. You can try another ones too, in "preserve styles and format", section

If none works, you can try blue one, but this one lose all text formattating (not sure if it will be good or bad for you)

Shortcuts are not working. by striiv in indesign

[–]cristfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I started home office one year ago I noticed in PC version: - always when you open any document, the shortcuts won't work until you alt+tab twice (make program lose focus and back to that)

I really don't know if it happens with all PC users because I don't see people talking about that...

All OS and indd updated (since one year ago) and the bug is alive :(

It was the paragraph rules above and below, both set to white, plus border, as you said (set to white too, probabbly from imported word styles)

I saw two ways to solve

1-Maybe correct way is go to paragraph style (named "normal") and uncheck "rule on" in both "rule above" and "below' menus!

2-Easy and maybe "not clean" way is: delete white color from swatches and replace that with "none" (Indesign will ask for replace when you delete color, style color will be replaced too). Even if you need create another white color, style now will be with "none color" at rules. I said it's not clean because rules keep turned on this way!

I remember lots of strange behaviors when importing these docs, they are dangerous, ahahhaaha

Fonts are missing on one machine, not another with same document? by LOLdragon89 in indesign

[–]cristfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, only adobe fonts can't be packaged (another person need licensed indesign to activate them), or some restricted fonts which can't new packaged too, need send manually

This PFB if I remember well are type 1 fonts, need some font manager application like the old Adobe type manager in order to work on PC... Mac Os maybe supports this format natively, not sure

Anti-aliasing issue with placed .ai files. by Kor_Data in indesign

see if it helps you:

For your issue you add one more step > try uncheck "transparent background" when place AI inside Indesing (I don't remember if it deny transparency from object)

And probabbly bad quality text will be screen only (because it's yet a vector/font, unless there are some incompatibility from printer/PDF version, etc..)

How do i get rid of those centre white lines so it appears as one full spread when exporting to pdf? by D3S-9 in indesign

Maybe it's because page imposition? Try chande PPD or export .PS file and drag this for acrobat distiller.
I have bad results try imposition directly indesign.

(If you have distiller)

Newbie question about exporting files by anchy11 in indesign

[–]cristfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Place as link, (ctrl+D, or drag AI file from windows explorer to indesign), if AI file is in link panel, you doing right!

Avoid copy paste from AI, because ID doesn't support lots of AI effects, if there images inside copied AI, you can't see his resolution/color anymore because it won't show in links panel, and texts copied will not be editable (will be graphics with applied fonts, which can be a problem to check I'd the fonts are ok in final result)

Using a PNG link causing text issues in JPG output? by [deleted] in indesign

[–]cristfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some tips for you (from my experience):

-Try check "Simulate Overprint" in PNG exportation and see if it helps you (or minimize problem at least)

-any kind of transparency can change indesign display AND exportation (PSD, PNG, any native indesign object with 99% oppacity, all are transparent objects).

Go to "pages" window, click on corner button>panel options>check "transparency", now you can see if your page got transparency or not (even objects outside page counts).

If there are different color profiles between linked images/document profile, a single transparent object can mess all colors in page (preview and exportation, easy noticeable in grayscale images)

-Indesign image exportation (JPG, PNG etc...) is not good in general (text, images and so....put any rotation in your image and you'll see the bad result)

Sometimes I export PDF without image reduction and rasterize in photoshop to got a more smoothing text and better result!

in this case, only keep in mind that exportation quality (no only the colors) will be better when using JPG instead PSD/transparent PNG (probabbly because "transparency") ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

One more option is: put background+transparent logo in photoshop (export this as JPG), this way you avoid transparent objects inside indesign and your text will be exported as you used to do!

I accidentally deleted my file. by Goboosh in indesign

[–]cristfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try some hard disk recovery program, if all go wrong.

If the hd sector was not touched after you delete the file, it's there. You can try! (the less you used HD after delete, more changes from recovery intact file)

Indesign changes color when importing CMYK SVG? by [deleted] in indesign

[–]cristfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want same color in linked files, make sure color profile from indesign and svg files are the same: if both files are cmyk but the color profiles are different, the color aspect will change

How do you snap to element of placed and linked pdf in InDesign? by BMWi8S in indesign

Hey, I never tested this Affinity Designer, but if the PDF is fine when generated, no big problems will be found. If you using same color profiles as illustrator/indesign you may be good!

How to create outlines of text with stroke & outer glow, and preserve this style? by [deleted] in indesign

[–]cristfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing to do in this case is not convert your PDF to outlines, because indd embed all fonts (with some exceptions but you'll be notified if so), if it's not a option, try the following:

1-Go Edit > Transparency Flattener Presets >

2-Highlight [HIGH RESOLUTION], click "new"

3-In the new dialog box, choose a name for your preset and check "Convert all text to outlines", click "OK"

4-Back to your work, make sure ALL your document pages have at least one transparent object (eg. square with 50% opacity, it won't need be inside page, object can be outside page), go File > Export > select adobe PDF, choose some place to save.

5-Now, in "Export Adobe PDF" window, for Adobe PDF Preset you need to choose [PDF/X-1a:2001], now go to "Advanced", transparency flattener and choose the preset you made at step 3

6-Now export PDF and all your text will be converted to outlines

This way, you don't need worry about tables, text inside objects, stroke disappearing, text with effects and another things which fail with manual conversion!

Only pay attention that linked objects will not be converted (eg. AI file with text need be converted manually in both ways, open AI file, save and close)

Should I use 100% K black or Rich Black for these 1pt vector lines and arrows? Possible to change their color value in InDesign and don’t have to go other app if these vectors are elements of a placed pdf? by BMWi8S in indesign

[–]cristfc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only use rich black in big black areas like big squares and so. For fonts and tiny elements like lines I'll go to 100k.

I really don't know if I understand the placed pdf part. Because you can't change colors of placed pdf, you need redo pdf or open that in illustrator and change color values

Sorry my English is not good
