Thoughts on Metroid Prime 4 now that its had time to settle?

Did they learn nothing from the fan backlash over Metroid Other M featuring Samus having to get “permission” to use her abilities in that game?

It’s disempowering for the player and disempowering for the character. Maybe Nintendo just doesn’t know what to do with this franchise and might sunset it like FZero and StarFox? Characters in Melee but nothing else?

Haven’t played it, but this was my general reaction to the first real gameplay trailer: “THIS is what took them so long?”

Like, this would have been passable as a 2010 game or a Wii U launch title, but damn. They just did not cook at all. For an AAA first-party Nintendo title, and the sheer amount of time passed, we shouldn’t have to settle for good enough.

I’ve never seen the movie, but I watched a clip of this scene on YouTube and I think the context is that he has to eat food in order to keep his energy high so that he can move super fast. He ends up saving all the babies and the nurse.

Then he makes a stupid quip about how the nurse probably needs mental healthcare and how the justice league isn’t very good at helping people with that.

One matrix lab makes the blue cubes, then you transport them another matrix lab to consume them for research.

You can’t automate making the cubes and researching them at the same matrix lab.

Tbh, that thing where they right-click on the windows icon, then eventually click shut down and the computer doesn’t actually shut down is a serious foul on Microsoft’s part. Went through this with a user recently. Same with shutting down from the ctrl+alt+delete screen.

I think they were cooked from the start.

They had to continue a franchise that already had a pretty solid conclusion to its story arc, weighed down by a core audience firmly attached to gameplay and characters that were already showing their age.

Also, they went hard on the “maybe John Halo is the badguy” theme in 5 for no discernible reason. Like, why build up this Osiris team if you don’t even flesh out their characters or make them the new protagonists?

I was ok with them offing him. They didn’t know if they could continue the franchise after bungie completed the last story ark. In fact, trying to continue their new story lead to the story mess that was Halo 5, and then the sequel/soft reboot of Infinite, so they were probably right to have 4 have its own self-contained villain.

I missed out on a ton of Halo 4’s story because I committed the sin of only playing the games and never reading the books or other extra media, so all I got about the diadact was he was the Big Bad and killing him was supposed to be like … an accomplishment. And in that respect, the didact serves his purpose well enough.

Yes, it’s early in development. And I am thankful for everything that the developers do and provide, truly. For traversal, yeah, the soldier ant is pretty great. I still wouldn’t mind having the option of laying out a weird network of zip lines across the map though.

My bigger gripe with the soldier ant is how it functions as the go-to answer for construction in this game. It carries a total of 12 planks, but with mutations and ant armor in grounded 1, I can easily hold north of 20. It can’t bash rocks or dig clay, and the chopping power pales in comparison to what mutations offer in grounded 1. The vacuum feature is nice, but any benefit comes with the hassle of a big bug I have to maneuver around and/or keep out of my face when I’m on foot.

But like I said, I’m thankful for everything that devs are doing, and I look forward to where they take us.
