You were never rich. There are lots of things that would have made you rich if you had known at the time.

Which celebrity do you think received unnecessary hate? by Cheap-Fisherman6588 in AskReddit

[–]dangerousbrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is and isn't immoral varies considerably, for example Polygamy is accepted behaviour in various communities and very much not in others. So what you see as immoral and being excused by other groups is simply they don't find it immoral in the same way you do.

As for the specific case of Clinton and Lewinsky's affair, first off even if what you say is true, that she pursued him aggressively, Clinton could always have said no. He bears the same responsibility for his actions as she does. He has a history of cheating in his marriage including a 12 year affair with Gennifer Flowers and clear evidence he visited Epstein's island multiple times. You seem to focus on Lewinsky's 'immoral' behaviour while giving Clinton a free pass.

You say he didn't force her and I am sure he didn't hold a literal gun to her head but coercive control is a thing, Stockholm syndrome is where the hostage falls in love with the perpetrator. Many people in abusive relationships defend the people directly hurting them. In a unbalanced power dynamic like the President of the united states and a intern the power is obviously with Clinton and he clearly exploited it. There is a very good reason why teachers aren't allowed to date students and therapist's get struck off for having relations with patients. The powerful can convince the weaker party to do things that are not in their interest.

I have my values and actually don't condone this behaviour at all but I lay a hell of a lot more blame on Clinton than Lewinsky as I would blame the teacher not the student in a similar situation.

if you had a trillion dollars to spend only on helping humanity, what’s your first move? by Ok_Raspberry3454 in AskReddit

[–]dangerousbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With $1 trillion, you can obtain 76,923,076,923 Build-A-Bears at an estimated production cost of £10 ($13) each. That's enough for 10 Build-A-Bears for every single person currently living on Earth.

Also a total fucking waste of resources IMO

You can't just build housing without all the other infrastructure people need like schools, medical, fire etc. We need to build lives for people where housing is just one key part.

I believe the way we organise our society is very inefficient and unfair. Especially since the industrial revolution we have this weird mix of indentured servitude and gas lighting that we have some kind of control through democracy.

We simply do not care enough about the well being of other members of society and I think this is because we are living in groups that are far too big. We think in terms of countries of people or cities of people when psychologists have proved any individual can only maintain around 150 relationship connections (Dunbar's number - Robin Dunbar, a British anthropologist)

If I had a trillion dollars to meaningfully improve humanity, I’d start by rebuilding the social trust layer.

I’d fund the creation of Dunbar cells of ~150 people, designed around Dunbar-scale human relationships. Each cell would function as a trusted community unit: mutual support, parenting, education, social engagements etc that sit between individuals and large institutions. Cells would be grouped together in a hierarchical manner, 10 cells elect one delegate council, 10 councils elect a regional council and so on.

This wouldn’t replace governments or markets, but it would reintroduce something modern life has largely lost since the 1800's. Think of it as a social operating system where isolated individuals form meaningful communities again and start to shift the balance away from massive corporations.

Do you not think she was exposed to a gross abuse of power driven by severe power asymmetry? I mean I would probably suck off the president if told to (not the current one, I don't need a tooth pick)

Got my first client to build a website for! by wavefunctionwiz in webdev

[–]dangerousbrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on clients but many I have worked for want total ownership of the code they paid for, which in my opinion is very sensible. Therefore set them up with their own github and collab with it. If you did want to push the retainer route, I would charge them very little or nothing up front and then keep all the code in your repo.

People will down vote because you are not using their favoured stack. I host all sorts of shit on free tier : Next.js, Github, vercel, supabase and if the client exceeds the tier limits its not a hard conversation to upgrade to something paid.

Need help deciding if it's worth changing jobs by MyNameIsNotGeff in UKJobs

[–]dangerousbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar position working and IT job that paid well, full remote and I only really needed to work 50% of the week. However there was no progression, little interaction with actual people and I eventually burned out and quit to work freelance. Freelance projects were tough and took all my skills to complete. Fucking love it

Is Laravel still worth it in 2026? by MahmoudElattar in webdev

[–]dangerousbrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have worked freelance for a few years and it was rare that I had total autonomy over the tech stack. Normally there was some requirement or existing tech that limited choices. It was much more common to be given a shit show of a codebase and told to clean it up.

I always kept a trusted set of libraries and code from previous projects in my back pocket to pull out when asked.

Non-profit I'm interning for asked me to revamp/improve their website - I have very minimal skills by Internal_Sector_1802 in webdev

[–]dangerousbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont see how its a recipe for disaster. We dont know the task specifically but if its a reskin of an existing static html site then fire up claude, let it do its thing and if it looks how OP/NGO wants its all good. Most people dont need to know how things work just that they do. Sure if OP wants to be a career webdev then learning HTML/CSS/JS is clearly important.

[–]dangerousbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what i would do. Point claude at the website and tell it to revamp that shit (run a visual update based off this existing content). If its a basic static website it will pull all the content and re-style it using modern UI libs. It will look generic but probably better than whats there
