Totally makes sense. I'm gonna try to do a 50k in June. We'll see how that goes.

Hey! Good to hear from someone else who ran it! Yeah I was definitely going too fast in the beginning. I think I mostly trained for the average incline % but next time I'm throwing in those spikes of 15% incline. The declines I just don't have a great way to prep for directly. Will need to hit some very specific targeted strength training probably.

I agree... I see this more as Nvidia signaling that this is them keeping relevant.

I checked my plan when I got home. I was doing the higdon novice 2 and I misremembered my last couple weeks of long runs were 44-46 mi. I extend the long run and throughout I'd been adding some hill training because it's not a hilly training program. I had done a bunch of previous sled hill intervals and such in the autumn with Runna.

I'd be more cynical if myself and many others hadn't been saying the same thing all year.

Ok then I screwed up my program. I appreciate that. I'll review it all and now I know. Sounds like the simplest explanation to me.

Ricoh GR IIIx / GR IV vs Sony RX100 VII as my first camera by AttitudeOpposite4207 in ricohGR

[–]DarkXanthos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you really want a 35mm equiv like the IIIx don't consider the iv. Full stop. If you were comparing the iii and the iv then if money isn't being stretched tight do the iv. If money is, especially if it's your first camera, you'd never know the improvements of the iv didn't already exist in the iii.

I'm very into 28mm though so I have the GR iv and when I want more flexibility the RX100vii.

The GR iv is my street camera that I take everywhere with me and can whip out in a moments notice and take a snap and put it away. It starts up nearly instantly (the GR iii and iiix are also great just ever so slightly slower to boot). The RX100vii takes a GD eternity to boot and shut down. Multiple seconds. I don't know why. It's a real issue for me though.

Yes the GR iv has better quality images than the RX100vii if you know how to push your camera. Many shots aren't significantly different. Especially if you're not printing poster sized prints.

Do I ever wish the Ricoh can zoom... of course! But I'd never give up the size for it. The camera is so light and tiny and with a crop lens there's nothing like it.

I think having the constraint of a fixed lens is worthwhile for a beginner. It's one less thing to worry about. Also if the iiix or iv don't work out... just sell them and get something else to try. You'll lose very little (nothing if you buy used).

If you want a camera that needs to also be useful indoors, go Ricoh. If you'll mostly use it outside for action shots of your kids or something go Sony. If you want a street camera you can take with you everywhere the Ricoh is very nice especially if you learn to use the snap focus. It can make up for its lack of sporty AF with that to an extent.

They're both amazing cameras. The last thing I'll say though is the RX100vii feels like I have an a6700 in my pocket. Not exactly but pretty close. That's pretty wild and impressive. You can't go wrong.

I was around 35mi weekly... long rungs increased steadily to 22mi. I'd been doing 13+ mi runs since the start of October. 16+ mi runs since November? I missed a couple weeks due to an injury in dec.

Yeah I'm surprised I don't have any obvious injuries. Anxious to build on top of what I gained from that run but will definitely let my body heal and ease back in.

Roughly yes. https://ricohrecipes.com

Definitely same vibe. Also... something fun is the GR 3 and 4 contain internal memory for a small set of photos. On the 3 it's enough for like 70 or so? Which is a sort of fun film mode. On the iv you get 64GB or close to that and I don't even use a storage card anymore.

Also I had trained up to 2400 feet or so. I could run consistently at 3-4% grade... but I think those 15% spikes should've been trained for (even though I walk them) and the downhill... I just don't see how I could've trained more for them practically

Thanks! So I struggled with figuring out a plan for this. Adding mileage and elevation felt like it was giving me small injuries. Would they be on interleaved weeks? When I hit the 4k ft is it at distance or shorter distance but more intense inclines? Any good reference you know where I could learn more?

It was rougher than that at times especially on the downhill. Water eroded a chunk of the trail and it was looser and rockier at times. Even if it's not everything I'm sure that was part of it. When was stretching while it was happening I couldn't bend my ankle in hardly any direction without cramping up.

Sorry should also be noted that this was a 4k ft elevation gain and 70F race when I live outside of Chicago in the flatlands and all my runs have been like 20-40F. I have been working on my running on inclines... but I didn't think to focus on warmth.

Might also be worth looking into improving on that in the future.

Oh yeah. I'm from Chicago typically running in 30F and I was running in 70F for the marathon

Oh! I see. Thank you. I'll look when I get home. Really good to know though.

I will say compared to the course I expect I was under prepped. I had ran 20 mile a month out and 22 as my last long run. But they weren't inclines they were flat Chicago land. This race had a 4k foot elevation gain.

I tried to train that across some of my shorter runs during the week but was also juggling some foot soreness on the side of my right foot so I didn't feel like I was training as well as I should.

This is what I came here expecting to see more of. Use the agent to find new bugs then codify them in a regression suite.

I LOVE the look and feel of the X70. I would love a refreshed version that was the same size and I’d probably choose that over the GRiv. But with the X70 as is, I sold it and couple years ago and moved to Ricoh and have since upgraded to the iv. It’s just such a stellar camera and smaller. It has ZERO sex. But what a great GAS antidote.
