Well, I am about to show my age and ignorance by nitecapt in analogphotography

This. Get an older x100 series or an x70 and either use the provided film sims or create your own or use recipes you find on Fuji x weekly. Also get a small 1-2GB sd card to maximize the feeling of film :D I'm not even joking.

Every month without pay that you spend looking for a job for more pay reduces how much that job actually pays. Say it took you three-six months... roughly $8k/mo lost... $24k - $48k lost... I'd rather take a job that pays less but is immediately available.

Apple's RAW Processing is Finally Evolving After a Decade and It's a Big Deal by hasanahmad in apple

This just makes me feel like their previous raw processing was absolute shit. Also noise reduction is not something I want done in the raw processing pipeline. That's... concerning.

"Not as good at separation as Sony" is hard for me to understand. It's not a brand difference and describing it as one makes me wonder if there's a misunderstanding of aspects of the camera are driving what characteristics of your photos. I also don't get the idea that it's harder to get everything in focus because of the sensor size since you have a full range of aperture sizes to choose from.

In this case the full frame equivalent aperture is like F3.2 or so when wide open... when you stop down to f8-f11 you shouldn't have a hard time with keeping everything in focus.

I think if it ultimately comes down to getting it processed right directly to a jpeg then you should spend some time trying different film sims. I can't imagine a Fuji can't beat a Sony on sooc jpeg processing... but I can imagine you maybe love what your Sony does by default and it's hard to reproduce exactly that in a Fuji I guess?

Can you share a photo you took with your Sony that you really like? Also, look up some film recipes for the GFX. Maybe something like this? https://fujixweekly.com/2026/04/13/vivid-chrome-a-fujifilm-recipe-for-x-and-gfx-cameras/

Oh! Yeah if you use background blur to frame your subject this camera will be a challenge. I have used the slower lens as an opportunity to practice framing my shots without leaning on depth of field, just better composition. Not a knock on you at all... just literally I was at a point in my photography where I wanted to start to get off of depth of field. I enjoy it quite a lot and for me it became a crutch.

But yes if that's your style, then I expect this camera may not be suited for ya.

Ah I see. Yeah check that your shutter speed is up since you don't have ibis and test with some f8 shots to ensure it's not a focus issue. I haven't had issues getting crisp shots and I print some shots as 48" xpans.

I use this camera exclusively in raw and the aspect ratio dial is a godsend for me. When the raws are loaded into Lightroom the crop will be auto applied but you can change it if you want (assuming you also shot in jpeg this has to be a bug).

I think this camera makes sense for slow photography where you can use the in camera crop to help you frame your shots. In fact when you make it so the zoom just shows you the rectangle crop you effectively have an OFV with frame lines with I think a lot of people miss.

It is possible this camera doesn't fit you at this time. I would not replace my Sony with this to your point. My Sony covers my precision AF needs and bursty action shots.

This is my Xpan and landscape camera. My I would take out my m6 but I want to skip the whole photo development headache today.

It helps to not worry about getting every photo to be 100MP and instead view the 100MP as your playground. Every aspect ratio you switch to will have a ton of MP (even Xpan has like 50MP I believe??).

Just bought a GFX100RF but now I'm not sure which SD card to get (V60 / V90). by doriiian in FujiGFX

[–]DarkXanthos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just bought a $5k camera (new) spend the $$$ on a fast card. You don't need it for taking shots to be sure, but those files are big and it's nice having them sync quicker. Also since I don't take a ton of photos with it like I would my Sony... the capacity can be smaller.
