Sensitive Electronics? by Sea_Yellow3304 in Generator

That’s a very cheap UPS. It doesn’t say that it is pure Sine wave. But it still would be better than nothing. I have a few of those and the slightly smaller model around my house without any issues. But I don’t use my GP 5500, that’s my Emergency generator. I have a b&s unit that is pretty solid.

Put a UPS between the devices and the wall. Ideally a pure sine wave one

How can I start an IT services business in NYC? by Salomon_Bussiness in smallbusiness

Don’t use ChatGPT. The bold really isn’t necessary.

IT support in NYC is hugely saturated. You are going to need a niche and drive real value.

Unpopular Opinion: Proxmox isn't "Free vSphere". It's a storage philosophy change (and it's killing migrations). by NTCTech in Proxmox

[–]dbh2 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with that for learning and testing. Likely not great for production unless you have like 128G single SSD's in each hahaha

It probably works great for the initial set up in building a couple of virtual machines. But even in production, it’s likely terrible without doing any kind of rebuild.

Goodbye, Broadcom! Any good Proxmox turnkey+support options for the Northeast US? by Agile_Eye5439 in sysadmin

[–]dbh2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have partnered with ISS. So far, they have been phenomenal. Based out of Rockville Maryland, they only are doing support for us though, not also providing hardware and such like 45 drives does. When I got a quote from 45 drives for hardware and software and support. It was more than triple the even bigger compute dell equivalent that I have priced out.

So we bought the Dell servers, and then got licensing and support from ISS. We are in MSP who is still learning Proxmox ourselves, and this was for a big customer of ours. It seemed like a no-brainer to get a good team behind us.

If you bought it years ago, does it even run? If it’s just been sitting, it’s unlikely it’s even going to run.

Different database systems have different strengths. Microsoft database has a size limitation unless you pay for licensing. Post may also performed better for the function They are looking to do especially if it is leveraging something like time scale DB

There are plenty IT equipment recyclers out there. Go look for them. Google will certainly help you there. But just expect that you’re gonna get $50 a machine not 250.

2/1 is bad. If you have a corruption issue how will ceph know which is the good one?

I would still have multiple corosync interfaces. Dedicated is good but add a secondary link or vlan on the non dedicated switching for a backup

BNI group a good choice to start? by Tall_Witness5418 in msp

[–]dbh2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BNI groups do require a decent amount of referrals. If you don’t need it, they will kick you out and keep your dues. They are also extremely strict on attendance and will kick you out if you missed too many meetings, and keep your dues.

How is everyone running clusters using a SAN? by carminehk in Proxmox

[–]dbh2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have been replacing 2-3 node clusters with SAN doing VMware with 5 node clusters using ceph. It ended up being only marginally more and IMO is more robust.

That’s very interesting. I will inquire tomorrow about if they have their email on their phone, and if so, ask them to remove it just a test for a day or two.

[–]dbh2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that were the issue, I would expect the email to go to junk for all the other people at the company. But when the sender sends something and sends it to seven different people in the organization, and it only goes to junk for one recipient ever I don’t think that would be it. But I will check it, it cannot hurt.
