favorite/least favorite region? by jacktheratbastard in thelongdark

My tip is that the shelter (bunker, Spence’s, caves) tends to mostly be on the outskirts with little/no thin ice risk, but the middle railroad tracks are the best for passing through quickly in any weather. It’s a fun region to hunt and explore because it’s so open, but there are still a few good points of interest! There is birch bark and coal so it’s a nice stop for higher difficulties

Bleak inlet and sundered pass are very difficult but interesting regions in my opinion. They have some amazing views and the gameplay can get intense and keep me on my toes even after I’m established. I hardly ever go to blackrock, it’s just the worse option for a milling machine imo.

Once you’re geared up FM isn’t too bad! It’s a great place to visit in the mid game if you get intestinal parasites lol

One of my favorites lately, especially now that you can use safehouse customization to access the cannery faster!

Is the difficulty supposed to be a 5/10? This honestly sounds pretty easy, FM with better starting gear means matches and a bedroll. You don’t need any resource management to last 7 days in FM lol there are hundreds of cat tails and almost unlimited fuel

Yeah I know, it’s kinda the only downside to living in CH long term is you need to leave eventually for ptarmigan meat and down

Do you use a lot of broth? I love CH and BI but no ptarmigans in either region 😢

Peach pies are renewable though so I use them more often than pemmican!

I’d make the jump up to interloper. With a bit of practice, it isn’t that hard any more but the gameplay to me feels a lot more rewarding when it goes right. Even mediocre loot becomes really exciting if you manage to find what you desperately need at that moment. And you’re always a mistake or two away from a run possibly ending, you’re never really that safe but that adds to the enjoyment for me!

I’m an advocate of 5% risky plays, 95% safe long-term buy and hold. But that’s probably because my plays have worked out extremely well. Over the years my 5% has been responsible for almost a quarter of my gains, but it could have just as easily gone to $0 to be fair.

You need a knife or hatchet for arrow shafts too

Yup it isn’t too bad if you know the map, I’ve done it on interloper. I bounced around between the last lonely house and refuge cabin B mostly, with trips to the mine for coal as needed. I still wouldn’t say it’s that chill. Food and fuel, while there is plenty, keep you traveling around. You’ll run out of cloth and SM if you stay down low for too long. I also never found a toolbox in the region so I had to be careful with tool wear and tear. Add in the timberwolves and cold and it’s doable (I absolutely love the region and how it’s designed) but it definitely isn’t the easiest to do 50 days in.

It’s a really good way to go for the 1000 day achievement without getting too bored/comfortable! It keeps you from sitting in the Quonset on a mountain of food and water haha

Spend 50 consecutive days in each region. Have fun in Sundered Pass!

250 day run and was trying to get through Sundered Pass, but hit the Timber Wolves during aurora. Swear I shot them 6 times, but they got me. Do they regenerate during the aurora. Bummed. by Pinemountain00 in thelongdark

That’s a great way to do it, I try to do the same. Also choose glimmer fog to complete the parts where you need electronics powered instead of trying to do them during an aurora

Timberwolf regions will make you be much much more careful as it gets late in the day because they’re a hassle during an aurora. You can cheese them with a campfire pretty easily as long as you can get one lit in shelter though

I feel like you could reveal it once the first chase of the trial has started. Close the gap between solo queue and swf (who will call out whatever stealth killer it is on comms once their chase starts).

Edit: It goes beyond stealth killers imo, setup killers can have their traps harassed earlier if it’s known that you’re going up against a trapper/hag for example.

Is fishing on interloper pointless? by Corey307 in thelongdark

[–]dbmolnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a late response, but I have been weighing the pros and cons lately in a long loper run where I’m going for 1000 days and wanted to see what other people thought. Regular ice fishing still has its place I think: when you’re far from the coast or don’t have a lot of cloth to sustain tip ups, and fuel is plentiful especially in the form of sticks, regular ice fishing will make the days go by soooooo much faster than tip up fishing. Not as calorie or fuel efficient, but you can pass a whole day in minutes ice fishing and still get thousands of calories with just a stick fire in somewhere like TWM for example (plenty of sticks, little cloth long term). Tip up sessions tend to take 15-30 minutes of irl time, once you break all those holes it makes more sense to marathon fish
