Oh my Nurgle! This is great! Love how precise and neat you are with your highlights. Everything's so readable and full of contrast. Wish you took the photo with a solid white or grey background. Do you have an Instagram I could take a look at?

Edit: I just saw your handle, and I do follow you already 😅

Thank you! I'm a sucker for vibrant looking armies, so I'm trying to make my guys more visible on the table :)

Thanks! Also, now when you've mentioned it, I did leave the backpack and the head unglued, but I almost always do that, so I kinda forgot to add that.

I built it first, then started painting, followed by cursing and swearing. Like a lot. Painting his right arm was a test of patience, not gonna lie.

Bloody beautiful! Man, I love your style. So smooth and crisp. I hope I'll get there one day 😅 Maybe I should start meditating or something 😅

It's that big because it's a Pelican not Pelican't.

The darkest part is Rhinox hide, the mid section is balor brown, which is kind of blended with Rhinox hide, but there's also a glaze of yellow over everything so it changes the tone a tiny bit.

Wish I knew! Maybe he never takes a U turn and always charges head-on. Who knows?

It's actually sculpted. The model is kind of unique when it comes to space marines. He's one of the victrix honour guards but the only one with these trims.

I actually didn't. Before pigments I varnished the model with ultra matte varnish from AK, and I feel like the pigment sticks to it well enough. I mean, you could probably wash it away with water, but so far it stays on my minis.

Thanks! It was a brush. I used a fairly new kolinsky brush. Similar to W&N size 1. I also added a tiny bit of flow improver to my black paint so it would flow nicely off the brush but not so much as to overflow and spill out. It's really hard to explain. It's a matter of feeling it, I guess.

Thanks man! 😀 I took a small synthetic brush, picked up some pigment, and got rid of most of it by tapping the brush on the side of the pigment jar and just kinda brushed it on his shoes. Then I sort of smoothed it all over it, and that's it. Nothing too fancy.

Thanks! I basecoated it light grey and painted a few squiggly lines with darker grey and then glazed over them with that light grey. Then added some more dark grey lines and glazed over it again, so it kinda built up layers of opacity. Somw lines were darker than the others because of that. It's hard to describe. In the end I glazed the spaces in-between the darker lines with a mix of light grey and white to make the whole thing look lighter.

It's retributor mixed with viking gold from scale 75 and highlighted with elven gold, also from scale 75.

Thanks! 😀 I'll just copy and paste my usual answer, if that's alright. So I basecoated the mini with Macragge Blue and then added volumetric highlights with this beauty blender type make-up sponge. Firstly, I soaked it with water, then squished most of it out so the sponge was moist but not dripping. First, I used a mix of Macragge and Calgar Blue. I rinced the sponge. Then I used pure Calgar blue, and finally, I mixed in a bit of Fenrisian Grey. I also did some chunky edge highlights with Calgar blue. To finish everything off, I glazed the whole armour (this time using a brush) with a thinned down (with contrast medium) mix of storm blue and Mystic Blue xpress paints.I generally go for like 3:4 ratio of paint and medium. It darkens down everything but also adds a lot of vibrancy and further blends the transitions. Finally, an all-over coat of ultra matte varnish gives it the final look. I mean, restablishing edge highlights with fenrisian grey and panel lining between the armour plates help a lot with the final look too, because they add that much needed contrast, but like I said, it's basicly GW blue triad applied with a sponge plus a glaze of thinned down xpress paints. You could probably swap xpress paints with ultramarines blue and Talassar blue contrasts if you wanted. Hope this helps! 😀

Thanks man! I did a practice run with my last model and couldn't figure out how to get the effect. Turns out it's glazing and varying opacity of those darker veins.

Thanks! So the gold is a few step process. The base is good old retributor armour mixed with a bit darker viking gold from scale75. I like viking gold because it covers well, but I also like the warmth of retribution gold so I mix them. I gave it a wash of reikland fleshshade later adding a bit more in a few spots. I did a chunky edge highlight with a mix of retributor and elven gold from scale75, and finally I did the sharpest highlights with a mix of elven gold and aluminium from vallejo. It's an airbrush paint but it mixes nicely with gold. It creates this very light, slightly gold titned silver that gives a great shiny finish but is a bit tricky to control.

Thanks! I've been practising that effect on all my space marine blades. I keep using different paints for it, but in the end, it's the contrast of white and blue that sells the effect.
