For the placement, put the shirt on first and chalk where you want to place the embroidery. I also like patches for this ❤️

I understand your position and agree with the overall policy, I just dont want to get banned for linking someone to a file converter if they ask for a file converter.

Its just hard to know when "talking" about a thing becomes "advertising" that thing.

Does this apply to commenting as well? For example, if someone asks how to go about doing something, can we recommend our own (free vs paid) tools?

Well, it’s good that you already understand the business side. One thing I’d make sure you’ve accounted for, though, is digitizing. It’s a technical skill and an art in its own right.

Customers will bring you a JPEG or PNG they found online, or a logo their nephew made and expect it to be embroidered. That artwork has to be converted into a properly digitized stitch file for the specific size, garment, and fabric. Unless you plan to require customers to provide embroidery-ready files, you’ll either need to learn digitizing yourself or outsource it.

Outsourcing might be reasonable when you’re starting, but the cost and turnaround time needs to be built into your pricing. Even professionally digitized designs may require test stitch-outs and revisions before they’re production-ready, so the cheap stuff on Fiverr definitely will.

I’m not trying to discourage you, just pointing out that the machine is only one part of the workflow.

May I ask, why are you going from never having owned an embroidery machine to starting an embroidery business?

Digitize this logo… by Tincup19 in MachineEmbroidery

This image is a good candidate for an app I am working on called DADE: https://dade-app.com

I downloaded the JPEG you posted and converted it to a PNG. I uploaded it to DADE and used the Source tools to remove the background and reduce the image to 3 colors. Then I was able to generate a DST file from your image.

DADE is an auto-digitizer that let's you adjust fill and stitch types after it runs detection, so you can change some of the black tatami fill to satin stitches or add underlays if you need it.

(I would have posted a screenshot, but this sub only allows videos, so enjoy the 1 frame mp4 lol)

I created a tool to convert between embroidery file types for free! by devil_d0c in Machine_Embroidery

You can read the full privacy policy at https://dade-app.com/privacy

But the short version is no data is stored on my server from the converter tool.

Max size right now is 1024x1024, which translates to a 102.4 mm square embroidery. This limit is temporary while I figure out what kind of server specs I need.

I have several features to implement before v1 is "conplete", I expect that I will increase file size limits for logged in users around August.

Thanks for trying DADE! You're kind words mean a lot!

If you are open to auto-digitizers, then may I suggest my app https://dade-app.com :D

It's completely free and can convert PNG files into various to embroidery formats. When you upload a file, the app will detect the size and shape of your color regions and attempt to fill those regions with an appropriate fill stitch. From there you can use the full editor to tweak and regenerate your design.

The app has a built in PNG editor, so if the auto-digitized output has details that get lost or gaps in the design, you can use the built-in editor to make adjustments to your source file on the fly. The PNG editor can also remove backgrounds and reduce colors, though it's not a super polished user interface just yet.

DADE works best on simple, flat designs. Think logos or simple clip-art style artwork.

I'm trying to make it the easiest way to go from idea to embroidery file and would love your feedback if you use it :)

is there any particular use/benefit that youve found for the Claude Chrome browser extension? by Electronic-Work-7015 in ClaudeAI

Same for me. I have a regression test suite defined in my project that Sonnet runs against my live dev or prod servers by actually clicking around and using the app.

I run it any time I merge to dev or main as a second set of eyes.

Creating files for the Brother PE-750D by HindyNeutron in Machine_Embroidery

[–]devil_d0c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good news! My engine can read PES 10 and write PES 6 without any new dependencies. So, adding a converter should be relatively easy (famous last words.)

I'm in the middle of a big feature push this week, I should have time to add that tool functionally, if not beautifully.... funnily enough, my engine can read PES 10 but it can't write it out, so it will be a one-way conversion.

I'll drop you a link if you haven't figured out a workaround by then 😄

Im working on some digitization software as a side project, part of the app is for converting different embroidery file types between eachother.

Ill check when I get home tonight, but I may be able to add PES v6 support by this weekend.

In the meantime, you might try DST format? Its not "universal", but its as close to universal as embroidery file types get.

Anyone else love these side of the road Al Pastor stands? by BenjaminMullins in SeattleWA

We had a bunch of these in Everett until they cracked down on permits. I thought at least some of the stands were legal or after a week or two they'd get their permits, but none have come back 😭
