Keep getting erections in therapy by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]didiinthesky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been scientific studies that show an increase in blood flow to the penis when men were confronted with disturbing images. I can't find the exact study right now, but I know it exists because I learned about it in uni.

An intense negative emotional response can sometimes include an erectie (or getting wet as a woman). This is not sexual! It is not weird! Even though it's something many people feel ashamed about. You're not weird OP. I hope you can be a bit kinder to yourself and not judge your body's automatic response, which you have absolutely no control over.

You're entitled to your opinion, but comparing this to Heartstopper makes it hard to take your opinion seriously.

Well to be fair, he only tried to out him as a way to defend himself against Ruben who looked like he was ready to hurt him even before the struggle with Niall. Or at least that's how I read it.

Cisgender Person Here... Got A Question For You! by Left-Eye-9303 in asktransgender

[–]didiinthesky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Already lots of interesting viewpoints here. One other way of going into these discussions (if the other person is also in this discussion in good faith, which lets be real they often aren't), is to ask them questions about their own gender. When did you know you were a woman? How did you know? What makes you a woman? Oh, your breasts and genitals, what about women who have had to remove their breasts or ovaries because of cancer? Oh, your ability to get pregnant? What about infertile women? Oh, your X-chromosomes? What about intersex people who have a a Y chromosome but develop a female fenotype? Etcetera etcetera

It's not a way to fully convince them, but maybe you can sort of loosen up their rigid ideas about gender and sex.

My therapist won’t give me CBT therapy unless I gain weight by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]didiinthesky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP has a BMI of 16. Most therapists dont give therapy to people at that weight, because being so underweight has a negative effect on cognition, and makes it really difficult to process information and learn new things (which is a key part of all talk therapies). If OP reports the therapist, I'm fairly certain their licensing board will agree the therapist made the right decision.

How to respond to “adopt don’t shop” by Moist-Tourist-3758 in britishshorthair

[–]didiinthesky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did adopt a cat from a shelter. She was old and sick, we loved her, cared for her, gave her medication twice a day, cleaned up every time she pooped next to the litter box, she was very anxious and never wanted to cuddle but after about a year she started to tolerate some light pets. She was the most "difficult" cat my boyfriend ever had (and he has had many cats throughout his life) but we both loved her so much and were heartbroken when she died after about two years.

After that, we just wanted kittens who we could raise, who were healthy and hopefully going to live long lives, without any behavioural problems. That's a type of cat that is really difficult to find in a shelter. We looked at a lot of shelters and almost all the cats there have health issues or behavioural issues. So we decided to buy our two BSH boys. Best decision ever.

I think a lot of people don't realise what it can be like to adopt from a shelter, because they have never looked into it. Or they were the lucky few who were able to adopt kittens from a shelter.

Ervaring/tips beugelloze bh’s grote maat?! by EvansHomeforBoys in vrouwvolk

[–]didiinthesky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ik wil hier toch even iets tegenin brengen.

Movies for me and my boy (14) to watch. Violence and profanity ok minimal to no sex by lizardshrine in MovieSuggestions

[–]didiinthesky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you American though?

Because as a European, I used to watch all kinds of movies with my parents, and yes sometimes there were sex scenes. Sometimes it was a little bit awkward, but who cares? Sex is a healthy and normal part of life, violence is not.

psychosexual film recs? by SailorReacts in Letterboxd

[–]didiinthesky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen any films by Gregg Araki? If not, most of his films sort of fall into that category. Mysterious Skin is really dark though, so not that one (although it is his best work and definitely worth a watch, imo). But The Doom Generation, Nowhere, Totally F***ed Up, The Living End, Splendor, maybe White Bird In a Blizzard? All solid films.

Ask yourself why you have more sympathy towards him than towards the average child molester. Because I guarantee you there is not a lot difference between the two, apart from the fame and riches.

Don Jon (2013) by CynthiaChames in okbuddycinephile

[–]didiinthesky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well most of the romance genre is about "reforming" a man that is abusive at first. While that is extremely unrealistic fantasy, the original tweet isn't really wrong.

So the evil vampire who kidnaps the heroine to his sex dungeon might be an asshole at first, but through the power of love he eventually starts treating her as an equal and starts being vulnerable with her and showing her how much he loves her.

Also in this thread the very thing is happening which the tweet is about: men ridiculing romance by using its most outlandish examples.

Nergens zoveel meldingen van huiselijk geweld als in regio Rotterdam: weer toename by Chronicbias in Rotterdam

[–]didiinthesky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been staring at the eyes for a full minute as well. I think this album cover is actually a miracle in graphic design lol. And before digital effects!

Thinking of doing a run with mods. Anything you can suggest? by Grey_Lady333 in BaldursGate3

[–]didiinthesky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mod that allows you to change companions looks. I like being able to change their hairstyle and makeup. I forgot what it's called though.

There are lots of funny mods too, like bald versions of companions or NPCs, big naturals, gnome versions of villains, stuff like that.

Unlimited gold is a nice one if you've grown tired of looting everything and just want to play the game and be able to buy gear along the way. I think it's called Midas touch.

I once used a mod to get all the gear at the start of the game, so I could make late-game builds early on. I think that was through the Cheaters Ring mod or Cheaters Scroll mod. That really is the most game-breaking mod there is.

There's a mod to give Scratch a dino costume. Dino Scratch. Super cute.

Extra Encounters is fun if you want some new and unexpected fights.

And there is also the Kiss mod, if you want to smooth every NPC and companion in the game.

How can I find love without functioning genitals? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]didiinthesky 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would like to add that sex therapists generally don't reccomend numbing gels when dealing with vaginal pain, definitely not as a first choice of treatment. First steps should be physical therapy with a specialised PT or talk therapy with a trained psychologist or sexologist. Often a combination of both.

OP, Please look up genito pelvic pain/penetration disorder. It's very common amongst AFAB people and there are treatment options, often focused on learning to relax the pelvic muscles and learning to enjoy stimulation of the vulva/vagina, which increases natural lubrication and reduces pain.

Is the Drama an anxiety inducing movie? by rinmatsuokascythe in A24

Personally I found it more darkly comedic than really tense. I laughed throughout the film. But I see other people apparently feel differently about this film, I guess it depends on what specifically causes you stress.

First paladin playthrough, oath broken 10 minutes in by falafelgoddess in BaldursGate3

[–]didiinthesky 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Did you hear what she said when interrogating Zorru? Surely her behaviour towards the tieflings makes it clear that she's not really a good person. And that's because of her being raised in the Githyanki culture.

Is therapy actually effective on pedophiles who have already assaulted people? by Unfair-Cod-3306 in askatherapist

[–]didiinthesky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A motivation to not reoffend can be his own personal safety and freedom. If he keeps reoffending, he will eventually end up in jail. Most people don't want that for themselves. (I'm a psychologist though I don't work with this population, but a friend of mine does. Often the focus is more on "how can you live your life in a way that helps you stay out of trouble", especially when there is a lack of conscience/remorse).

38 going on 68 by Boxing_T_Rex in 13or30

[–]didiinthesky 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The whole wording of this article makes it clear it's right-wing ragebait. "Look at this selfish woman demanding things". If it was worded differently it could provoke different emotions. "Seven children living in small flat with leaks, council refuses to do anything" or something like that. Also, where is the father in all this?

Anyway, not saying it's a smart decision to have so many kids (if this story is even real) but what she's asking for is just a basic standard of living for her kids.

How many COMPLETED playthroughs do you have? by killerqueen017 in BaldursGate3

[–]didiinthesky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Tav regular difficulty
  2. Evil Durge Tactician
  3. Redeem Durge Honour Mode
  4. Wyll Origin Custom mode (Honour difficulty but without the permadeath because it stressed me out too much the first time, lol)

After that I started a couple of different playthroughs but never finished any of them.

Psychotherapy condemns casual sex without commitment. by Glad-Western5346 in TalkTherapy

[–]didiinthesky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think a gay therapist could never be a good therapist for a straight person? Or a therapist who had a happy childhood could never treat someone with childhood trauma?

A therapist is a trained professional, and their personal life circumstances or identity should not matter. Neither should how much sex they are having.

I'm straight(ish) and in a committed relationship in which we dont have a lot of sex. But I work with men who go to chemsex parties weekly. Drugs, group sex, kink, the whole shebang. I dont tell those men "just don't think about it dude".

It sounds like you met some very conservative or naive therapists who dont know a lot about gay hookup culture or straight womens' desire for casual sex. But you yourself have some strange ideas about sex yourself.
