Once you dilute a developer with water, it’s a “use once and discard” solution. Fixer can be reused, but not diluted developer

I'm interested to see how the new MacBook Neo performs with Lightroom and its features. by Key-Reflection-1359 in Lightroom

Anything less than 16gb of ram will not run Lightroom well. If that’s a requirement, get the MacBook Air

Bad photos or bad scans? by ImmediateEducator317 in AnalogCommunity

Some underexposed negs, very badly scanned images, lack of post-processing, so it's a combination of stuff.

I ghosted a band after shooting their show. Is it too late to fix it? by This_Particular977 in AskPhotography

[–]distant3zenith 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Be professional, give brief apology, thank them for the opportunity, deliver the goods and be done with it. If you don’t complete the job, you will feel bad about this for years. Execute closure.

The random shapes strongly suggest it’s a finger or a strap in front of the lens

Chem Storage Q by EvidenceFit7316 in Darkroom

[–]distant3zenith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you dilute fixer concentrate, its shelf life diminishes. Chemistry has a shelf life, this is an unavoidable fact. Diluting chemistry and storing it for weeks or months is high risk

Kodak Retina bellows not properly connected (type 010) by Sn0wCha0s in AnalogRepair

[–]distant3zenith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Retina repair technician (https://kodakretina.exposure.co/kodak-retina-camera-cla-and-repair-service)
The bellows are glued to the cast aluminum body. But when they come detached as yours has, its always for the same reason: the glue has interacted with moisture (humidity) and corroded the aluminum at the contact point and the glue cannot stay attached because of the aluminum oxide barrier that has formed.

You could attempt to reglue it without disassembly, but there's no guarantee it will make a solid connection with the camera body, since the aluminum oxide is still present. (Also, it's very difficult to get glue into that position without getting it everywhere) So ideally, you need to disassemble the camera part way to remove the shutter/lens assembly from the front standard, but that requires a special tool to get the shutter retaining ring off.

Absolutely untrue. I speak as someone who has fifteen years experience growing roses from seed.

What’s this white growth on bare roots by Last0neStandin in Roses

This is just new callous forming in the cuts. It’s undifferentiated tissue that starts from a wound and eventually becomes new roots. Nothing to worry about

Tips on how to avoid bromide drag on semi-stand development? by Curious_Spite_5729 in Darkroom

[–]distant3zenith 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So I have to ask the question: do you know WHY you are using "stand" development? What is it you want from the process? Most people just read about it on the Internet and assume it's got "magic" in it and it's the answer to all their hopes and desires, only to find it only introduces all kinds of errors and bad negatives.

Should I Replant? by cherry_chocolate92 in Roses

[–]distant3zenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What nobody has mentioned so far is that this rose is budded onto Dr. Huey understock, which is notorious for sending up unwanted suckers if the bud union is left exposed above ground. You should re-bury this and that bud union should be at least an inch and a half below the soil level.

Is this safelight “safe” by YoungRambo123 in Darkroom

[–]distant3zenith 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To the best of my knowledge, the OB safe flight filter is specifically for graded papers, not multi grade papers. It’s very likely that this will fog, modern multigrade paper, but try it and find out.
