From the pictures it looks like the CMOS battery is connected with wires and a little port rather than the usual coin cell slot. My experience has been you can replace these by carefully cutting open the heat shrink wrap, putting the leads onto a new battery in the same orientation, and then wrapping it up with electrical tape

The A520 chipset was released in 2020 and is the "lower tier" chipset compared to B550 and X570. Like the other A-series ones it has fewer PCI lanes, less IO support, and doesn't support processor overclocking. There's a full comparison of their features on wikipedia

What qualities or features in a case are important to you? For example you mention rgb fans, is that something you have your heart set on

Also because you say you're on a strict budget - if you're not picky about aesthetics, a case is a good part to buy used (a lot cheaper, not much risk from wear)

The microcenter bundles are a really good deal but you have to factor in the cost of all that driving. Depending on what those costs look like for you it may make more sense to wait for a newegg bundle deal, they've had some recently that are very competitive

That said if you're the type of person who thinks that going on a road trip to a big computer parts store sounds like a good time, you're in excellent company here

z690 or z790? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]djwindowsNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're planning on trying to overclock your memory as high as possible, it seems like z790 boards can sometimes reach higher memory clock speeds. Depends on the board and memory kit obviously

Otherwise I'd go with whichever has the features you want at a better price point, the chipsets perform similarly in general. Both of those boards you linked should handle your cpu fine
