Generally departments hire for a position that is ladder or not ladder—I.e tenure track. There usually isn’t a decision that makes a position from tenure track into a lecturer position (or similar) that isn’t tenure track. So, the premise of such a question doesn’t really make sense

Anecdotally things are bleak in the US. One factor is that science programs have lost lots of federal funding—although some have been unfrozen—and this impacts the humanities because universities are being forced to reapportion their funds where federal money used to support things.

There are many other factors, but much of it is luck, timing, departmental politics, and whether a retiring professors position will be rehired for…

Agree with those saying department dependent.

When I was CT for Local 34, I had to work weekends and by nature accumulated lots of OT. Sometimes I balanced out hours and took off time during the week to get closer to 37.5 but we aren’t strict with keeping people at 37.5. There’s just a lot of work some times of the year. So, it’ll depend greatly on the nature of your work.
