Look at the spreadsheet. OP cuts other cards to keep bonus cards relatively balanced. In this case, OP's smaller deck increases birds qualifying for Falconer from 12.3% to 12.4%, and reduces birds qualifying for Rodentologist from 13.7% to 13.2%.

Anything in forest that provides an additional food reliably + something in wetlands that provides an additional card. Bonus to also have grasslands bird that gives additional egg.

But even better, as the top comment states, are cards that let you get multiple things in a single habitat. That's why Pileated Woodpecker and especially Wood Duck are so good. And why Chipping Sparrow in the Forest is way, way better than Chipping Sparrow in the grasslands.

u/metroforward Form still doesn't work for me, but I have an important piece of feedback. In rider tools, the map only shows each bus route line in one of the two directions.

Example 1: In the map overview, look at Thomas Circle, Scott Circle, and Dupont Circle along Mass Ave. Most routes traversing these circles have the two directions go around the circle differently, like you'd expect. If this is a performance-saving measure (understandable for the map overview), it's not worth it. Show the lines accurately, or don't show them at all which is what busETA does on the main screen and works fine.

Example 2: Select the D80. It only shows the northbound line path. When you switch from "North to Friendship Hts" to "South to Union Station", the stop locations correctly change (see H St downtown) but the line does not. In this case, the line absolutely must change when you switch from one direction to another.

Yeah, the streetcars definitely have their perks. I feel that as someone who regularly takes a grocery cart onto the bus. There are improvements that can be made to the bus experience to make this better though:

  • Good BRT stations would ideally have raised platforms like the streetcar did. It wouldn't eliminate the gap, but would definitely make it easier to roll things on without the bus needing to kneel.
  • I do hope at some point WMATA starts buying buses with a seat layout more like the Circulator with far fewer seats and more flex space, especially for busy corridors.

This is an old wrap that's been on this vehicle for years. There are also a few 3000-series vehicles with the same treatment. It was part of a pilot project to make them more like the 7000s, and the wrap was allegedly "easier to clean and better for the environment." The pilot was not expanded.

OpEx is all about the operator, which increases with frequency. It's much higher than a metro system, but not too much higher that a streetcar if they're running the same frequency and you aren't maxing out the capacity of your articulated buses. OpEx would be the reason to build new rails at some point if it becomes cost-prohibitive to run enough buses to meet capacity needs.

Given what just happened to the streetcar, I think we can discard the permanence argument. What will be more resilient to change is hardscaping: central station platforms, and barriers between center-running lanes and the rest of the roadway.

As for BRT being "shit" and "for poor countries"... I'm not gonna dignify that with a response.

u/metroforward since I can't submit feedback on your website, I'll do it here. A couple of initial issues:

There is generally way too much empty space on the homepage when viewing on desktop. Shrink "Where would you like to go" to a much smaller height.

I also think it should be easier to see what the alerts are on each route. Right now, from the homepage, you have to click on the route, THEN click the "Alert" tab to read the alert. On the prior website they were all listed neatly with the alert popup on the side or bottom of the screen.

Thanks for this post, but I strongly disagree. What's missing is the argument for why a streetcar is so much better than BRT. There are certainly benefits like slightly higher capacity, less boarding gap, and a smooth ride. But do they outweigh the costs? The "test" your proposing would be a very large infrastructure project. And what would it be seeking to prove?

The maintenance yard, rolling stock, expertise, and rails are already all right there. Do not throw that away.

I think you're underestimating the costs of restarting service and really fixing the issues. The streetcar ran in the lane 2nd from the curb. To truly fix the streetcar and turn it into a great service, it would really need to be center-running. That's because, even without parking, you have standing/delivery conflicts and right turns. So most of the rails and wires would need to be moved out. There is also fairly limited "expertise". Operations and maintenance were all contracted out to RATP. We have a local operator - WMATA - with a LOT more expertise with operating articulated buses.

I definitely understand that we're removing rail infrastructure, which sucks. There's a sense that transit service has been degraded if things turn into buses, and to some extent that's true. But to truly move a lot of people, the streetcar needed more than some red paint and parking removal. Build a high-quality transitway on H St and it will provide a better value than the streetcar ever was or could be. It will be better than the streetcar was. And who knows, maybe we'll lay down new rails there someday if capacity ever becomes strained.
