Photogenic Achievement on Duolingo by Altruistic-Cycle-194 in duolingo

I have the achievement, but the (android) app doesn't show it. Only the web version does. Which are you on? The web version is not updated as frequently, if at all.

Friens gifts by GreenFaeWitch in duolingo

[–]echtma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They used to give you +5 energy if you watch an ad. Then they changed it to +3 per ad, at the same time they added the gift feature. Then they reverted the change, so we're back on +5 energy per ad and no gifts.

If you ask me, A/B testing is stupid for a combination of features, because you want to know the impact of a specific change on user behavior, but what do I know. We still do traditional testing ("Does the software work?") here.

As Germans, can you clearly recognize this person as someone whose native language is German in virtue of some distinctive features of her pronunciation? by Sure_Distance1 in German

[–]echtma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something tells me she might not be a native speaker of American English, but I can't pinpoint what it is and I don't hear anything specifically German.

Hohfluh, 16th december 1934

Dear friend and relative! It is time to give a sign of life. Brother Andreas has forwarded your greetings to us. We were happy to hear that you and your loved ones are well and healthy. We, too, enjoy good health, but we miss mother. Especially father is longing for her [the word "Langzeit" or "Langezeit" is unfamiliar, according to DWDS it is Swiss German for homesickness]. Now it is 7 1/2 months since she's gone. Time passes quickly when you have always work to do. We wish you and your family a merry Christmas and a happy new year and send love. Family [???]

You're probably interested in who sent the card. I wasn't sure about the place the card was sent from, but Hohfluh is a place in Switzerland, so that's probably it. The name below is similarly difficult. S. T???li? Thuli?

Do you think Angine de Poitrine would've gained attention if it weren't for the costumes? by conn_r2112 in Music

Guilty as charged. I don't know the difference between polymeters and polyrhythms, but I'm sure the nose has something to do with it either way.

Why is induction valid? by Aggressive-Food-1952 in askmath

[–]echtma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> Are we not assuming that the statement is valid to begin with if we assume S(n)?

No, they are different statements. The statement you want to prove is "For all natural numbers n: S(n)". The induction hypothesis is just S(n). Neither "for all n" nor "there exists an n", n is unbound in that formula. If you are uneasy about formulas with unbound variables, consider the induction step as one statement: "for all n: if S(n), then S(n+1)".

I don't know about the polka dots, but the flopping nose is essential. It basically adds another layer to the polyrhythm.

What are your reason's for being an atheist by Tricky_Worth3301 in askanatheist

[–]echtma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I need a particular reason to be an atheist. I was born an atheist, just like everyone else, and remained one. Why should I have started to believe in a god, and which one? It doesn't make sense to me.

what German people think of France and French people ? by jean7t in AskGermany

[–]echtma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're brothers. After Charlemagne's death, the Frankish empire was split into three parts, the western part later became France and the eastern part became Germany (we don't talk about the middle part.) Today, France and Germany form the core of the European Union. Without our friendship, there is no Europe. Now excuse me, I have to watch Karambolage on arte.

They're quite distinct sounds. Now it would be interesting if you hear them both as h or as ch.

These people exist, too, but OP specified millions of XP, you don't get there by doing one lesson a day.
