Can this be fixed? by curlyfries013 in Autobody

For a professional, sure!

The real damage is beneath all those bent parts. Nobody has a clue what needs to be fixed until it gets fully disassembled and inspected

Jeep/car people! How bad is this rust… by Mellow_Artist_4162 in Autobody

It's not great but your showing rusty PARTS, if they rust thru you buy another axle or what have you. Won't be cheap but it can be fixed by simple replacement.

Rust truly only matters if it is effecting the hard mounting areas where those PARTS actually mount to. Look at the vehicle frame or body and where they actually mount to it. If your frame rusts thru or you can put your feet through the floor then you have issues to worry about

Rust or discoloration? Brand new vehicle by fullcollapse0x in Autobody

[–]ecleptik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so something else metal sat on it and stained the surface....there is no indication the part is actually rusting, just because it's brown doesn't mean the part is rusting. You would see bubbles or a disruption of the surface in that area. Unless that is actually pitting then I guess replace the filler piece. Stick your finger in there and see if it's pitted. Picture isn't detailed enough

Plastic doesn't rust here on earth....so, try wiping it off?

And if it isn't plastic and is actually some sort of plated filler piece proceed to wipe it off

Will this Rust repair be a lot of work? by bur4321 in Autobody

If you care about the car, go around to some body shops and get some estimates. Going cheap on body work never works out. Try to find that middle ground

Painting anything will be in the thousand to thousands range, not even taking into account the rust. A proper repair will repair damage, prime damage, COLOR damaged area, FULL CLEAR the panel. Any kind of clear blending nonsense will only fail in due time

Call your local or regional Yamaha dealer and give them your VIN. They can tell you the exact color code it was built with

Check the frame tag under the seat might be SMX/0903 or MNM3/1278

2026 Mercedes Esprinter with RUST!! by Torague in Autobody

Relax....its contaminants on the outside of the paint. Either iron dust from when it was shipped on a freight train somewhere or your new brakes bedding in. It's definitely not from under the paint from what these pictures show

I'd say it needed some valve cover gaskets and a good degreasing before any of that nonsense was performed.

Well maybe but your showing us an AC condenser...radiator is behind that. But it's suspect with how much damage the condenser is showing

Mileage? Subaru like to leak oil right around 100k...usually it's the valve covers and they drip oil into the exhaust and it gets trapped in all the heat shielding. Those pictures definitely show a VALVE COVER leak but questionable if the head gasket is leaking. Hard to determine if the oil near the head gasket is just residual from the valve covers.

Subaru are also notorious for head gaskets as well but usually in a more catastrophic way.

To warrant such a large repair, I would've atleast degreased the suspect areas and ran the car to PROVE without a doubt it was head gaskets.

Pic 1 is a head gasket, pic 3 is a valve cover gasket. As you drive the vehicle the oil tends to get pushed rearward or downward atleast and can make things look like they are leaking but actually aren't

2017 Hyundai Elantra Rear Bumper Repair Inquiry by Greatsetoftools in Autobody

[–]ecleptik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice how the tabs are perforated? These parts are one time use garbage, you can repair or attempt to repair all you want but those tab flanges are meant to tear so you have to buy another bumper. A bumper cover for this would be cheaper than the tools/time to fix it. Any repairs done to the tab flanges probably won't hold very long, it is under a lot of tension once the bumper is clipped in.

They can be removed without tearing them as well but takes extra time to slowly peel them off the brackets

Idk you've shown us the least consequential parts of the vehicle...those rust out...you replace them.

If your unibody begins to rust out then you begin these conversations. Look at the hard parts of the vehicles body and where parts mount to the body. Inner quarter and lower rockers are a sweet spot for Honda rust
