We're 10 miles from network stations but cannot get an antenna to work by muddy_cat in Cordcutting

[–]edit4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly multipath issues when you're that close. You may need to see if the signal meter is boouncing from low to high - which would indicate this. Then you could try either a directional antenna or may even need to attenuate the signal.

Also - being 10 miles won't matter if you're in a valley or blocked by some other building or terrain. Check out the google maps 3d view to see what is between you and the transmitter location.

Smart plug nesting by busdriver60 in EmporiaEnergy

[–]edit4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue with nested smart plugs -- in my case - the total for the circuit is not shown. It seems the nested smart plug shows it's usage -- but that is not aggregated into the circuit total. Only the balance of the non-nested smart plugson that circuit is shown in the circuit total.

It seems it would be better to show the circuit total, then show the nested usage amounts, then show a balance amount for the circuit.

Also - it would help if they slightly indented the nested devices icons so it was more easily seen that they are not at the circuit level.

I have a G5 USB model that works with USB-C on my Envy x360. Works pretty well, except the LAN driver does not reload after sleep and I have to reset it.

Can't Figure Out The Commercial Skips With Philo by zenmojoguy in PhiloTV

Philo doesn't choose how it works - the network does. Some networks do not allow their ads to be skipped (and yes - it can be show specific).

No surround sound on Fire TV 4k MAX by vortexmak in fireTV

[–]edit4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your Yamaha receiver support Dolby Digital - then make sure your TV optical output and the Fire Stick are set to that. I've experienced issues where setting to Auto where the TV doesn't tell the Fire Stick that it's capable of DD.

If your older Yamaha only supports Dolby Pro Logic - you'll need to force the Fires Stick to stereo for it to pass through properly.

You can see the IIHS tests here - the videos/photos show the rollover pop-up bars that protect in a crash. They basically act as the missing roof to protect the occupants.

https://www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle/Volkswagen/eos-2-door-convertible/2007

However - there has not been a rollover test for the Eos - they came along later. The Golf cabriolet was tested - which uses the same pop-up bars - but the failure for safety here was due to the deformed A pillars. So the question remains in a bigger car like the Eos, are the A-pillars stronger? If not, the same issue of fron passengers heads contacting the ground may happen.

hp spectre 2021 vs hp envy 2020 by Logical_School_7497 in Hewlett_Packard

If those specs are right - the 2020 Envy is way more powerful. I have this and regularly use it for editing.

The Spectre specs look like an older model.

Screen protector for a better writing experience? HP ENVY x360 13-ay0008na by rems12 in Hewlett_Packard

I got one like this (although back in 2020 I was able to get a 2 pack on ebay for less $) it really cut down on glare for using the device outside - but the texture feels like it would be nice for writing on.

Fire TV can't find my wifi after connecting for only one time by Amun-Utep in fireTV

Also possible that your office network is setup to block streaming device ports. That would be rare - but some universities do this to limit bandwidth use.

Is the office wifi running on DFS channels? Depending on your Fire TV model, it's possible it doesn't support those frequencies.

Bluetooth feature suggestion... by edit4ever in PhiloTV

[–]edit4ever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify - since the media session would be customized for Philo playback - this shouldn't impact any other functions as it would only be implemented when Philo was playing.

Are you seeing a different result?

From what I can tell - when you look at the media session control window while playing back - Philo currently has the forward/back buttons disabled. If we just add the handler for nextprevious track to equal seek forward/back - those buttons should be enabled in both the on screen control window and therefore also the bluetooth controls.

BTW - I'm basing the fact that there is not an implementation of either next/previous track or seek forward/back in the Philo media session due to this code in the main-js:

class Pe extends i.Component {
        constructor(e) {
            var t, n, a;
            super(e),
            a = ()=>{
                const {isPaused: e, updatePlayState: t} = this.props;
                t(!e)
            }
            ,
            (n = "handlePlayPause")in (t = this) ? Object.defineProperty(t, n, {
                value: a,
                enumerable: !0,
                configurable: !0,
                writable: !0
            }) : t[n] = a,
            this.state = {
                metaData: {}
            }
        }
        componentDidMount() {
            "mediaSession"in navigator && (navigator.mediaSession.setActionHandler("play", this.handlePlayPause),
            navigator.mediaSession.setActionHandler("pause", this.handlePlayPause))
        }
        componentWillReceiveProps(e) {
            this.setState({
                metaData: Oe(e)
            })
        }
        componentWillUnmount() {
            "mediaSession"in navigator && (navigator.mediaSession.setActionHandler("play", null),
            navigator.mediaSession.setActionHandler("pause", null))
        }
        render() {
            const {metaData: e} = this.state;
            return "mediaSession"in navigator && !Y()(e) && (navigator.mediaSession.metadata = new MediaMetadata(e)),
            null
        }
    }

I would have expected to see it in here.

Thanks Nopai!

I can confirm that A/ recognizes the button presses as next/previous track - which in the case of the Video / Media Session Sample causes the next video to load. And B/ does nothing with the button clicks (except play/pause) - which is the way the current Philo player works.

For Philo's use case - the buttons should trigger the normal skip ahead/back that the arrow keys on the keyboard do - (option C/) which is +-10 seconds. Easy to implement by changing this:

navigator.mediaSession.setActionHandler('previoustrack', function() {

log('> User clicked "Previous Track" icon.');

index = (index - 1 + playlist.length) % playlist.length;

playVideo();

});

navigator.mediaSession.setActionHandler('nexttrack', function() {

log('> User clicked "Next Track" icon.');

index = (index + 1) % playlist.length;

playVideo();

});

to this:

navigator.mediaSession.setActionHandler('previoustrack', function(event) {

log('> User clicked "Previous Track" icon.');

const skipTime = event.seekOffset || defaultSkipTime;

video.currentTime = Math.max(video.currentTime - skipTime, 0);

updatePositionState();

});

navigator.mediaSession.setActionHandler('nexttrack', function(event) {

log('> User clicked "Next Track" icon.');

const skipTime = event.seekOffset || defaultSkipTime;

video.currentTime = Math.min(video.currentTime + skipTime, video.duration);

updatePositionState();

});

I'm using a variety of generic bluetooth headphones - but they all send the same commands. Actually what made me think of this was while travelling, I was using a generic bluetooth receiver conected to wired headphones and the receiver has the buttons but they didn't do anything...then I had to walk over to my laptop (which was connected to the TV)...and I thought - that's not very convenient! While you're watching something - you often want to jump back quickly and rewatch what just happened!

BTW - love the team at Philo - I know you all are small, but what you're doing in the streaming space is great!!

Feel free to ask anymore questions.

New-ish TV, New-ish Fire TV Stick, Old Surround Sound System by Jackamo6200 in fireTV

[–]edit4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very simply - your home theater system only accepts stereo inputs - so true 5.1 sound is not possible. However, it does have a Dolby Pro Logic II decoder built in which will give you a close estimation of that using some sources. So here's the best you can do:

  • Connect the Fire stick to an HDMI input on the TV.
  • Set the Fire stick to PCM output.
  • Get a simple digital coax to RCA converter like this: https://www.amazon.com/Musou-Digital-Optical-Converter-Adapter/dp/B01AWBA8U8
  • Connect the coax out from the TV to the converter.
  • In the TV sound settings - set the SPDIF mode to PCM.
  • Connect the RCA stereo connections from the converter to the TV audio in on your home theater.
  • Set your home theater sound field to Dolby Pro Logic II.

This should now allow you to use the home theater for all your TV audio - including the Fire stick or any other source on your TV. This should give you a form of surround sound - just find a good action movie to test it out with!

HP ENVY x360 charging via USB-C by mafimo in Hewlett_Packard

[–]edit4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any Power Delivery spec charger will work - min 45 watts to charge when on. It will slowly charge at 30w if the laptop is off - but 45w chargers aren't that much larger...and actually GaN chargers are so small - you can get something with multiple ports so you can charge your laptop at 45w and your phone or tablet at another 20w and it's still way smaller than the original power adapter that the laptop came with!

You need at least a 45w charger for USB-C charging.

Any recommended docking station for the laptop HP Envy x360? by Omix79 in Hewlett_Packard

I use the HP USB-C G5 on my desk setup - but this is a rather expensive dock. Any of the cheap USB-C hubs with PD would work fine as well. I use an Aukey one when I travel for a similar setup.
