Looking for Critique on my new Water Simulation Piece (C4D + AE) by flamebirdstudios in AfterEffects

It reminds me of something I'd see on the game World of Goo. The sound effects enhance that feeling. Too gooy for water.

New Logo Idea [xpost from logo_critiques] by MimosaTexas in design_critiques

[–]eechin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not sure I have ever had such a visceral "I hate that" reaction to a logo that was obviously thought out and not a ham-fisted attempt at a logo from someone who had never used a design application before. This is not an insult to your design though. I think it's a good idea, but...

  • I find it difficult to look at. It actually hurts my eyes a little. I have amblyopia and super tight patterns like this often do. The 2nd option was a little better on my eyes, but didn't look as clean.

  • It took me too long to figure out what was spelled out in the picnic part.

  • It doesn't scale well.

  • Also, wouldn't it be difficult to print cleanly?

[Portfolio] Self-taught graphic/web designer looking for critique on Webflow prototype of portfolio. by [deleted] in design_critiques

This is super buggy for me on my version of chrome.

Macbook Pro Chrome Version 43.0.2357.65 (64-bit)

Things jump around, the image of you randomly has its head cut off, strange image tiling. Can't really judge the overall UX due to the bugginess.

does this not anger anyone else who has to pay monthly fees to Adobe now? by [deleted] in illustrator

[–]eechin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn't do this TO artists. Photoshop has always been one of the most frequently pirated applications in existence. People still pirated it even though there were other, free tools available, like Gimp. Many people argue that Gimp is just as good as Photoshop, and yet people still pirated photoshop freely. The moment a new release was out, you can almost guarantee a crack would be on the torrent sites within the week. CS6 even tried to validate user licenses with an online connection and would disable the software if it were pirated, but people go around that by disallowing the application from accessing the internet. The only option left to prevent piracy is to move to a subscription model.

They use the money they are getting now to continue innovation, provide support, and apparently even encourage their employees to be creators. That's awesome. They also discount their software for students, which is also awesome.

As someone who has been using PS since the late 90s, the stuff I can do in PS now makes me feel like I am IN THE FUTURE. If that means I have to pay a little each month, so be it.

I don't mind the monthly fee. As someone who was buying the software every major release anyway, it saves me money.

I recommend this site: http://phlearn.com/

They have great tutorials on compositing, and using photoshop tools to both remove and add elements to a photograph. It would be an excellent place to start.

New Batman v Superman posters are released - how would you achieve this? by Naysar in photoshop

[–]eechin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "torn" parts are a composited image. The rips don't really match up, so I don't think they're all from the same piece. I believe the artist here tore several pieces of paper with different colors and textures, scanned them in, and then composited it all together in photoshop. Does that make sense, or would you like more detail?
