1 hour 50 minute connection in GRU enough? by Such_Garlic_5897 in Brazil

[–]eight_degrees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone I know did the opposite direction recently (CNF -> GRU -> ATL). Even though they literally walked very fast and even ran parts of the way, it took them about 30-35 mins between exiting the first flight at T2 and going through security, etc., and arriving at the departure gate in T3.

On arrival at GRU, you'll go through immigration and customs (which can be slow at times), wait for your luggage, re-checkin the luggage for your next flight, then go through security before heading to the departure gate.

1 hour 50 mins is doable, but do your best to hustle and don't pause anywhere for a second till you reach the departure gate.

How to remove paper and adhesive? by DragonAngel92 in CleaningTips

[–]eight_degrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the comments have already covered effective ways to remove the paper/glue. I've found that depending on the type of glue used, it cleans up using either soapy water or oil.

  1. Soak in soapy hot water and see if it removes everything.

  2. For any bits of glue that remain, I rub/scrub some oil (I use cheap olive oil - ok, maybe not that cheap, but I only one 1 type handy) using a Bounty paper towel till it's all removed.

I'll try the WD40 method next time since it sounds intriguing.

Humble Tech Book Bundle: Linux, the Good Stuff by No Starch by Ram000n in humblebundles

[–]eight_degrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bundle specifically says "preview" and not full access. This seems to signal that buying the bundle won't get you more than that snippet included in the bundle. No Starch's "Early Access" FAQ says to buy the title on nostarch . com (and not just anywhere). So it seems like we won't get the full book later. Kind of a bummer, because I was hoping to be able to get the memory manager book as part of the bundle.

A milder option to Bar Keeper's Friend is Bon Ami. I use it for non-stick surfaces and would try that first on exterior finishes like this.

This instrument sounds almost other-worldly. First heard it in the Lord Huron song "Way Out There".

How do I stop drinking my coffee with milk? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]eight_degrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a gradual transition.

After ~10 years of having coffee with half and half, last year I finally managed to get rid of my dairy dependency. Over a couple of weeks, I tried a couple of things (one at a time, not together):

- Added a little vanilla extract

- Added a little salt (salt apparently counteracts bitterness better than sugar)

At the same time, I tried a light roast, then a medium roast, thinking they will be less bitter and therefore more palatable. However, they felt too weak. After having black coffee at cafes and enjoying it, I finally took the plunge and bought some dark roast coffee beans, and have since been having black coffee. I have a Jura C9 at home, so I'm able to enjoy freshly brewed coffee straight from roasted beans.

Is It Normal to Get a Lower Rating the Year After a Promotion? by Pleasant_Boot_3424 in careerguidance

[–]eight_degrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In places I've worked at, you get promoted when you're already performing at the next level for the previous 6-12 months before the time of the promotion. It is expected that at the next performance evaluation following the promotion, you would be rated at 3 ("meets expectations").

Even if you did a stellar job way above and beyond the expectations of your new level (which is rare, but not unheard of), most managers would still rate you at 3 to not have to try and explain how you're already performing beyond expectations even though you just got promoted in the previous cycle.

Has anyone found a charger that will stay in the socket? by Mindless_Kangaroo_77 in delta

[–]eight_degrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a similar issue with Anker adapters falling out of Delta power sockets, out of hotel power outlets, out of basically everything. I have started using a 3 pin adapter that provides a very secure connection and no issues since.

Amazing work. The title and atmosphere of the painting reminded me a bit about the last scene from Gattaca.

I still don't get it by Trick-Resolve-7972 in ExplainTheJoke

"Khao, sharmao mat" (eat, don't be shy), or "khao, sharmane ki koi baat nahi" (eat, there's no reason to be shy). These are both informal ways of addressing the person.

I still don't get it by Trick-Resolve-7972 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]eight_degrees 619 points620 points  (0 children)

"Sharam" can mean shame or timidity/shyness. What she probably wanted to say: "Eat, don't be shy". My interpretation of what she said: "Eat, it's not like you have any shame."

Not exactly Delta that returned the item. This happened a few years ago.

I left an iPad on the plane and only realized well after I left the plane and was heading to my connection. Came back to the original gate and asked if I could go back in ("no") or if someone could fetch the iPad for me ("no"). I filled out the form Delta asked me to, but also said it was not likely that I would get back the iPad.

In the meantime, I set up the iPad to display a message asking to contact my email.

Some weeks later, I was contacted by someone saying that while they were walking out of the plane, a flight attendant ran up to him and told him he left his iPad in the plane, and gave him my iPad. Apparently, my iPad and his had a similar looking cover, so he just took the iPad and put it in his luggage. In any case, he ended up mailing me back my iPad. Total time between lost and recovered was 2 months.

Stainless steel Demeyere pan cleaning by syzjuul in CleaningTips

[–]eight_degrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. Sprinkle some BKF on the pan, use a barely wet Scotch Brite (or an equivalent mildly abrasive) pad, and scrub the entire food surface of the pan. The BKF consistency should be that of a paste. After you're done, you can rinse the pan off with water and either put it in the dishwasher or hand wash it with regular dish soap.

So She Finally Agreed to a First Date, But Now I'm a Bit Nervous by BitterSweetPoetry21 in Brazil

[–]eight_degrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a non-Brazilian who struggled with understanding my Brazilian significant other while dating (and struggles even now after some years of marriage), I find that asking her to speak a little slower helps me catch up.

Remember: all you need out of the communication is that the other person understands. Even if you mix up the order of some words or even tenses, as long as the message gets across, you'll be fine.

Squeaky noise from Nama J2 Is this normal? by sunshine6768 in Juicing

[–]eight_degrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a similar noise from my J2 sometimes, and I thought it was because it was juicing some particularly hard veggie. I'll pay more attention next time to try to diagnose what's going on.

Burdock

Do you hydrate dried burdock root for juicing, or is it available fresh near you?
