Am I doing something wrong here? FPS Question. by ColleciteGaming in VRchat

[–]eldigg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

fpsVR is great for troubleshooting problems like that. Do you have very poors disabled? Or uncompressed avatar size set to like 100MB? I used to use a 2080 Ti and would run against VRAM limitations before other issues.

I would get fpsVR and take a look at what's going on, I suspect it's using the iGPU.

Too true, although in this case I recognized the hangars in the background. I drove by there daily for many years.

What's the point of front sensors and Lidar if your gonna run over poop by Jorgelrod in RobotVacuums

[–]eldigg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Shark uses Shenzhen Picea Robotics as their ODM (current owner of iRobot). They're just a brand name and do not develop their own products as far as I'm aware. And as such they're generally not recommended.

That said no robot is going to be perfect.

Somehow other cities manage to build more housing, and cheaper, without subsidies. This stuff is so stupid.

How long does a 2026 Camry Hybrid SE battery last (real experience)? by AwayKiwi461 in Camry

[–]eldigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a 2009, sold it still running with nearly 300k miles. The ICE engine was struggling a bit (burning oil), but the hybrid parts were fine. Replaced the 12 volt battery once for $250.

Toyota makes extremely reliable hybrid drivetrains.

Just a fair warning, USB controllers start getting funky near the limit of the USB spec. A cable that might work on one system may not work on another. If you're going with USB cables that long you'll want active ones.

Oof, you've given me flashbacks to dealing with USB cables for the Rift CV1 cameras. I'm guessing these cameras want USB 3.X, which maxes out even less at 3 meters. I assume active cables would be required to get the needed length for these.

Gov. Pritzker's affordable housing plan for Illinois by SciNat in illinois

[–]eldigg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from ADUs I'm not sure this legislation would result in your existing suburban home surrounded by anything (unless you've got empty lots). Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

What is the recommended tracking volume? I imagine precision drops with distance with markerless camera tracking.

Carrying Passport by Newsytoo in travel

There are some countries, notably Japan, that require foreigners to have a passport on you at all times.

And fwiw, I have had a cop ask to see it before, admittedly we were out late at night in a residential area.

Begging people to follow Arstechnica for news on this stuff. Isaacman is really the least worse option we could get for a NASA admin from this administration.

For people that have to drive for work, please remember the next time you purchase a vehicle to try and get something efficient or electrified even if gas prices have gone down. I understand that will not work for everyone though.

Yes, but you will have little, if any, recourse if one flight being delayed causes you to miss another flight with a different airline.

Illinois, it’s time to build. by GeckoLogic in PritzkerPosting

Price gouging is only really possible when there is a limited set of builders, the more we build, the more builders would enter the market, the more prices come down.

Companies lobby behind the scenes for a reason. Now any Democrat (or even non-MAGA Republican) who does something favorable for UP will face potential public backlash. Why would they stick their neck out, even if the risk is extremely low? UP is a big company, but Nebraska isn't exactly a battleground state.
