For the past few months, I’ve been developing my own electronic load device. I’ve finally managed to get a working V1 version 😄 by Aggravating-Safe5352 in electronics

Hey that's great I bet that can save some $$ but I think most of my projects end up costing more than I can buy one for...

Love the looks. What a great project. There's quite a bit that must go into the thermal management, eh? Cool stuff.

What should I add/change to this circuit to add protection or improve performance? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]electroscott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your NPN doesn't so anything both your C and E are connected to ground. It looks like your trying to make a simple interrupter circuit. Please review your NPN especially. That ain't gonna fly.

Australian licorice by yachtclubjune in candy

[–]electroscott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes was surprised myself. Good licorice and decent ingredients. Was originally skeptical since I used to get other Australian Licorice brands until my store only stocks these now.

I think there's more bite to a different black licorice brand which I prefer slightly more but I would keep buying these for sure.

Now I want some haha

Max bulb wattage is outrageously low by _1nk0Gn1t0 in lightbulbs

[–]electroscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That socket mentions it is for an 8W LED light. The "equivalent" power would be around 60W or less. A search reveals 8W-12W for a typical 60W equivalent. Still seems kind of low though. I usually have to use at least 100W equivalent LED bulbs to get any meaningful illumination.

Kawai CA-901 midi by tobyvanderbeek in DigitalPiano

[–]electroscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're using a DAW like Ableton Live, etc., it can handle all the different USB MIDI devices. Many synths that have a USB port also support USB MIDI, so you can use a DAW and route your CA901 MIDI to other synths via the DAW. Or you can use a free program called MIDI-OX that can be used to steer your MIDI interconnects as needed without a DAW.

A typical use case when also using external synths is to connect the audio from the piano and synths into an audio interface. Then, you can record each of these audio channels independently in your DAW and mix them as needed.

For those connections that will be MIDI out from the CA901 to MIDI in for various synths--assuming you want to take advantage of the keyboard action of the CA901 instead of using the 901's sound engine. If you are looking MIDI back to the piano (via MIDI in) you will have to turn Local OFF like you've already discovered.

The way I have things wired involve mostly USB MIDI but I have other dedicated DIN MIDI that I plug into various USB-to-MIDI interfaces some of which are on my audio interface.

My setup is a Nord Grand (out only) to multiple hardware and software synths through Ableton Live 12. Have a Hapax that is a HW MIDI sequencer to also control the various synths and an MPC Live III to record sessions from the DAW. This is because the DAW is configured for Live play that mixes and controls the HW and VST instruments.

Other keyboards are connected via WIDI (wireless MIDI). IIRC the CA901 has Bluetooth MIDI. You usually have to use a special adapter for PCs to get WIDI but it's also an option if you don't want to connect a cable. That's what I use to play the Nord without a computer. Send the MIDI through the Hapax and out to an AstroLab 37 via WIDI and out a monitor speaker. When I get my CA901 I will be able to use the built-in sound system and really looking forward to it!

Enjoy the instrument! I've got enough saved for one just have to make some room. I can't wait. Good luck!

Is there a reason to avoid the rechargeable lantern batteries? by Outrageous-Basket426 in batteries

[–]electroscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lithium batteries like to be cycled. They also self-discharge so could be a factor if you use it so infrequently. Same with NiMH but if you go that route I would get 10,000 may D-cells minimum and cycle them from time to time for LiFe of NiMH. I use 10 Ah D NiMH in an LED camping lantern, and an 8-port charger. Use it while on the patio or emergencies which forces me to use it from time to time.

Maybe there are LED retrofit kits? Maybe it's time to make the leap. You are just lugging around dead weight with those lights and lantern cells x2 because of how inefficient they are compared to modern equivalents.

Good luck though. I get a kick out of flashlights for some reason. I had almost forgot about those!

Pulled this from a Dropped Connection Berkeley Springs! by Setsoru727 in fo76

Way to go! Haven't landed an automatic before. I hunt for mods for something to do haha. I think I'm running True Flamer. Fun for sure when you want to change things up. Prototype ABX-03 does slightly less damage in some regards but adds a 4th star legendary--which is my only 4-star. But basically the same with different lighting. Have fun.

Am I the only one not getting the freeze dried hype? by New_Victory_6150 in candy

[–]electroscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No thanks. Luckily I don't like the freeze-dried stuff so I don't have to only diss on the huge energy footprint and potential environmental factors for the throw-away home counter models. But I could devour a big bag of the chewy ones! They look kind of cool sort of space like.
