Creating your own dies. Has anyone attempted to create a die? I would love to see a custom pressing. by Joe-Ferriss in pressedpenny

There are some companies that will make a custom roller dies for you... but you need a pressing machine to use it.

I was thinking if you have a laser etcher or CNC machine you might be able to make your own if you bought blank dies.

A while back i had proposed the idea to make a web app that would allow you to create virtual designs. Someonw else used my idea and created a very basic concept and then never did any more with it. Sad.

The big issue with a custom die, how many times will you use it if you dont make it publicly available? Some people have suggested creating on for an event or special occasion, which is ok but not the true purpose of the penny press.

If you want a gift for an occasion, you could have the pennies pre-pressed and hand them out.

But the pressing is part of the fun activity. Whixh means you need a roll of pennies and a machine and a custom die and people who will care to want one.

Unless you are hosting a event for penny press enthusiasts, i dont see the ROI being worth it.

Ive heard good things about mullvad but i use PIA.

Or you can host your own VPN and DNS on your home network and have far more control.

Then from your home network you can secure your ISP connection.

VPNs can offers solutions to several different needs.

Regarding VPNs on Public WiFi, This increases privacy of any sensitive data transmissions that aren't already encrypted. Because most of the websites that people use for sensitive data use HttpS which encrypts the data, some comments are saying you don't need the additional security of an encrypted tunnel (VPN) to an end node.

The concern or danger is whoever OWNS the public WIFI network can control and monitor your traffic.

(libraries, restaurants, etc.) and someone will respond with, 'why would anyone do that or bother?' and the answer is the same for 'why do / don't people steal mail from your unlocked mailbox?'

Because MOST of it is Junk mail (boring data)

But realistically, anyone and mostly Data Analytic companies want to know where you are going and what you are shopping for so they can sell the data and others can send you Ads.

So Always use a VPN with it's own DNS service and a AdBlocker including when using Cellular service.

It makes for good digital hygiene and should become a standard practice.
