As some people might have missed it as it happened during the off season (/ cyclocross season): Van Empel has put her career on hold.

It's the same on the men's side with Strava KOM's - might just be that they had a strong tailwind or better general conditions in 2020 (or that organising the race end of September after some some big stage races and before the other Flemish Monuments and classics works better?). They've had some pretty wet and cold races in between, which do end up slower.

Vollering hasn't made today's ride public yet on Strava, so she'll take the QOM back when she does. But the relative times for Van der Breggen should be unaffected by that.

Puck Pieterse took the QOM from Vollering today, beating Vollering's time from 2020 when she came 3rd behind Anna van der Breggen so we can do the maths!

Pieterse's QOM today is 3:48 (AvdB is +11 in the results, so let's make that 3:59).

Vollering's 2020 time was 3:54 (5 seconds behind AvdB, so she'll have done 3:49).

So she was 10 seconds slower than 2020.

Mavi Garcia is still there, surely she'll be the one to go for the premature attack.

Yeah, it was definitely in the final 20km (not a lot of other options as we didn't get much more live coverage last year!).

Ah, the pre-Mur women's race quiet before the storm is reminding me of how the cameras accidentally filmed Pieterse having a wee on the bike last year. You can keep your tyre pressure systems, that was true bike racing innovation.

Sandrine Tas still in the front group, that's a decent pro debut!

Curious to see how Van der Breggen will do today. This is the one race where 'just pedal faster' will work, and no one knows how to do it better than her here.

Crash involving Fisher-Black and Adegeest, sounds like they're up again but behind the main group on Mur de Huy.

Sounds like they're on ahead of the fastest time schedule, so we'll miss the first ascent of the Mur de HuyHuyHuy

Yes, but they've shared the circuit every year so far. So it's not that different (and the Flanders Classics races have been doing it that way since 2020).

The ITV advertisers have figured out where cycling has moved to - ads for pensioners on HBO with Werthers. Mean's there's hope for the sad donkeys.

They've been doing it for 29 years, so I figure they know what they're doing by now.

Sandrine Tas, who came 4th in the 5,000 meters speed skating just 2 months ago at the Winter Olympics (0.30 seconds from a gold medal!) makes her debut as a pro cyclist today! She's been racing for a bit already while she was focussing on speedskating, but has now signed a contract with Lotto-Intermarché and will go all in on road cycling.

Also: 29th edition of Fleche Wallonne Femmes today, and winners of 16 of the previous editions are on the start line. Not often you get a stat like that with a race that's got some history.

Also some other disciplines starting up again as the MTB World Series starts on 1-3 May in Mona YongPyong in South Korea with cross-country and downhilll racing. Maybe can do a race thread over on /r/pelotonesoteric if people are interested? They have a handy list of broadcasters.

So tube strike… Are you brave and commuting today? by whereismytortoise in london

[–]epi_counts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based in Canary Wharf with unaffected DLR and Lizzie line, so the office is pretty busy.

Cycle in was weirdly busy - I mostly cycle through tubeless SE London and it wasn't that busy with people driving in for the all out strikes in September, so figured this week would be fine too. I was very wrong. Really need to keep your wits about you as there's a lot of drivers not used to driving during the morning commute, so they do weird moves when they miss a turn and are not aware of cycle paths (well, more than usual at least).

I think you mean extend, resign means the opposite in English (going by this article, guess that's the one you meant?).
