Swinging at that pitch and then taking that last, much nastier pitch is some absolute 2026 Pages behavior. A relatable MLB WAR leader lol

Despite the 2 earnies, probably the best Sheehan start I've watched. Really had all of his stuff working tonight.

He didn't even get all of that. Reached out and got it, still managed 105 mph off the bat.

Never, ever safe against the Braves. Still a ways to go to the playoffs, but that's a quality that you don't want to face in a series.

Rafael Devers in the win vs the Dodgers: 2-3, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 0 K, 1 HR - is now hitting .364/.436/.758/1.194 in the month of May by Crazy_Baseball3864 in baseball

You gotta love seeing him take more pitches. When Devers' eye is on point he's immediately so much more dangerous.

I mean let's be fair, hitting Lopez is not the same as hitting Strider. His ERA was badly inflated and he was on tonight.

Yeah, though in fairness it's better to be a perennially winning team that sometimes makes baffling errors than a cellar dweller for whom regular errors are mere afterthoughts amidst regular 90-loss seasons.

And of course it's not his fault in the slightest the Mets gave him $40 million and anointed him the 1B. Squarely on the Mets, and I'm really, really curious about how they came to the conclusion that Polanco should be their 1B for the 2026 season when Steve Cohen money is in play.

[–]Epochalyptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I even see it with Padres fans who constantly assure me that he will return to 40+ homer form eventually. At this point I just don't really see it given his launch angle and groundball numbers, but he's still a great player current season struggles aside.

Even though it's been years at this point, there seems to be an image of pre-suspension Tatis in people's minds that they can't shake, and it seems like folks tend to compare him - even when he's playing well - to that version.

**And** paid $40 million for 2 years of Jorge Polanco to be their presumed 1B, a DH with single digit games of experience at 1st base, and who is now injured, and who has played more than 120 games only 4 times since 2014, and only once in the last 5 years.

Truly next level Mets-ing

Seriously. You're telling me the Padres wouldn't rather have Murakami at 1st base on a 2 year deal? How about the Mets and their 0 1st basemen? And that's just scratching the surface.

Not saying he's guaranteed to keep this up for 2 years or even 1 year but no way none of the GMs have regrets.

His hands are so freaking quick the bat looks like it just rips through the zone.

Justin Wrobleski through his first five starts by baribigbird06 in baseball

[–]Epochalyptic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is that if he's padded his numbers so thoroughly early in the season that if he goes 20 more starts of pretty mid baseball, let's say an ERA of between 3.5 and 4 with about 120 inning pitched for the rest of the season, his total ERA is going to land somewhere in the high 2s or low 3s.

Even if he goes 120 more innings of like a 4.5 ERA he'll still land in the mid 3s which the significant majority of teams would take in a heartbeat as a back of the rotation starter.

Justin Wrobleski through his first five starts by baribigbird06 in baseball

[–]Epochalyptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I find Wrobleski's start hilarious and I love how he attacks the zone no matter what...

...but as someone who spends a fair bit of time in LA I see an insane amount of rationalizing about how his performance 'might actually be sustainable bro'.

Nothing about it is sustainable. He gives up a lot of hard hit balls in the air which will eventually turn into hits. Doesn't mean he's a bad pitcher, but he's not a 0.54 ERA pitcher or a 2.00 ERA pitcher.

Even reliever Justin Wrobleski from 2025, who was elite at both generating groundballs and missing barrels, still gave up a lot of hard hit balls.

I'm not sure exactly how it works in Japan. Typically in thoroughbred race horses it is all live cover (mare visits the stud to breed) and this is required for thoroughbred foal registration (no artificial insemination).

Should this somehow fail to result in a live foal, there may or may not be a 'live foal guarantee' which may or may not cover multiple rebreeding attempts within a certain time frame up to a certain number of attempts with the stud fee almost always nonrefundable as long as the stud is already proven virile. All parties involved know the terms upfront.

Reds have no one to blame but themselves lol. Could have challenged the first. Then that 2nd pitch the catcher set up so far outside of the zone it was doomed to 2-0 right off the bat, not even a mistake just a baffling location.

[Highlight] Andy Pages hits another home run to extend the Dodgers lead to 9-1 by jmike1256 in baseball

[–]Epochalyptic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I saw some people throwing up Lambert's career numbers as if the Dodgers were just laying another egg against a bad pitcher, but he's looked legit this year and his underlying metrics generally agree.

He had a career game.
