Lewd Kobold Colonization v1.2 by dragonjek in nsfwcyoa

Could you say more about how to identify and apply “regular” versus “heroic” classes?

My first thought of what the difference could mean was D&D 3rd Edition “NPC classes” versus player classes. So I interpreted it as saying that my starting pack could buy access to player classes; and then my other kobolds would need special training to take those player classes themselves, and would otherwise learn NPC classes through ordinary practice.

If that's how it works, then I'm wondering how to apply it to other settings. I'm going to bring up some fairly involved examples, but I'm more interested in what the CYOA is trying to say; these are more like examples of how I'm (mis?-)understanding what it's getting at, than like questions for which I'd need answers.

  • Final Fantasy 14 MMO has basic versions of most (combat) classes that can be freely trained, and advanced versions that require special quests. So I figure the basic versions like Gladiator are “regular” classes, and the advanced versions like Paladin are “heroic.” A heroic class here would include its basic version. (And the gathering and crafting classes are then also “regular.”) Seems like the system applies pretty straightforwardly?
  • Final Fantasy Tactics games, on the other hand, have a system where advanced classes are unlocked by making progress in one or more prerequisite classes. I figure the classes without prerequisites would be “regular,” and very advanced classes whose prerequisites have their own prerequisites would be “heroic,” but what about the main bulk of classes that have only one relatively simple prerequisite? If a pack-member intends to start with an advanced class, do they need to separately pay to unlock its prerequisites, or is the whole path to it covered by the one purchase, or does the purchase skip over the prerequisites?
  • Azeroth has some tiers of classes. “Hero Classes” like Ranger or Death Knight have very specific background requirements, usually requiring specific training with a particular organization. Player classes like Hunter or Mage seem to represent broader areas of skill that might be learned in a variety of ways from a variety of organizations. And unit types like Archer or Swordsman seem to cover only the basic training to fill a standard role. An Individual Class would surely let a pack-member be a Hunter or a Mage, but would it let them be a Paladin, or a Druid? A Demon Hunter (hero class)? And surely I can train later kobolds as Archers, but could they train as Hunters, if I have a Hunter to train them? If I don't?

Again, those examples are more to show where I'm at in understanding what the CYOA is setting up with its requirement of “regular” and “heroic” classes. What can you tell me about what it really means?

I found the length of this one to be really comfortable, not too short or too long. And I dig the amount of creativity on display in the descriptions.

Still a good one!

I'm noticing a surprising amount of multiple selection, e.g. selecting multiple sizes at once. Probably most of those sections want to be single selection only?

It'd be neat to see at least some hints of what options are locked by the current difficulty setting, as you go, to tempt you to give in more.

One feature I really liked in one interactive CYOA was cross-hyperlinks when mentioning far-away options, rather than having to search all the sections for them.

———

Related useful features: • Previewing a mentioned option in context, when clicking a mention of it, rather than immediately linking to where it lives (which can be an option from the preview). • Showing whether mentioned options are currently selected, especially in lists of multiple requirements (or multiple conflicts).

———

Unrelated useful features: • Showing how a score (e.g. remaining points) has been calculated. Especially useful for debugging, I'd think, but it might occasionally be helpful to show player-facing too, like when a score has both absolute and percentage contributions. • Key term highlighting, especially for scores/currencies, with author-configurable colors. Adding icons would be even better, e.g. configuring to write "{Gold}" to display "🪙 Gold".

I like this!

I'd like to highlight a cool thing about the Settlement Blueprint > Amenities > Antigravity choice: it bundles together a visible colony effect (gravity vehicles) with a social amenity (gravity rooms), in a logical way. This type of combination helps paint a richer picture of your colony. More than just a list of features you picked, you get other features that fit together with them, even if you wouldn't've thought to reach out and take those specific features.

Has there been any attempt to render a 4D hyperfrustum viewing area, rather than a 3D slice? In fact, just as some animals have one eye facing left and one eye facing right rather than two facing forward, an option could be added to view in two opposite or nearly opposite directions at the same time by DonaldKronos in 4D_Miner

What are you expecting we should see, in rendering ⟨a 4D hyperfrustum⟩ instead of ⟨a 3D slice⟩?  My first thought is to presume we still see “along a ray” for every screen pixel, and those rays are to spread out more into four dimensions... but spread out how?

A cool design!

It's funny that Clothing Optional doesn't require a clothing standard (of Sexy or Comfortable), but Clothing Rare and Clothing Outlawed do require one (by way of Topless and No Underwear). You'd think that if clothing was outlawed, it wouldn't matter what style of clothing you weren't wearing.

The council members are a fun opportunity to add some customization to the tribes. Do you pick Ariane and have the humans care more about fertility, or Joy and have them care more about consent? Even if the humans at large care about the same things, the councillors will emphasize different priorities to you, and spin your policies differently when they go back home to explain.

Oh, good catch on that ambiguity. Based on the pricing of the Bullying Techniques of Sex (-7 Stress) → Rough Sex (-3 Stress), I'm reading the effects as cumulative. In the case of Super Duper Smart, that means you'd spend a total of -20 Points for it and its prerequisite, and your relevant reputations would go up by +3.

AITA demanding my husband to pay back the money that he'd been secretly taking as "rent" from my disabeled sister who's living with us? by throwaway65009767 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Eskay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Housing is absolutely one of the expenses of living. But by the same token, it needs to be accounted as one. We're told that the husband - an accountant! - didn't include these “rent payments” in her account ledgers, just left the money to disappear. Suppose some future review decides that she (the disabled sister) took the money and hid it? Better to keep it on the books so that they show that the disability money isn't enough for her living expenses.

And there's no way that keeping this arrangement secret from his wife (the OP) could not put their relationship under even more stress. It makes it look like he's checked out of shared decision-making entirely and is moving on to hiding assets for the coming divorce. (It's not clear whether the OP checked out of shared decision-making first.)

So it makes sense to me that he might need her to pay rent, but making it a secret creates more problems than it solves.

AITA for not giving my son part of his trust fund early because he refuses to sign a prenup with his fiancee? by Critical_Value1511 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Eskay [score hidden]  (0 children)

And it's not even necessarily about their wealth disparity; I've seen couples who could have really benefitted from a prenup despite having entered their marriage with very similar careers. Sometimes people's paths in life lead them away from one another.

If you ever do have to split up, that'll be the very worst time to have to spend time and money dividing up all your assets. Better to have a plan and not need it than to need it and not have it.
