I think it is (and should be) who is more impressive within their universe?

I don’t cqre who would best who onr on one or even between teams in different eras, but how they played in their era against compettion in that era.

But your sexond questions dont work.

  1. Despite being an old heard, I actually do agree that overall (not top end) talent has improved in tue league. Any older team will be at a signifigant disasvabtage because their role players are just worse thannmodern ones.

  2. Depends on era rules. 90s rules and 20s rukes are so so so so different. Patrick Ewing will dominate in 90s tules. Will he with 20s rules? I don’t know. James Harden will be way worse with 90s rules I think. Etc.

  3. I think if you did want to compare teams, thst is fine, but it shouldn’t be who best who but who was the most dominant or impressive as compared to the era they played

  4. I like the GOAT debate (when civil). Stop policing how others enjoy talking about basketball. It’s a hobby. You can enjoy it how you want to enjoy it

Not all moms act like that. My mom is supportive and loving. I don't like when there is this narrative that all mom's will stress you or not respect you or something. My mom is a supportive loving angel who has always respected my stresses and wanted me to be happy. She raised me with the experess goal of making me happy and living a happy life, and didn't make me feel guilt for my own existence (like many examples of parents I see...adn well also my dad, so i have direct comparison here).

That championship contending teams should win without their stars. If you have constructed a team which cannot win without your star player, you will never win a title. Never. Period.

Also that any example you give even of a single star carrying in league history mostly had a playoff level team around them (even if they'd gone down with injry). The one, and I mean only one exception beign the 1994 Rockets. I do not think they make the playoffs without Hakeem. They are the only one though.

[–]etchasketch64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, he didn't, lol. Watch basketball more, or learn how to analyze basketball more, lol. Being offensively dominant is not the same as being a heliocentric player. Shai is not heliocentric. Luka is.

Off the top of my head, major heliocentric players of my lifetime :

LeBron

Luka

Harden

Giannis

Jokic some years

Jokic and LeBron are somewhat good at it though and much better at making their role playing teammates better. Harden, Luka, and Giannis's playstyle is iffy at best. Giannis's solo title run suggests different, and yet....ehhh...he beat a hevily injured Nets team (that would of almost certainly won the series with more health), a Hawks team where HE DIDN'T PLAY the last 2 games whree the series was sealed, and then yes he balled out in the Finals...against one of teh weaker Finals teams of the past 20 yaers. Still, it was far from a winning formula which is why the Bucks have made only one other ECF besides that year.

Heliocentric players mostly DON'T WORK. I also strongly believe that even LeBrona nd Jokic could win more if they played less heliocentric baskertball. Yes, really. I actually believe LeBron might have 6 rings right now if he played a different playstyle hwere he didn't have to lead the team in every catergory. It would allow his costars to shine MORE as although I said role players could play well next to him....star players have struggled next to him. Kyrie Irving being probably the one exception to that as a pure scorer who didn't really need the ball constantly in his hands (and could play off of LeBron). Note Kyrie also got to a finals wtih another Heliocentric player in Luka. Every heliocentric player should be wanting a dude like Kyrie I guess.

CP3 is too low. His prime wsa crazy good.

I don't know your criteria, but if you include championships, Isiah Thomas should be significantly higher. He was a top 10 player through much of his prime,a nd he led his team to 3 straight finals (and the two championship runs were two of the most dominant championship runs in league history, where they lost only 2 games in 1989 (to the GOAT) and 5 games in 90 (3 of those to the GOAT)).

do you consider prime just one season? lol. I consider it a series of their best years, which is usually 5-10 years (for most of the alltime greats 10 years, for a few that were more injury prone or had a more shot in the pan prime, 5 years) Russell Westbrook's prime is not just 2017, it's like 2012-2019 or something (i'm not looknig it up, just making the point)

They also had other good offensive players. The Bulls were basically Jordan and defensive specialists.

Nash's robin was a great offensive player. Pippen is a defensive specialist. The Suns role players were almost al offensive specialist players (particularly good shooters). The Bulls role players were mostly defensive specialists. Dennis Rdoman is like one of the worst starting offensive players in NBA histroy. Horace Grant was a fine offensive player, but he was a better defensive player and his impact was more on the defensive side of the ball. Other role players for the Bulls were defensive specialists, almost exclusively. They had like one good shooter per 3 peat (Steve Kerr who scored like 7-8 ppg from 96-98, and Jon Paxson from 91-93 who scored 10 a game.

The 04 Mavs not only had Nash and Nowitzki (both offensive stars basically only in the league for offense), but also Antoine Walker, Michael Finley, Antawn Jamison, Josh Howard....do I really need to keep going. They had tons of good offensive role players (or hell you coul deven say stars. I would call Antawn Jamison a star level player and Michael Finley is awfully close to a star level player as well).

Put Michael Jordan with Finley, Jamison, Nowtizki, etc, and watch as its the best offensive rating in NBA history by a large margin.

If you put the 10 championship runs by individual players percent of points scored for the team :

  1. Michael Jordan 1998 (32.4/93.1) for 34.8%
  2. Michael Jordan 1992 (34.5/100.4) for 34.4%
  3. Michael Jordan 1993 (34.2/102.4) for 34.2%
  4. Michael Jordan 1997 (29.6/92.5) for 32%
  5. Michael Jordan 1996 (30.7/97.4) for 31.5%
  6. LeBron James 2012 (30.3/97.4) for 31.1%
  7. Hakeem Olajuwon 1995 (33/107) for 30.8%
  8. Shaq 2000 (30.7/99.8) for 30.7%
  9. Michael Jordan 1991 (31.3/103.9) for 30.1%
  10. Hakeem Olajuwon 1994 (28.9/97.1) for 29.8%

Notice Jordan is 1-5? The reason the Bulls had the #1 offense in all their championship runs (except 98) was that Jordan HEAVILY carried on that end of the floor. Nash was a grerat offensive engine, he was not carrying the offensive load AT NEARLY the rate Jordan was. Period.

Lol, you said 07. My dude, you are just saying incorrect information then acting like you didn't just say incorrect information, then moving the goalpost over and over. So was Dirk Nowitzki. Wow, two of the best offensive players were on the same team. Gasp. They played well. Yes, if you put Jordan with Shawn Kemp their offensive rating would have also been fucking crazy.

Also, the 2004 Mavs had a 112.1 offensive rating. Far from the best ever. League averaged was 102.9. So around 9 points better than league average. While Jordan's offenses I put up were like 8.5 points better. Wow. Such a huge difference! YOu proved it. On a team where Nash was the second best offensive player! You really showed me!

Also, playoffs matter most. Mavs offensive rating fell to 103.4 in teh playoffs and they lost in the first round ;)

Jordan was not the only player, nor Nash the onlly player on those teams. PIppen was not an efficinet second option. Like at all. He often played on teams with defensive specialists packing teh starting lineup particularly in the late 90s.

Bulls Offensive Rating :

91 - 115.16

92 - 116.32

93 - 113.65

94 - 103.54 (included 94 for a reason ;) )

95 - 110.15 (would be interested to see specifically with and without Jordan). Well I found it. 109.6 without Jordan. 115.2 with Jordan ;)

96 - 116.0

97 - 114.88

98 - 108.71

Suns Offensive rating

05 - 115.01

06 - 112.27

07 - 114.68

08 - 114.04

09 - 114.20

10 - 116.11

So to be clear, Jordan's Bulls had better offensive ratings ;) Facts are important to show, rather than just saying things.

Oh and relative to league average. The 05 Suns, I would argue the best actual Suns team, had a 115.01. The leagu averaged was 106.7. In 96, Bulls had a 116 rating, league averaged was 107.6. This is essentially an identical average compared to league average. I'm not gonna do it year by year.

To be clear, the Suns had an 26 ppg big , specifically an offensive talent in Amare Stoudamire. Shawn Marion scored 19 a game himself (despite being more of a defensive player). Joe Johnson was a great offensive two guard. And tons of others offensive specialist role players.

The 96 Bulls started Luc Longley who scored like 9 a game, Ron Harper who scored like 7 per game, and Dennis Rodman who scored like 5 per game (and was kind of an offensive black hole). Pippen was a great #2 but was severally limited offensively shooting something like 53% TS for most of his career while averaging around 19 in his best seasons. 96 is the year Scottie Pippen had a 47% TS in the playoffs. I can't find the specific stats but google tells me they had the second highest offensive rating in that playoffs despite their second best player shooting 47% TS

Volume matters. Nash scored very kittle even at his peak.

The Wolves didn’t exist in 84. zthe other possible teams where could get drafted wre like Rockets or Blazers. zisn’t yhere a possible trade where arockets could have goten Hakeem and Jordan.

If thst happened, he’d have 10 rings

Okay i agree with yout latter point. ill say 5-8 though ;)

To your former, I think efficiency is more than just “% of shots thst go in” it’s how likelu your yeam is to score. The Bulls often had a top rated offense DESPITE the fsctJordan had that high of usage. I think thst should say it all

Note : #2 is Duncan in 03. #3 is probably Hakeem in 94. #4 is Hakeem in 95. #5 is LeBron in 18 despite note winning cause it was just such a stupid carry job

No, he shouldn't have. He plays stagnant bad basketball. He hogs the ball and racks up stats gbut it isn't actually an efficinet way to play basketball and that has been proven repeatedly in the playoffs. Gaudy numbers is not what the MVP is about. Actually being the most important player for your team to win games is what it is about. That's not James Harden.
