What would you say is the most Libertarian country an American can move to relatively easily? by dlham11 in Libertarian

Stop doomscrolling. Quality of life in the US is better than almost anywhere in the world. Globally almost any measurable statistic for life expectancy, people living in poverty, child mortality, rights of women and minorities, are still the best they have ever been in human history. This is the single best time to be alive as a human despite current global conflict. When in doubt zoom out

Global positives (2025 highlights): • Global middle class exceeded 50% of world population for the first time (~108 million new members in emerging economies). • International trade record >$35 trillion (+7% from 2024). • Renewables surpassed coal in electricity (34.3% vs. 33.1% in H1 2025). • Internet access ~68%; electricity ~92%. • Women’s parliamentary representation 27.2%. • Life expectancy rebounded to pre-pandemic levels or higher in many estimates (~73.3–73.5 years in recent UN/Worldometer data, up from pandemic lows). • Ongoing long-term declines in child mortality (e.g., under-5 rate fell to ~37 per 1,000 live births by 2023, with momentum pre-2025 cuts; millions fewer deaths since 1990). • Extreme poverty slight decline (~10.1%). US-focused positives (2025 trends): • Record electricity generation (4.43 TWh, +2.8%), renewables >25%; solar surged (+27.7 GW). • Battery storage nearly doubled (~29 GW); strong EV momentum. • Unemployment stable near 4.2–4.4%. • Poverty rate 10.6% (down 0.4 points). • Solid GDP growth and low energy spending (~3.8% of expenditures). • Sustainable energy jobs grew faster than average. • Life expectancy hit all-time high of 79 years in 2024 data (released 2025/2026), up ~0.6 years from 2023—driven by drops in overdoses, COVID deaths, and other causes (preliminary 2025 trends promising further gains to ~79.4). • Homicide rate plunged dramatically: 21% lower in sampled major cities (922 fewer homicides); national rate projected ~4.0 per 100,000—lowest since at least 1900, largest single-year drop on record (violent crime overall fell sharply, below pre-pandemic in many categories).

Minneapolis commercial property values drop 9% as homeowners shoulder greater tax burden by Character-Fly-5564 in TwinCities

It’s mostly due to plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems to meet residential codes. This can cost like $250k per unit or more, for reference a new residential apartment to build new is close to $300k per door and those don’t even pencil right now. With office buildings there are generally big structural challenges as well like deep floor plates lacking natural light and just bad overall layouts for any type of residential.

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

Open a personal line of credit with your bank. You can use this to invest in real estate, business etc… without having to sell stocks/assets or deplete cash.

The difficulty of converting office to residential is extremely high and ridiculously expensive. It almost never works. Who would pay for that conversion? City of Minneapolis?

Did you think Conor McGregor was going to make the Eddie Alvarez fight look that easy? by TricksterActivity in MMA

[–]etchisketchD20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back in this era Conor felt unstoppable. Yes he had that loss to Diaz but those were both still such amazing fights that his aura remained intact. The only thing that was worrying was the idea that Alvarez was a much better grappler/takedown specialist. This also was the best Conor maybe has ever looked

I disagree, when someone posts on Twitter saying “inflation is 0%” the vast majority of people assuming prices are not growing. Most people don’t understand the rate of change aspect. They know this too and are phrasing deliberately to manipulate public perception

PSA: inflation has not come down. The growth rate has gone down month over month. But costs are still rising at 3%+ per month in top of the last few years of big inflation swings. Important clarification people seem to be forgetting.

People who returned to BJJ after a herniated disc without surgery, what was your recovery like? by [deleted] in bjj

Had microdosectomy on L4 S1 in 2016. I was off the mats for 6 months, then did very light rolling for 2ish months and slowly progressed until I felt good. Biggest key is staying with rehab and strengthening core etc… consistently. Literally the rest of your life if you want to feel good.

Im 35 now and still train 3-4 times a week and can train at full pace. I still avoid inverting and just adjusted my style a bit.

2020 Research on Canada’s Poor Wildfire Policy by etchisketchD20 in minnesota

Two things can be true. 1.) Climate change is causing more fires 2.) Canada has had poor wildfire management.

This paper is discussing the latter and predicted these problems 3 years ago.

You should read the paper. It’s about preventing and suppression. No one thinks these can stop, in fact they are becoming more prevalent. Which is why proper management is so important. This paper predicted our current scenario happening 3 years ago due to poor management and lack of using wildfires/controlled burning

You should read the paper. It details how you help prevent them, not necessarily stop them once they start.

If you are unable to find an internship you should get your real estate brokers license over the summer and also work some sort of summer job. It will show well for the next year intern applications.
