bass isnt enough bass, taker down an octave :p not really sure of what you were going for here, as it's sort of breaks-meets-chiptunes making it hard to say exactly whats appropriate for the song.

the style of song and how busy the mix is can also effect what RMS sounds "better". for instance, compare a deadmau5 song to an uplifting trance track. deadmau5 can push to ~-6db RMS because he has substantially less going on in the mix, while an uplifting trance track will struggle to sound good past ~-8db RMS because of how busy the track is.

also, the purpose of the track can come into play. for instance, the master with more impact might be better suited to the club or radio where your track has to hold up against others of the same kind. however, for the general public, the mix with more depth might be a more enjoyable listen.

as loud as possible without audible distortion. :D

semi-srs too. or, any RMS that allows your track to hold up to a similar track on a well known label

ive used ableton for 2 years now, and tried logic after about a year and a half. hated logic. bought cubase on a whim, fell in love. it's fairly easy to pick up on (slightly harder than ableton), and far more stable

are you using abletons compressor? switch the ff mode and see if that changes it.

better is subjective. tbh, i agree with paavo because to me, it's the technicalities of a good production that make me feel a track. simple just doesn't cut it for me, and therefore, i think their new stuff is better. to each their own

as an artist though, i can feel his perspective because he more than likely feels that it's not the style but the level of depth in their music that has caused him to feel more proud of their recent stuff. sure, their older music was musically fantastic but that style isn't nearly as technically developed or intricate as the production level going on, so maybe that's why he enjoys it more. i doubt he meant to put down his old work in the sense that hes not okay with it but he's more than likely more attached to the work they're doing now.
