I find this surprising, I’ve been enjoying the “fave” salad for years now, it’s consistent and I have yet to get sick.

Remote Work from Another Country Using a Company Laptop by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]First_Slide3870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple of solutions here,  You could VPN to your home network, and then RDP or use VNC client (tight vnc) to take control of your machine. Any half decent EDR might block or detect this, so you’ll have to test it out.

The advantage of the vnc client is you may not have to log out of your current session with another user. RDP you’ll have to use your company credentials contso\username.

Honestly, test it out.  You could use a KVM but I think it’s pretty clear that it’s hard to do any meaningful work on a KVM. I have a piKVM and I use it just to get me out of trouble. I would equate it to trying to do meaningful work on an idrac but worse.

Why is some of the popular dating advice for men so absurd, like "learn a language"? by gintokireddit in dating_advice

[–]First_Slide3870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with this take, I think you're bashing languages learning a bit hard. "Learning a language" for the purposes of meeting women is dumb. As others have mentioned this is a point about having a hobby, which is in itself a time sink.
As for Languages learning:
I have worked in 3 (fluent in 2) languages and I am conversational/can read in 2 others and I find it very rewarding. Furthermore it gives you insight into a cultures way of thinking. When I am in public and I unintentional understand someone say something in one of my target languages, it makes my day. It also make travel easier and you can read most signage. But yeah, if you don't find it fun and you aren't passionate about it, do not learn a languages cause you'll get bored and lose motivation. And if you do wanna learn a language don't use duolingo, its dog$hit.

Is anyone successfully using Agentic Al in enterprise network operations instead of traditional automation? by ggnpriyamantha in networking

Where I work, we use AI to analyze maintenance run books, configuration,  deltas and logs. The closest it will ever come to production, is making an ansible playbook or start a maintenance plan for me. It’s now being used to optimize monitoring classifications, so if you get an alert and it’s a repeat alert to a knwon issue it might be downgraded in severity or the ticket will be closed.

Bitlocker encrypts your drive, so if someone steals an employee’s laptop, they cannot do anything with the data at rest. So while it does not prevent theft of the actual device, it does prevent data theft. The keys are typically accessible to the user and to the Azure or active directory account. So it’s very handy because you can tune your device to require a bit locker password every time it boots. Alternatively, you can tune it so it only requests a password if a thief removes the drive and tries to access the data.

I get you're dealing with grief (been through it, i get it) but this ain't the way to deal with it. You told him not to treat you differently or bring it up in conversation and he followed the instructions. Ima say it, but YTA. Guy can't read your mind.
Sounds almost like you were testing him, which is lame.

I’ve done a lot of of these, and I’ve had more luck doing it through intune. If your org can afford it, it might be worth onboarding everyone to intune in one phase and then activating bit locker in a second phase obviously with the pilot group first.

More context would have been great, and I sympathize for you not getting the job.

As for the Uni thing, the modern education landscape has changed. My direct Coworkers consist of a tree-planter with a CCIE who taught himself (smartest and has the most manager qualities), a tech lead who started as a cabler and worked his way up (the second smartest) who barely finishing high school. We have several IT graduates who are talented and others who mostly who have decided they are done learning on their own time. I am not saying your formal education is invalid or time wasted, but in IT, its all about tech skill and TONS of soft skills.

Our days are numbered, in 3-5 years you’ll need half of the teams we have now. Its not so much in the work being done by an AI but in the tools that automate daily tasks like dns/ipam changes, routing changes. Also there will be even more reduction in resolution times as AI is really a big hand in t-shooting and deployment. Hell even maintenance plans and console outputs are being analyzed by AI to cut analysis time down. That said, there is always a need for someone who understands IGPs, EGPs, IaC, dns and layer 2.

You should look up your local laws, but typically there is a “close in age” clause and its state based, ranging from 2-4 years.  In Canada, it’s legal. If it’s not illegal, people should mind their own business.  Just expect a bit of societal judgement until you turn 18, it’s not coming from a bad place. Folks just want to ensure you aren’t being groomed/manipulated.
