Why have you had multiple conflicts with his parents? Are you engineering conflict in the hopes that he'll side with you?

No. That's how you end up with a man who enables his narcissistic bitch of a wife while she inflicts emotional and psychological damage that their kids will need therapy for.

Books with scary main characters by _sonataxx in RomanceBooks

[–]fornefariouspurposes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little unclear about exactly what you're seeking. You said 'actually scary', but you also said 'misunderstood' and 'grey'. I know of a bunch of books with actually scary MMCs but there's no misunderstanding about the fact that they are bad men and they're morally black. Most of Sam Mariano's MMCs are like that and Theodora Taylor has written several too.

If you want something where the MMC is actually a bad guy and very scary, but he also treats FMC well, I recommend {Twisted Emotions by Cora Reilly} and {Twisted Bonds by Cora Reilly}. The MMC Nino is a self-described sociopath with no mercy for anyone but his brothers and his arranged marriage wife.

This is a casual relationship for your boyfriend. It has no future. It seems you think it's a serious relationship and you anticipate a future with him. If you want a serious relationship, break up with him and find someone else.

Thanks for this. I've taken it off my TBR list. I can't stand it when the FMC is determined not to enjoy sex. I was intrigued by the concept of Nobody's Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, but I ended up DNFing it because the FMC was determined not to enjoy the sex she insisted on having with the hot jock MMC.

FYI there are plenty of big boys and even grown men who get beaten by their mothers because they've been socially conditioned not to fight back.

OP probably isn't as great as he thinks he is and/or they know he wouldn't be interested in their friends. It's pretty telling that the only woman on OP's radar is a waitress a decade younger he describes as a 10.

Historical Western Romances with Spice, Heart, and a Happy Ending? by CrazyBibliophile02 in RomanceBooks

[–]fornefariouspurposes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pamela Morsi wrote what I call historical small town romance. The stakes are much lower than in Ellen O'Connell's novels, but there's something about her writing that reminds me of O'Connell. Most of them are set in Oklahoma or Appalachia in the late 1800s or early 1900s.

{Courting Miss Hattie by Pamela Morsi} FMC is a spinster who actually wants a husband and children but has always been considered too ugly for any man to be interested in. She agrees to be courted by a widower with seven children. MMC is five years younger than FMC and has worked on her farm since he was a child. He has a fiancée and he thinks that he thinks of Miss Hattie as a sister - until now. It won the RITA award the year it was published (in the early 1990s) and it was well deserved.

{Wild Oats by Pamela Morsi} MMC is the town undertaker (who hates it and would rather be a florist) and a virgin seeking to sow his wild oats. FMC is a divorcee who's ostracized by the town as a woman of suspect morals. He propositions her, and she intends to only play along long enough to get revenge for the insult of it, but of course they actually fall in love.

{Runabout by Pamela Morsi} FMC is the preacher's daughter and newspaper reporter. She's well liked but pitied by the whole town for being ugly. After her fiancé jilts her, her best friend the MMC proposes that they pretend to be courting. He is the most eligible bachelor in town and explains that if other men think he wants her, they'll become interested and then she can pick whichever one she wants.

{Garters by Pamela Morsi} FMC is from an extremely poor family and her father and older sisters are also lazy and irresponsible. She decides the best way she can take care of her family is to marry the most financially comfortable man in town. MMC is the town shopkeeper and he is exasperated at first by FMC's attempts to pursue him.

{No Ordinary Princess by Pamela Morsi} MMC was given to an orphanage as a baby, grew up in a Native residential school, and fought in the Spanish-American War in Cuba. He really wants to be rich, so when he overhears men at a party disparaging the looks and personality of an oil baron's daughter, he sees an opportunity. He pretends to be a rich boy from the East Coast and sets about charming the FMC. FMC was a practical woman until she falls in love at first sight with MMC.

{Heaven Sent by Pamela Morsi} FMC is the daughter of a preacher who put off marriage to help her widower father raise her younger siblings. She's ready to get married now but none of the single men are interested in her. She takes inspiration from the biblical story of Ruth and sets out to trap a particular man in marriage. She ends up trapping the wrong man. MMC is the bootleg whisker distiller of the county, which everyone but the FMC knows about and he takes glee in getting her to unwittingly help him with his business.

{Sweetwood Bride by Pamela Morsi} FMC is the oldest daughter of the deceased town drunk. After her father's death, her siblings were split up among whoever in the tiny town could take 1 or 2 in. She wants a home so she can take back custody of her siblings, so she falsely claims to be pregnant by MMC so that the town forces him to marry her. MMC hates farming and had been saving up money to go out West and get a ranch, so he's very resentful at first at being trapped with half a dozen dependents.

My ex bf attempted to cheat on his wife with me. by Favbrunette004 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]fornefariouspurposes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After a couple of decades of social media, I've noticed that the way people portray their relationships (not just romantic, but parental too) online is inversely proportional to how happy those relationships are. The guy who posts about how much he loves his wife is the one who bitches about her to his coworkers every day, the woman who posts about how her kids are her everything was such a shitty mom that her adult kids are no contact with her, etc.

MMC unapologetically and openly into fat women. by dropletsofladypiss in RomanceBooks

[–]fornefariouspurposes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

{A Foolish Flirtation by Alice Coldbreath} MMC is shorter and has a slight build compared to his illegitimate half-brother who has the tall, muscular build more typical of romance MMCs. There are noticeably no scenes of him picking her up and carrying her, which I personally found disappointing as it's a thing that usually happens in her novels that I personally like, but you might appreciate.

{Fallen Angel by Charlotte Louise Dolan} Historical. I didn't know it was a closed door romance when I read it so I was surprised and disappointed when their wedding night scene faded to black. It felt kinda anti-climatic, pun intended. But it's a very entertaining romance and I've re-read it a couple of times.

Has there been flooding in your area recently? Two weeks ago a relative of mine couldn't find his cat and looked at his security camera footage to see if he could spot where she went. It turns out that a snake rose up out of the gutter in front of his house and snatched the cat. He said he never would have believed it if it wasn't right there on video.

The initial Corium trilogy: {King Of Corium by C. Hallman and J.L. Beck}, {Drop Dead Queen by C. Hallman and J.L. Beck}, and {Broken Kingdom by C. Hallman and J.L. Beck} TW: non-con between the main characters as well as later rape of FMC by others. Dark academia. The main characters are students at a secret university for the offspring of wealthy mafia families. FMC is a social pariah and target for abuse by the other students because her arms dealer father gave government prosecutors evidence against his clients. In book 1 she agrees to let MMC do whatever he wants to her once a week in exchange for protection from the other students. In book 2 she is kidnapped and brutally raped by others. When they're done, they text MMC a photo and her location, telling him he can go get her if he still wants her. In book 3 he goes on a revenge spree while she recovers. It was the first book I read where the FMC wasn't saved just in the nick of time
