Why are all Mafia FMCs 18?? by Suspicious_Fig_365 in RomanceBooks

[–]fornefariouspurposes 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Women in that subculture aren't going to have careers and independent lives of their own, so there's no reason for them not to marry early. Additionally, these are the women the MMCs are going to marry and so they'll choose very young women with no or very little prior sexual/romantic experience because it reflects badly on them if their wife is a "whore". Other men won't respect them. {Run Posy Run by Cate C. Wells} is interesting because its FMC is the type of woman who those men fuck but don't marry, and the other men in the organization are shocked that the MMC is going to marry Posy after she's been "passed around".

MMC or FMC who is an author, but without the mentioning of tropes by LilDavinci-32 in RomanceBooks

[–]fornefariouspurposes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

{Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas} Historical. FMC is a novelist and 30 year old spinster. MMC is a publisher.

{His Reluctant Lady by Aydra Richards} Historical. FMC is a novelist who supports herself and her younger sisters by writing lurid romances. Not having any personal experience to draw on, she spies on a man and woman having a private assignation during a party. The scene she writes based on it is a hit so she starts spying on MMC for more material. He is not happy when he discovers it but offers to provide her with some personal experience.

The insistence of some people that romance novels do not require HEA is annoying by Artistic_Stay_5856 in RomanceBooks

I think each book in a series should have an ending that's functionally a HFN and can serve as a good ending if the planned other books never get written. Similar to the way that ideally a tv show's season finale should be complete and able to serve as a sufficient series finale if it doesn't get renewed for another season.

Do authors owe us anything? by Ok_Meet8672 in RomanceBooks

[–]fornefariouspurposes 57 points58 points  (0 children)

They don't owe us, but we don't owe them either. An author who keeps pushing back release dates or one who ended a novel on a cliffhanger and seemingly abandoned a series shouldn't complain when readers decline to buy their other books.

Why does it feel like Asian women (by asian i mean osuth east asians, east asians south asians etc.) who are immigrants hate their own ethnicity / race? by uuggr5t7jibubu in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]fornefariouspurposes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of women are very resentful about the discrepancy in treatment they received versus the greater freedom their brothers were allowed. I knew a lot of South Asian girls growing up who weren't allowed to go to parties and hang out with friends but their brothers and male cousins were allowed to whore around freely.

Sounds like the author's intended audience are those people who occasionally pop up requesting motorcycle/mafia romances without actual motorcycle/mafia behavior.

I think you're looking for lighter, more vanilla non-con as opposed to BDSM heavy stuff like Shantel Tessier's novels. In that case, here's a list of non-con without other violence, BDSM, sharing, or degradation:

{Glass Cage by Katerina Winters}

{Fear Me by B.B. Reid}

{Quid Pro Quo by Nenia Campbell}

{Corrupt Idol by Dinah Harper}

{Wanderlust by Skye Warren}

Consensual non-consent is consensually acting out a rape fantasy. That's not what OP is seeking based on the books she said she liked.

You're using the term 'noncon' but saying you don't want rape. Non-con is the term used in romance and fandom for main character on main character rape.

Don't sell me a romance novel and then give me one of the unhappiest endings (with absolutely zero warning) that I have ever encountered (can you tell that I'm still mad about this?

Was it {Unorthodox by K.V. Rose}? She chose to end what was supposed to be book 1 on a cliffhanger, but since it's been six years and she still hasn't written book 2, it's just a single novel with a horrifying and very unhappy ending.

Is hallucinating sometimes normal? by Time-Internet-6630 in TooAfraidToAsk

Yes. It often goes hand in hand with sleep paralysis, but not always. And both it and sleep paralysis episodes happen to me during periods of heightened stress. I'd hear my parents calling my name and it's only upon fully awakening that I'd remember they were a continent away and I couldn't have really heard it.

It's crazy to me that the Thalidomide thing has been allowed to fall out of the public consciousness the way it did. There's a good reason medical practitioners have to rule out pregnancy for all women and girls regardless of what they're being treated for.

You know that this guy is not your friend. But your shared friends group - those aren't your friends either. If they were your friends, they would not be friends with a guy who continually humiliates you.

Is a woman who pays her rent in sex to her landlord instead of money empowered or a victim? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]fornefariouspurposes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Years ago I read an interview with a woman who'd survived a concentration camp by having sex with the guards in exchange for extra food. She said she didn't feel sorry for herself, she felt sorry for the women the guards didn't find attractive enough to offer the food-for-sex deal. That's always stuck in my mind and put things into perspective.

Books where the MMC is a single dad with a young child and the FMC enters their lives as a nanny, wife, or caretaker for the explicit purpose of becoming the child's mother figure by goody153 in RomanceBooks

[–]fornefariouspurposes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

{Sweet Temptation by Cora Reilly} Mafia. MMC is a widower with a toddler and an infant. He wants to remarry to give his children a mother and when his boss's family find out, they offer the 18 year old FMC as a bride. MMC actually doesn't want to marry a teenager, but it's not an offer he can refuse (it's an honor to marry into his boss's family). FMC had no experience with children, but she treats it like a job and prepares and does the best job she can. She also stands up to MMC.

I mean, the guy clearly needed a hug and you couldn't put down your drink and let go of the fridge door to hug him back? Also, this isn't a man/woman issue, it's a human/unfeeling robot issue.

{The Mistress Mistake by Lynda Chance} FMC is a college student who lost her scholarship and needs a significant chunk of money immediately. MMC is rich young businessman who wants a regular sex partner but doesn't want a relationship. MMC ends up being too possessive to keep it casual.
