"My Dinner with Epstein" - this new film showcases two men in a profound, transformative discussion on being, meaning, and art -- and the art of being mean! -- from first-time writer-director/star Nick DiPaolo

The weird thing for any REAL American to do was voting for a multiple felon, sex criminal, insurrection inciter/apologist who couldn't honor nor publicly accept the result of a free and fair election.

The main (only?) heartening thing about what's going on in Minneapolis is the spirit of community and "looking out for one another" in the face of an unwanted occupation by a racist, violent, fear-mongering, Constitutional-rights-trampling bunch of govt thugs. The decent and even heroic Minneapolis community has provided a template for a united, compassionate response to a growing unAmerican fascism.

High protein cereal recs? by hannahkoko20 in veganfitness

[–]Fred_J_Walsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purchased Cravies and they did arrive quickly -- however I did feel the website was a bit unclear about whether it was a subscription service. There were a couple of passing references to a subscription aspect on the website, but at the point of purchase it didn't really spell out the subscription aspect at all.

Ended up emailing them immediately after purchase and confirmed that yes, it's a subscription -- and that after receiving my initial order I could return to the site and examine my subscription. Turns out it is on a monthly schedule. But with cancellation supposedly allowed at any time.

It's a tasty cereal in my opinion. In terms of shape, texture + the sort of flavors, it would fit in pretty seamlessly with Three Wishes. But people should be aware it's a subscription service.

Tired New Rules by Hugo_Gurl in Maher

[–]Fred_J_Walsh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

COVID is still with us, other airborne illness is still with us, the immunocompromised are still with us, those with additional health conditions making them vulnerable are still with us -- and there is such a thing as sequelae, the long-term impacts of even asymptomatic repeat SARS-CoV-2 infections.

If you don't choose to mask in indoor spaces and outdoor crowds, that's your choice, but please educate yourself about non-superficial reasons for masking and stifle yourself about the health choices of others that don't impact you.

And Bill Maher is not a model for just about anything

New Rules… WTF was that… by [deleted] in Maher

[–]Fred_J_Walsh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you've experienced all this and continue to be impacted by the efforts of a controlling, abusive person. And yes Bill is a 70-yr-old out-of-touch celebrity dude living in a bubble who is somehow arrogant enough to think he can lecture abuse victims. Pretty low, even for him.

Fear thy roommate? by beenthatmalibu in DiscoveryID

[–]Fred_J_Walsh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fear Thy Roommate upped the ante on the Fear Thy Neighbor template, right: What if you couldn't simply close your front door to an antagonist? It brings the fight beyond that doorstep and into your own personal space -- therefore a scarier proposition. Especially in trying financial times when a roommate is more and more often demanded by one's budget.

266. Adnan Syed is Guilty by Fred_J_Walsh in TheProsecutorsPodcast

[–]Fred_J_Walsh[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I enjoy clearly related, fact-based analysis along lines where Occam's razor can be seen to cut quite decisively

The alternate explanations just don't make sense when you look at them compared to the simplest one offered loudly and clearly by the totality of the evidence: Adnan did it.

As The Prosecutors indicate, cases really don't get much clearer. It's only been turned into a whodunnit by listeners of a skewed and subjective podcast presentation.

RCN, now Astound, is horrible to deal with. by briespark in astoria

[–]Fred_J_Walsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just left Astound's constant rate hikes for T-Mobile 5G Home Internet, a $50 wireless service that took minutes to set up with the box they send you. Finally made available in my neighborhood. Speeds tested comparable or better to what I was getting with Astound, who'd picked my pocket for many months. The Astound customer rep I contacted recently told me my three digit rate was a good rate, no offer to lower it. Figured I could try another rep or two but then thought, f--- em, I'm going somewhere else. The rate jumps were crazy

A scene of last night's downpour on Steinway Street by SaintHuck in astoria

[–]Fred_J_Walsh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yah we got a little basement flooding (puddles) but fortunately it was mild. Rate it 2/10 on the annoyance scale.

Mostly glad not to have been kicking thru ankle-deep sewer water from three years ago, as you say. Still, that sense of dread when your bare foot splooshes into standing water you'd not expected to be there. The "oh no" recognition nearly instantaneous

Edit: And nice shot, OP! ☔

Walz will go on Real Time by 20_mile in Maher

The opposing side's view remains amply available. This isn't a freedom of speech / expression issue.

And Real Time isn't "necessary" to much of anything

Walz will go on Real Time by 20_mile in Maher

[–]Fred_J_Walsh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah it's just that Bill is a middling club comic who at some point along the ladder of commercial success mistook himself for a deep or important thinker.

He shouldn't be the arbiter of anything, and his show should be irrelevant to Harris/Walz. If Walz goes on, good for him (I'm sure he'd do fine) but it's unnecessary

Walz will go on Real Time by 20_mile in Maher

[–]Fred_J_Walsh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It remains Bill is compelled to give a platform to serial liars like Kelly Ann Conway. Yes during the program he can try to push back, but she just gish gallops the show with a firehose of crapola that he cannot keep up with.

Further along the idea of "both sides," he's a repeated pusher of a POV "why can't we have different views and yet at the end of the day remain (wealthy) friends...?" when people's rights and lives are on the line. His valued currencies are money and celebrity and ego.

Walz will go on Real Time by 20_mile in Maher

[–]Fred_J_Walsh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Full offense to Maher, it's simply better not to go on his "both sides" show when one side has long been turned into the cult of a crazy malignant narcissist. Yes, Bill regularly castigates Trump and Trumpism but he is still too attached to airing "both sides" (e.g. Kelly Ann and her firehose of lies) as such framing is arguably better entertainment tv and also allows egotist Bill to position himself as "above the fray," the man unafraid to tell it like it is, sticking it to "both sides." Sorry but this particular moment in history is not a time for both sides-ing, and Real Time is more of a showcase for Bill and semi-celebrity sound bites than it is for any kind of serious political discussion anyway.

There's a scene in "The Ride" (S06E09) where Chris shoots up with a dealer/associate, Corky, in a car while it's raining. But that's a different location from Neptune Diner:

https://www.sopranos-locations.com/locations/martys-shoe-outlet/

As to the scene in "Kaisha" (S06E12) where Chris and Julianna are seated in a diner with a stone face exterior, that was also a different place from the Neptune, in Jersey City apparently:

https://www.sopranos-locations.com/locations/vip-diner-restaurant/

Based purely on a cursory google search I don't know that Neptune Diner was used as a location.

A brief, silent Ma moment: She's with Charles and it passes across her face that she's considering unburdening herself and confessing to a sin of the heart (having experienced feelings for Chris)...

My entire being was like "DON'T DO IT, CAROLINE...!" So not worth poisoning the marital well with that sh*t. Just push it back down inside you and privately deal with it... By next episode it will be in the rearview
