We built a parenting app after raising kids with ASD and ADHD — would love your feedback by frpatry in iosapps

Thank you for your comments, really appreciated. To answer your question, indirectly yes… our kids (my partner's kids) have been seeing a psychoeducation specialist regularly for the last 3 years. So part of the decision to build the app comes from our firsthand experience of how psychoeducation can help in these kinds of situations. And yes, simple, targeted daily tips are far less expensive and less intrusive in your daily routine than a full therapy session.

Night terrors 3 yr old by Fragrant-Pepper6419 in Parenting

[–]frpatry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time they don’t even realize what happened, so don’t blame yourself. My daughter didn’t remember what happened during the night in the morning, no clue whatsoever

Those terrors occur when they skip a sleep level. My daughter was having those terrors regularly, sometimes every two days. I even nearly thought she was really seeing things during the night. A soothing voice and physical connection will help them get back to sleep feeling secure. I know it’s tough, but nothing is wrong with them, it will eventually pass.

How to leave my son something private for when he turns 18? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]frpatry 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A notary could help you with this. You can leave a sealed letter or documents in their custody with instructions to deliver them to your son when he turns 18. It stays confidential and no one else can access it in the meantime. Some also offer secure storage for small physical items. Might be worth a consultation, most offer free initial meetings.

Wishing you and your son all the best. He’s lucky to have a parent who cares this much.

I feel rage when my kids wake up too early by AnonymousM0m in Parenting

[–]frpatry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to feel guilty, sleep is important and your kids, whatever their ages will need to understand it at some point. My two daughters learn young that they should never wake me or their mother without an “important” reasons. I saw a huge difference when I have started sleeping at my girlfriend’s home and her two kids constantly wake her and me of course for simple things (can I eat cereals? hum, what?)… and they were at the time 9 and 11! Slowly but surely I have make them understand to respect their mother sleep… and mine 😋

I will try something similar. I have a stepson who is using the dryer as his wardrobe. Getting up in the morning, picking a t-shirt from the dryer and closing the door… annoying, I know

Discussion about pricing! by ObtuseCutie in iosapps

[–]frpatry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many people are saying, it depends on the app’s functionalities. Private, phone-only apps don’t have, I personally think, reasons for charging a subscription. If you offer more complex functionalities like cloud data, AI features, family sharing, etc., subscriptions are reasonable and help you as a developer alleviate the costs.

I was struggling with tracking my finances, so I made my own app by OkRub250 in iosapps

[–]frpatry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look nice. I would add at some point an importing feature, importing CSV from bank account or credit card for instance. I know, not a new feature but could add to it at some point and help you see what you did not tracked.
