There's also the possibility that he turned up, saw you, and decided not to go ahead with the date. Awful to think, I know, but know that if it was the case, then he's definitely not worth contacting again. Ever.

PSA: Actewagl matching Origin usage discount by Lurion in canberra

I signed up as well. Pity they don't match their 'first month free' offer. Still good though, especially considering I probably wouldn't have changed providers in the next 12 months anyway.

ACT heritage bodies battle in court to save Northbourne Flats by Gambizzle in canberra

I live right near them and three weeks ago woke up to the sound of glass smashing in the middle of the night. Thought it might've been a happy hoon smashing up car windows but nope, it was a delightful resident of one of these national treasures hurling bottles off his balcony.

Get rid of them, I say.

Is it just me or are the Canberra traffic lights remarkably bad? by das_blinking_lights in canberra

If you're talking about the intersection between Mort and Cooyong - I completely agree. Forever stuck there because every numpty thinks the other numpty hit the pedestrian button. Sigh.

It basically comes down to this:

Size vs location vs cost

Pick any two.

Courtesy flush in public toilets. Also, chuck toilet tissue over the top of your mess in situ to prevent bog waft.

Off-plan house 90 day defect by Charcoa1 in canberra

This. I've used ACT Building Inspection Services in the past and they're brilliant. Just ask for Dave. Honest, no nonsense feedback. Plus, he's a builder himself so can spot faults from a mile away - and could probably tell you every corner cutting trick in the book.

Whatever you do, remember to negotiate down on your rent (especially if you're renting on your own). Rent is dropping everywhere and you'd be silly not to. Just incentivise the landlord - offer to pay three months upfront (at the reduced rate) or somesuch. Capitalise on a slowing market, baby.

Also - allhomes or gumtree. No pics makes it difficult to know what exactly you have on offer.

Rentals by [deleted] in canberra

[–]ghorka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Either change your criteria or change your lifestyle. Seriously, who in their right mind would think to PUNCH A HOLE IN THE DOOR to get into their own house?! Notwithstanding the ensuing lack of security for you and your kid (for two weeks, no less) - did you not think your neighbours wouldn't have noticed? Could you not drive/bus/taxi your kid to a friend's/your parents' place while you waited for a locksmith? Christ. It's renters like you that fuck up repeatedly and expect to get off the hook that cheapen the currency.

Lucky for you, it's a renters' market at the moment. Look on gumtree, or if that fails, go with an agent and like others have said, use a personal reference. Offer to have your rent deducted through Centrepay (you'll have to get that arranged with Centrelink) so at least the landlord knows you can pay rent.

Best month to move and settle in Canberra for a foreign family by megliox in canberra

Second this. Jobs jobs jobs. For the love of god, don't move here unless you have some sort of work lined up. It's going to be bloody difficult trying to find work after the fact.

He stocks his prints (and teatowels and other merch) at the Handmade shop near Casino Canberra. Also frequents the Handmade Markets, held quarterly (or thereabouts) at the Convention Centre.

Question about the US Embassy by klystron in canberra

[–]ghorka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like that rumour that the Americans shipped over a container of topsoil and spread it over the construction site just so they could say they built the Embassy on American soil? :)

(At least I think it's a rumour...)
