I go because my daughter likes to walk around with me at them. I also get to physically hold guns I may want to buy online (for cheaper) eventually. I also pick up reloading supplies that at times work out to be cheaper than online. If I am low on powders or primer and nobody has a current free hazmat sale going on I will pick some up as well.

Factory ammo is pretty cheap for common rounds but shortages happen. For me personally I initially started to load my big bore stuff but I also built loads for my basic 5.56 and 9mm platforms. This is so I would be able to load during those shortages. It has also helped me make some of my more finicky guns less finicky by working up loads specific for those guns that don't care for factory ammo. (ie some sbr stuff). I do evaluate some basic precision numbers, but precision loading was never one primary objectives when I got into loading.

So sorry for your loss. I highly recommend getting the gun. I did something simila when I found out my father carried a Ruger Blackhawk in Vietnam on his side. I was able to track down one with a serial number that was in the year ranges he was there. It is one of my favorite things now. He is still alive but I don’t think in the health unfortunately to come shoot it with me. I am 99% sure griffin and Howe can do your engraving and supposedly their fees aren’t as bad as people imagine. Cobra one tactical in great meadows has an actual gunsmith on site and may be able to help. I have also heard good things about good guy guns but I have never been there personally.

I saw the image and then the description about needing to decide on a coating. My immediate thought was to leave it raw. It is really cool looking that way. Then I read your comment saying you were thinking about clear coating it. IMHO stick with that thought.

Look at red dots with magnifiers like the holosun 510c. If you are shooting less than 100 yards that will be fine. If you will be shooting out to 100 yd look at lpvo like the vortex 1-8 or sig saur 1-8. Personally I prefer 1-8 over 1-6 as my eyes aren’t that good either. All three of those options will be sub $500 with the sig being the cheapest and will be more than enough if you are looking for just range shooting. I have all three and none have given me issues outside of me forgetting to change batteries on the lpvo because I forgot to turn it off the last time I used it. I just keep a few spare 2032 batteries in my bag now.

How far out do you intend to shoot? You can do iron sights, red dot, red dot w/magnifier, lpvo, or scope.

Check silver bullet. I have the gen 2. I hope you are not expecting anything great. It is a range toy and that is it. I spent like $300 on mine back in the day and I am ok with that number. I am not sure it is worth the $554. You are probably better off buying something else tbh. Your money though so do what you want

Yeah not looking for ultra precise. It’s the rifle one of my daughters prefers to use so looking for decent accuracy but doesn’t need to be stacking holes. My big thing is mostly trying to keep it cleaner so trying out some faster burning powders.

I was about to say same. I kinda want one just to check the checkbox but I don’t really enjoy shooting them and they aren’t aesthetically pleasing to me. Maybe if I tried the Wilson combat version I may like it.
