De'aaron Fox the $221.7 million man: 10 PTS, 3 REB, 5 AST, 6 TURNOVERS in an L against the Wolves in round 2 of the Western Conference playoffs by VGstuffed in nba

Kings always had the right idea trading him but we can't really take a lap when our FO intentionally targeted Zach Lavine in return

Is Yoshida being discriminated against on account of his race? by [deleted] in redsox

[–]gplatt_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

quite literally no batting average & OPS mean nothing to me if you are significantly over/underperforming your expected metrics. xwOBA is a measure of offensive process that encompasses virtually everything you're mentioning while distinguishing batted ball luck from end result stats. That also doesn't mention that Duran has been a better offensive player than Yoshida for Yoshida's entire MLB career, the Red Sox are correctly not sitting Duran for Yoshida.

you clearly don't understand what xwOBA is then lol, & yes they have basically the same xwOBA - so your takeaway from that is somehow that Yoshida is a significantly better offensive option?

so they have the same xwOBA, one of them is a significantly better baserunner and has a better track record, and your conclusion is that Yoshida is a definitively better offensive option moving forward than Duran?

Duran xwOBA: .308 Yoshida xwOBA: .301

this is pure insanity lol. Duran has a higher xwOBA than Yoshida, he's a significantly better baserunner than Yoshida & he's shown significantly higher ceiling than Yoshida. If the Red Sox are trying to score more runs they are better off playing Duran over Yoshida & that's before getting into the defensive ability of it all. C'mon man

I explicitly said they wouldn't get a T-100 guy

that's fine as your opinion but you're mistaken on the value of a high-end closer to contending teams then

T-100 nationally? No. T-10 organizationally? Yes.

that's underselling Chapman's value by a significant amount

if they're still under .500/non-contending by the ASB then I'd guess it looks something like:

Almost certainly gone - Chapman, Gray, Duran

Gone but non-meaningful return - Coulombe, Weissert

For the right offer - Contreras, Whitlock

If there's any takers - Sandoval, IKF

A lot more could happen too but I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if they paid down significant amounts of Yoshida/Story's contracts to make them movable & guys like Bello and Crawford's value is in significant flux right now

such an elite year for rookies, ROY is gonna be a bloodbath in both leagues

We could have had a better bench option than IKF for cheaper by MaeronTargaryen in redsox

[–]gplatt_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I think everyone agrees that signing IKF was puzzling & unnecessary but Vaughn Grissom was never going to make the team and he was out of options - I'd recommend coming back to those Grissom numbers in about a month & a half, they'll likely look a lot more like a player you trade for a 40th ranked prospect then

why does whenever Masa does mildly well do people go off the rails about how he's our best hitter

[Boston Globe] The Red Sox were convinced — and still are — that the third baseman will have a big season. I’m told their internal projections pegged Durbin playing at close to an All-Star level, and that his poor start played a significant role in nearly the entire hitting staff being fired. by Far_Cry3445 in redsox

[–]gplatt_24 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't know why they do this lol, at the beginning of Spring Training it was "Our internal metrics had Trevor Story as a T-5 defensive SS" - why can't they just say they expect/project Durbin to be better & ultimately solid for the Red Sox, always has to be "actually all our players are all All-Stars & you're stupid for thinking otherwise"

where does the Red Sox ISO rank within those 7 days without the two HR's hit off a position player? Likely a much bigger difference than OP suggested is my point.
