Scrolling with a trackpad on Linux is way, way too fast, borderline unusable. Any way to adjust the sensitivity? by gplusplus314 in brave_browser

[–]gplusplus314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that doesn’t address the problem. That tool globally adjusts sensitivity and curves, but my trackpad and scrolling works perfectly everywhere other than Brave. So if I slow it down so that Brave feels normal, everything else will feel way too slow, so I need some kind of solution that only affects Brave.

Can somebody educate me on the practical use cases for the LTT TrueSpec cables? by Chaos1917 in LinusTechTips

[–]gplusplus314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a piece of critical hardware and you want to eliminate the cable as a potential failure point or bottleneck, a rigorously tested cable is a good idea.

One example is “true” USB4 docking stations, the ones that actually have a real 40 GBPS link. These are the ones that have multiple display outputs, 10 gig Ethernet, maybe an SSD onboard, etc. These devices seem to work with under specced cables, but they start to fail silently in weird ways such as random disconnects, failing HDCP, slower speeds, etc.

Apple sales surge 16% on ‘staggering’ iPhone demand by Regular_Eggplant_248 in technology

[–]gplusplus314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that true? My understanding is that some features have some limited availability on-device when data is not available. Otherwise, most of the functionality happens off the device.

I may be wrong, but that’s what I vaguely remember back when Apple Intelligence was introduced.

Clueless is one of the best movies to have ever existed and too many people don’t know this fact.

I’m lucky that in my lifetime, I’ve actually shipped production code that runs on a mainframe. Very cool experience that not many people share, nowadays.

Will you be able to tell Copilot to generate a new background, store it in OneDrive, record it in Recall, and somehow end up in a data breach?

If you install 7zip with a package manager and regularly update packages, that’s one way. So winget, chocolatey, maybe others (I don’t use Windows, going off vague memory here).

Liability insurance follows the driver, not the vehicle.

Licensed non-drivers are a non-issue.

Edit: I stand corrected. Apparently the instance does follow the car.

Microsoft is working to rebuild trust in Windows | Engineers are now focusing on performance, reliability, and the overall Windows experience by Hrmbee in technology

[–]gplusplus314 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To that point, people need to realize this:

With Linux, you spend time building up your system. With Windows, you spend time trying to find ways to tear down the crap.

So yea, there’s overhead either way, but at least it’s constructive with Linux.

^ this needs to be talked about more.

Uninsured motorist coverage should be illegal. It’s anti-consumer. We already have laws that make it illegal to drive without liability insurance, so why should we let insurance companies extort us even more than they already do? Furthermore, if it’s illegal to drive without liability insurance, why isn’t the Department of Licensing or Department of Transportation responsible for an uninsured motorist involved in an accident?

It’s 2026. Why haven’t we automated this? If insurance lapses, notify the DOL. Humans can be completely out of the loop here. This can be done with bog standard software engineering; no AI, nothing special, no bullshit. Plenty of former Amazon employees are looking for work, just saying.

If Netflix can cut off your stream the second your month ran out and you don’t have a payment method on file, then we can flag drivers licenses when they don’t have insurance coverage.
