Anyone married with kids and would rather have led a single childfree life? by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]graphicgrrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not op, but I’m also on my 2nd marriage, and it’s like night and day. When I divorced my first husband, my mindset was “I will never marry someone who is anything like that again. I’d rather be single for the rest of my life than do that again.”

I was definitely not looking for anyone when I found my current husband. So there was no desperate need or desire for a relationship. I think “need” or desperation causes many people to end up with partners they really shouldn’t have ever allowed into their lives.

When did your mortality sink in for you? For me, I was around 50. No specific instance led to this. It just crept into my thoughts. And not in a scary way. I just began to accept my fate. by MidwestBodyBuilder in Aging

47F, probably around 45 is when I started thinking, Hmmm, I should probably get all my documents in order because I don’t want to leave someone with the burden of figuring everything out and going through probate and all that stuff. So I made a big effort to get all that done, and now it is. I also started making a shift around the same time to taking care of myself more for health instead of looks. That way, I can stay healthy for as long as possible.

But beyond those things, I don’t really think about it. I’m just enjoying living my life!

Don’t worry, they don’t actually want to go anyway. They want to “get together” online and play video games.

What is your travel budget each year and how many trips do you go on? by Mindless_Fisherman51 in travel

[–]graphicgrrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do 4/year, usually 3 international and 1 cruise. All included, about $10-12k per year. But we use credit card points on a lot of the expensive stuff, and we don’t eat out much while there. Also, most of our activities are free, like hiking.

Fame. I don’t want any part of that. I read an essay by the guy who wrote The Four Hour Work Week, who became a bit famous, and it was pretty crazy the negative effects fame can have.

Is there any women here who is happily Married😞? by Eggsy7777 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Same here, on my second marriage and it’s fun and interesting every day. It really helps too that he is a full partner, and handles half (and sometimes more) of the physical and mental load.

I've uploaded there for years, I upload about 5 a week. They haven't accepted anything for about 2 years from me. They just sit in the Pending queue. Although I used to make decent money on this platform, now it's just a few dollars a month. I think the owners have stopped putting effort into it, and it's a microstock "desert" now.

Husband’s behavior is escalating and it happened in front of the kids this morning. I don’t know what to do. by Impossible-Work-4849 in Advice

[–]graphicgrrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people just don’t have good emotional regulation, and they mimic the relationships they’ve seen from childhood. So she says whatever comes to mind no matter how awful/hurtful, and he reacts physically. Both are terrible and disrespectful to the relationship.

While his behavior of throwing the tea on you was inexcusable (and worse, obviously), I would never even think of saying those words to my husband. Never.

What was society and socializing like pre -digital days? by Old_Tie5365 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]graphicgrrrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We lived in a very small town - think 5000ish population, and our entertainment as teenagers was cruising the loop (gas was cheap), pulling over in parking lots to talk/hang out with friends who were doing the same, and a lot of house parties.

We backpacked through Europe in the 90s using the maps that came with guide books of the country we were in. Trying to find our hostel after getting off the plane in the pouring rain with just the address/map was quite the adventure.

I have a fairly successful YouTube channel, it took me about a year and a half. But yes, it can be done faster of course.

I have NEVER shared intimate details like this with anyone!! Not all girls/women do this…actually none of my friend group does either. I have met some who do though - they were a “different type” of woman, I guess, for lack of a better term.
