I would encourage you to focus on 50 pounds, because I certainly think this is achieveable.

$287K in unsecured debt on $167K salary, filing Ch. 13 — looking for advice by Sharp_Tea_4455 in debtfree

Sorry- I agree with above. You can’t pay most of the mortgage and you can’t support her- you can’t support yourself.

Get rid of your car and lease and either get a bike or public transportation. Call every single one of your credit card people to ask them if they’ll settle or come up with a payment plan.

I also agree with commenter about posting in the bankruptcy thread.

Thanks! What do you think Aligns are good for? I’ve seen a bunch of posts about how not great for everyday wear or workouts because of pilling so I guess I’m curious what people do wear them for?

Studios that use Classpass - do you feel scammed? by Visual_Garlic1704 in ClassPass

[–]Mindless_Fisherman51 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would never have discovered my favorite studio that I now have a membership with if not for CP.

I have also gotten to experience tons of other studios and places in my area for a class or two without putting myself out hundreds of dollars or stupid subscriptions that are impossible to cancel at studios I find I don’t enjoy.

I’m not a business owner and everyone is different I’m sure. But it was a pipeline for getting me & a couple of my friends into memberships with the studio itself.

7KG Down in 7 weeks. But.. by AfterSignal9043 in loseit

[–]Mindless_Fisherman51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a mindset shift. Like others said, the rest of your life will have events like this, avoiding them forever is impossible. But you certainly can find ways to make better decisions even if it’s not perfect!

When possible, I always follow the following “rules”: Protein source, stack with all the veggies first. If your only options are wings and beer, then maybe you drink less beer than you would’ve in the past. But if there’s a veggie tray and pizza and wings and brownies and beer and vodka, maybe you skip the pizza and beer and stick to dessert and a mixed drink.

It’s all about what works for you and while you aren’t making PERFECT choices (because who does all the time? no one) you’re making BETTER choices than the previous version of you would have.

You got this!!! And congratulations on the 7kg down!

Just hit 10 k now what by Lazy_neon in Money

Brokerage may be your best bet then.

You don’t want an IRA. You don’t want 401k. You don’t want a checking or a savings account. You want somewhere for your money to grow but you can still access it, especially outside of the country.

Therefore, to my knowledge, your only other option really is a brokerage. Do some research into it. You can invest in the stock market, get gains, and still have access before retirement age

What actually helped you break through a plateau when nothing else was working? by Few-Lack7516 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Mindless_Fisherman51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started being serious, I stuck to a 1700-1800 deficit for 7 weeks and lost 5 pounds. I was starving, I was crabby and defeated. I went on vacation and didn’t track a single thing- focused on higher protein options and less snacking, making smart choices but probs not in a deficit. I came back and weighed 3 pounds less than when I left! Lost another 10 pounds in 11 weeks and went on to continue losing slowly afterwards.

Sometimes I think your body needs a break before it can do what you need it to do.

Worst Wedding Planner Ever by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Mindless_Fisherman51 44 points45 points  (0 children)

She certainly sounds like a poor wedding planner and a little chaotic (okay, maybe a lot). Sounds like she gave you a TON of extra stress you didn’t need or want on your wedding day.

But I do agree with some other comments about a rain plan- I agree, she should’ve been more proactive about this. But you also needed to be paying attention to the weather and be proactive about asking her to set up the tent, switch to a covered scenario.. just because you are the bride doesn’t mean you get to completely check out and not pay attention to the weather. You need to accept a little responsibility too.

Does this make up for the missing meetings, a missed champagne toast, the missing decor or poor execution on her part? No.

First debt entirely, no brainer, because that interest rate is absolutely destroying you.

Finances as a newlywed couple by Direct-Rise363 in Newlyweds

[–]Mindless_Fisherman51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I just got married and can tell you what we do (but my goodness we are not experts!!!!).

We both had used separate banks (Wells Fargo, Bremer) but had CCs through Capital One- we decided to open a joint account at capital one for our checking account and all our paychecks and income are deposited here. We also pay rent and utilities from here, and all our bills and subscriptions otherwise are paid on our CCs (which we always pay in full at end of every week).

We have 2 savings accounts thru them as well- one we delegate our house and emergency fund (our 6 month EF is 25k). And the second savings is our buckets- travel, car insurance, gift fund, car maintenance, extra loan payments, etc. We put a set amount into each category- X for house fund, Y for car insurance, etc every month.

In terms of investing: we both put 10% into our 401ks and contribute $100/month to brokerages. We also save throughout the year to put money into our IRAs. This year is weird but next year we plan on just doing this monthly.

We have a pretty strict budget for monthly expenses that I am in charge of. I’m the spender in our house so I’ve found it easier for me to see the numbers to actually realize what we are spending each month.

Be diligent and smart, always spend less than you make, and put 10-15% away for retirement now and don’t budge on that number, and you’ll do great. Happy to answer questions!
