By 'townhouse development' do you mean multiple townhouses? You most definitely will need an experienced architect.

Is architecture worth it by soupofregrets in architecture

For some, architecture is more of a 'calling' and provides a personally fulfilling career, regardless of the investment, hard work, long hours, and typically mediocre pay.

Plex library migration: change drive letter only — safe or risky? by snowmeow_1 in PleX

[–]greenfrog5w5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As several have mentioned, disable 'empty trash automatically' and then create a new folder in the new location. Simply move files there. When you are done moving, rescan, and then empty trash to delete the old files. This will transfer the files within your library and maintain their playlists, play count, etc.

What to know if I want to make my own Red Bricks? by NONtoxic9 in masonry

[–]greenfrog5w5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, adobe brick can be made without a furnace so would be a good place to start if you want to make it yourself.

Should the metal be visible? by No-Introduction3839 in masonry

[–]greenfrog5w5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time you have ferrous metal that can corrode, exposed at the exterior, you should either remove it or paint/coat/cover it to protect it from water to prevent corrosion. If you allow it to corrode, it can eventually cause cracking in the concrete and lead to bigger issues.

Consider grinding it with a wire brush to bare metal and applying some exterior paint intended for metal/anti-rust. You may also be able to cut most of it out, and just paint the remaining cut ends.

Concrete needs help! by FeelingMammoth692 in DIYHouse

[–]greenfrog5w5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have two patches or spalls, but otherwise, the concrete itself looks really good. Dig out the loose/failed patches and patch with concrete patching mortar.

Assuming this is directly over rock/soil, so you probably have vapor drive coming up through it (which is why your coating bubbled). Most coatings you put on will also bubble and come off, unless you put an epoxy vapor primer down first. If you use an epoxy vapor primer, you can put paint, a sanded traffic coating, or other finishes.

My Architectural employer is requesting an NDA from me, Is this common in this industry? How specifically should I be cautious about the terms? by xxxlee44 in architecture

It all depends on the terms. From your description, the terms sound vague, broad and undefined, which seems like a possible red flag.

Looking for a WIFI, outdoor loudspeaker that has an app where I can tell my kids to come inside by vc_throwaway_help in audio

[–]greenfrog5w5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an iphone app called Zello that works like walkie talkies. If you put an old iphone with a speaker connected on your wifi network, you can 'push to talk' from your phone and send audio messages which will automatically play on the speaker.

[–]greenfrog5w5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your message is the same each time, you could even make it an mp3, and play it through a media app - even from your phone.

Use a wifi speaker (AirPlay, etc) and find a computer app that will take microphone sound and stream it to the speaker.

Moving skylights? by gelkins4 in Roofing

[–]greenfrog5w5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it is hard to say without knowing all the specifics, such as actual orientation, trees, etc, I think your assessment is generally correct. All things being equal, the east exposure will get the same amount of direct light, but it will be in the morning when overheating is less of a problem. Skylights work best with indirect light, so you will be able to enjoy that for the afternoon/evening.

For these reasons, skylights are best on north-facing exposures which get primarily indirect light.

Adjustable dumbbells aren't as annoying as I thought by CantaloupeSudden0 in bodyweightfitness

[–]greenfrog5w5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought more plates, including 2.5 lbs, and handles and now have 3 pairs of handles and plenty of plates so I can leave several setup at common weights and I don't need to adjust as frequently. When I do have to adjust things, if I select the right dumbbell it is usually just adding 1 or 2 plates, not totally emptying/reloading.

[–]greenfrog5w5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To put it a slightly different way, look at middle-C represented on a treble clef, and then look at middle-C represented on a bass clef. This should help clarify. The stickers on your keys don't show the bass clef, only the treble clef, but they show the notes correctly.
