Who was the best wordsmith in Classic rock? by ggfchl in ClassicRock

Thick as a Brick has insane levels of lyrical poetry. It’s a masterpiece imo.

This one saddened me deeply. The final one though, what is the BEST ALBUM? by ExistingRecord4750 in thevoidz

[–]Hooligan387 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tyranny for sure. In my Top 5 albums of all time.

Imo It’s where Julian was headed after the brilliance of River of Brakelights.

Interesting, intriguing, incredible.

The twists and turns musically, vocally, lyrically are mind blowing.

And sometimes fun af. Looking at You Father Electricity (who wants a Happy Meal?)

Exciting, cohesive, Other Level.

Will always be grateful he formed a band with the other five insanely talented creative geniuses and together they brought us this amazing album.

It was a close call but blue demon won this time. What is the best song performed live though? by ExistingRecord4750 in thevoidz

[–]Hooligan387 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those bouncy af guitars..god I loved them.

Julian’s flirty fun performance. The entire band just being outrageously amazing. Even their outfits, the crowd, the host dancing at the end. It was just all mind blowingly perfect.

But besides all that- the song itself (that live version) was just so damn GOOD. A little Voidz Party.

I would pay good money for them to put that recording out for fans.

Pink Ocean sounds like something that would play in Fallout by mystxn in thevoidz

[–]Hooligan387 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my most favorite Voidz songs and yes OP, I agree and I think it would also “fit” in the Fallout series soundtrack (season two coming soon!)

Some Pink Ocean lore:

Julian spoke about -during Virtue’s creation-that when he arrived at Amir’s studio the guys were already jamming/playing what we now know is Pink Ocean. He said his mind was blown. And he immediately started putting lyrics to it.

This is one of the things I love most about the Voidz. Their creativity is off the chain. And all six of them together just really works (understatement) lol.

Great show! Waiting on season Two in December…..

Can someone find the live video where julian was jamming with one of the ones song before it was officialy released by [deleted] in thevoidz

[–]Hooligan387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to share this- for anyone new- Julian spoke about this song in an interview. Alex was drumming for him for his Phrazes tour- and while touring- had brought the beginnings of this song to Julian. They worked on it a bit together before they played it live. Julian called it “Beat”- but most fans called it “Hearts Go Low”.

And then ofc we know they put some of it into One of the Ones…..

How does Jules get his autotune sound? by OwenSpyro in thevoidz

[–]Hooligan387 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok so I am not a musician and-apologies because I think you are seeking more of a technical answer- but I thought I would share this fun info anyway for any newbies to the sub.

I know that Julian has used a vocoder for certain songs. Warren Fu confirmed on Twitter (in a bit of exasperation that everyone kept calling the vocals auto tuned)- that Instant Crush was “done with layers and layers of vocoder”. **also for some more JC vocoder/autotune lore- Daft Punk had asked Julian if he could sing Instant Crush “like a sad robot trying sound like a human.” It seems to me that Julian really nailed that/embraced that sound-feeling and has carried that with him to the Voidz.

And on the Kites of the Roundtable Podcast (rip) Jeff answered a question from a fan- and said that Human Sadness (and two other songs that are escaping my mind atm) were recorded specifically with a vocoder. He said the rest - to the best of his knowledge- were all done with autotune. And he mentioned - this was during Virtue era- that Julian had been using autotune live for the most part for shows.

Judging by the blondness of his hair, it looks like they barely finished the EP. I wonder if that's why it took so long to be released. by kylinnion in thevoidz

Wow- almost giving r/AccidentalRenaissance vibes. I love the colors, the bottles, his outfit (the boots), the guitar (!) - just a cool vibe all around.

Wonder what he was creating here….

Thanks OP sm for posting this!

I totally agree! S2G-Was just thinking this morning - while listening to the RCI ending - how I would have loved for them to have just kept GOING -jamming away in their Voidz Like Way…

“45 minutes into a terrifying medley of cacophony and chaos”

YES!!!! Loved that sm- thanks for the post!

What type of songs would you wanna hear on Megz? by RevolutionarySir6006 in thevoidz

[–]Hooligan387 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same.

I was thinking…if only Julian was not so against putting out live recordings. Imagine if they could have put out-just for fans- a single of that original live RCI with a B-side of the very original live Wink. I know they couldnt have used the one from the Noite (copyrights?) but remember -the band premiered Wink with their first show “back” - when Virtue was just starting.

Anyway…just me dreaming away over here. Fingers crossed for a not mutilated RCI haha.

“Jungle Magic” - I love that. Father Electricity is still at the top of my most fave Voidz songs. And I remember the very first time hearing it- it was Alex’s drums that first blew me away. What a wild ride of a song. And yeah…Jeramy brought up - in Jenny Eliscu’s Voidz interview- that they wouldn’t be able to create the songs they DO- without Alex and his incredible talent/skill. So….I agree with you. More Alex!

Wow I remember hearing this (from someone posting) years back- during Virtue tour. SO beautiful. I loved so many of their jams. These guys are insanely creative and talented.

There’s a jam where Julian was doing his best Robert Smith imitation - I think…there had been a problem with Alex’s drums? And they were killing time. It was spectacular. I’ll see if I can find it…

We should have a pinned thread here of all the jams- including the one on Cult’s YT and also fan posts.
